Visiting Julia and family today, so we can babysit. It's Julia's birthday and they are going for a rare evening out.

After collecting recipes from all sorts of sources ( magazines, supermarket leaflets etc) in the past few weeks I had quite a pile that needed sorting. Went through them this afternoon, whilst hubby was glued to the Cricket. Another little job out of the way.

Speaking of little jobs, you may recall my hubby put an Ikea cupboard together and built it into the laundry last weekend? It took six hours and numerous sticking plasters for all the injuries (!) but job well done, even if it meant wiping the whole laundry with a wet wipe to remove shed blood from surfaces.
Well....he patched a couple of holes where the iron caddy used to hang and thought he would pop in quickly between innings ( of Cricket) to paint the wall where repaired.
Can't believe it. Two more sticking plasters required! Plus I need to soak a towel he brushed against whilst bleeding.
( How the hell does he manage it?!)

I always tell people that if he ever goes missing, there will be enough forensic blood in our house, car and tin tent to charge me with murder!!

But was it a good paint Job?

Yes. Very acceptable.
The end results are always good, despite the bloodshed. ( but tell me how a man cuts himself with a paint brush).

Looked into a box today that I haven't looked into for quite a while. I found notes of height measurements that I took of my daughter as she was growing up from 6yrs to 15yrs , all on separate scraps of paper. Luckily I had kept them all in the same place. Sweet.

It's a Mum thing, lol :)

Preparing a beef stew for tonight and taking the decorations down. We had a good walk along the canal this morning from Salterforth to Foulridge then back across the fields on the other side as far as County Brook. Very busy on the towpath though...like a bicycle motorway!

Watching the world going back to work after the holiday and caring for my own small world. Looking forward to new readers! They are getting closer!

Stanley, I can only imagine that your 'small world' refers to your physical surroundings, mentally your world is far from being small.

... not tripping up over Tom and Lucy, as they're back at school.

Yesterday, finished off taking down shop front trees with our team of volunteers. A good turnout and we got the work done by 12 noon (and well before the bad weather arrived).

Just a couple of pubs, who sort their own out, and some high level trees (which need a cherry picker to take down) still to deal with.

Rather more than usual sets of lights not working. Not surprising with the wind and wet we've had.

Lights now carefully packed away in store and most of our 170 trees ready for shredding.

Well don't muddle the two jobs up, Wendy...or you could end up with blank documents.

Cathy.... You are quite right. I very seldom cross the Manorial Boundary these days but in my head I'm in Minnesota and Western Australia this morning! (Oh, and St Louis Missouri as well)
Main thing on my mind at the moment is the imminent arrival of proper readers. So nice to have something to look forward to and it will be a great improvement. I'm fed up with peering at things through El Cheapo readers and magnifying glasses!

Thanks all. I am still alcohol free!

We had to return from the lakes early has Bob has to be at the hospital at 8.00 am for day surgery on a small hernia, so no further alcoholic temptation from a holiday. We did however finish the mince pies, a box of chocolates, and various other Christmas yummies. Christmas is now officially over, two family birthdays over and the next due in three weeks. Soon be Spring!

Have a happy next year Sue. Tell Bob he can't do any housework for at least six months, no such thing as a 'small hernia'! Warn him that his trouser waistband won't close after the operation. Elastic waist trackie bottoms are the answer.

A belated happy birthday to you Sue. I didn't spend much time logged in yesterday so I missed it. Hope it was a lovely albeit sober celebration.

Thanks Stanley, will pass on the message! The dr said it was a small hernia, so did the consultant and it will be key hole surgery. Fingers crossed. I had a keyhole hysterectomy and discectomy on my back, it was a brilliant painless recovery. Here's hoping

Sue, they put three holes in, one got the spyglass, one for the instruments and the other for the gas they blow in to distend the stomach and give them room to move. It's the gas that gives you an extended waist line. Bit of a shock when I had mine done, I was like the Michelin man. You lose your dignity when you're stumbling out to the car park clutching the front of your trousers! Tell Bob that regardless of what they say it still takes at least six weeks for lesions to heal and he should avoid stretching and reaching for as long as possible. (No more ballet lessons for a while....)
Today I have to do a bit of digging into the Letcliffe Tank in response to a letter I have received from Sussex.
07:30. Spent 45 minutes dragging together all I have, including pics, on the Letcliffe Tank and it's ready to go in the post box. I hope he's pleased.....

I know Stanley I have the multiple scars to prove it I have had three key hole operations, all very successful and no major michelin episodes. However we do know the risks , he has been given an excellent leaflet by the hospital. The operation recovery time is what is holding up and determining our next trip to France. We were told at least six weeks. There were no visits this winter because of the wait for the op, and were not anticipating going till mid March. This is now all back on hold till we get another date.
