I love them Maz. They are always perfectly accurate, more than can be said for Metric. Try dividing one by three in Metric, all you get is an approximation . .3 recurring.

It's not that I don't understand.
If I am quilting, I work in imperial.
If I am dressmaking, I work in metric.
Two different systems. I get that. I've never tried to convert either...

Here's a tip - and this actually happened to me last weekend - never argue with an eighty something German lady who says that metric is best, and imperial is crazy, and that a metric pound (pfund) or 500g is the same as a British pound (weight).

My master stroke was to ask her how to share ten eggs between three. It all went rapidly downhill after that. . . . Soon forgotten and a nice lunch was had.

Last weekend I cleared and cleaned our apartment in Nanning because my tenant had died whilst in the UK. 2 of the 3 installed fans were broken presumably because Chris had taken them apart for cleaning and not realised the locking rings on the fan blades are left handed thread. And the cooker hood was broken, he'd taken that apart and resprayed it, and neither the lights nor fan worked. He was a qualified electrician by trade!

Love it Maz....... People have forgotten the time saving linkages in Imperial and Avoirdupois. Just one example, 20cwt in a ton and 20/- in a pound..... Plenty more if you look for them.
Tiz, try using Metric to divide a blank for a 27 tooth gear wheel....... I rest my case!
Over the years you get to recognise where L/H threads lurk..... Near side wagon wheel studs and grinder spindles spring to mind.

Remember when I was on free leccy on Sundays? That deal is long gone now and it means that I use my washer and do my cooking when it suits me and not be ruled by British Gas. This is far better and I am massaged by the fact that since I took my present deal, fixed price until 2020, prices have jumped twice. The tip is that these days, these fixed price deals are a goodie because the trajectory of energy costs is upwards. Then there is the question of what happens to them in March....... One thing is certain, they won't fall!

The most reliable way of assessing whether vacuuming is needed is when the drifts of dog hair make walking difficult..... Well, not quite but I have to admit it's beginning to annoy me. Only one thing to do, bite the bullet and attend to it! It has now moved to the top of my priority list.

Can't afford it Cathy, all my resources go into financing Bank of Dad these days...... Besides, it is enough having Jack under my feet without having to avoid a robot cleaner as well!
Tiz, I have considered that at the height of summer..... I know a Border Collie that used to have to be stripped every year in summer because of a skin infection and you've never seen such an object in your life!

I have a picture in my mind now of a robot vacuum cleaner chasing jack around the house!

Why do I see so many big men walking extremely small dogs these days, ones hardly bigger than a guinea pig. They both look funny on the ends of those stretchy leads!

How long is it until you decide the interior of a microwave needs a clean? I seem to have a habit of deciding it needs doing and then forgetting about it. I think I may be what we used to call a 'careless housewife'!

I wipe mine out every week, Stanley...unless I notice something has splattered a bit before then, and I attend to it immediately.
But that's just me. The kids think I am weird...but I have seen the inside of their microwaves and would classify them as disgusting.

Mine isn't disgusting, just unsightly. I shall do something about it!

I'm definitely a " careless housewife", but was inspired by this topic to give my microwave and fridge a good clean and polish this morning.
