Good! I have always been a bit suspicious about farmed fish, in the early days the industry was using some very questionable methods from tri butile tin anti fouling on the cages to some quite aggressive food additives. I recognise that they have come a long way and it's perhaps time I overcame my prejudice and had a go at it.

Fish finger butty for dinner. Rest of the fish fingers with chips and peas for tea. I must be one of the Co-op's best customers for frozen peas! Butcher's day today....

I had two big Cumberland sausages.... I fried them both and used one on two small butties for dinner. I cut the other one up, fried some onions in olive oil, chopped the sausage up into it and added a bag of broth bits and some frozen peas and cooked very slowly on the stove. The result was a tasty sauce and I had half of it on a bowl of chips for tea.

Soul food. Braised steak, crisp roast and new potatoes, chopped carrot and swede in butter and pepper, cauliflower florets, Yorkshire Puddings and onion gravy, with good French red wine. My cup runneth over, not strictly true as I hate wasting good wine.

Liz, you've reminded me of Roger in Northfield. He would BBQ a steak in -20F just because he fancied a steak done over charcoal. I had the cold sausage casserole on butties for dinner to finish the bread off and for tea I had the remainder plus burger and Basmati rice.....

But no bush fires! We will have snow and a wind chill of -5C today.... I had some rice left yesterday so at dinnertime I stole some gravy from the two shear neck end I was slow cooking with onions and some carrots from a big pan of spuds and carrots. For tea I had a gentleman’s cheddar cheese and beetroot butty made with fresh bread. The neck end stew has been de-boned and will be better today when warmed up with spuds and carrots. No need to cook today and proper cold weather grub.

My two cleaners Sharon and Steve commented on the good smell when they came at dinnertime. I'd put the stew with the veg and brought the whole lot to a gentle simmer on the stove. (It's always better a day old!). I gave Sharon a bit of the meat and she went into ecstasies about it because she is a good cook. I had a bowl for dinner and a large bacon butty for tea... Plenty left for today.

It will be chicken, ham and leek pie tonight with sweetcorn, baked spuds with a bit of cheese. Just on with making the pies now. Will make four pies, two for tea and two to freeze.
Ham from a £2.40 Ham Shank, made pea and ham soup for last nights tea with curried dumplings, served two with a portion left for the freezer. Cheap grub, when you can cook.

Dead right Ian! Butcher Brown's ham shanks are about the best value in town.
Yesterday was dead easy, a small bowl of the two shear and veg for dinner and tea.... Today will be an eating up day..... Will have a look at what needs eating. Waste not want not!
