The roof seems to have fallen in on the Lancashire Police Service. Perhaps they'll think twice next time the Prime Minister doesn't have his seat belt on in the back of his official car, and find a way to avoid a fixed penalty.

Very impressive twelve year old girl - in Oxford. Book her in for five years time. I love the "How dare you". :laugh5:

Neither can I now, but the fact that Stanley saw it is good - as it shows I still have my marbles .

The clip was from a protest on Saturday in Oxford, aginst proposals to split the City into 15 minute zones, with restrictions on travel outside your zone. In particular it was a speech by a twelve year old girl to the crowd. Unusally I took a copy of the video for my collection of interesting videos, but it has vanished from my computer. I also thought I'd bookmarked the site, but that also cannot be found.

Can't help but think that Winston Smith has been recalled to duty, and the clock put back to 1984.

Thankfully there is evidence of the protest on the web. I watch a lot of 'news' on TV and radio, but haven't seen any reference to it at all.

The Police response looks out of proportion to the threat here I'd say.

Oxford protest Feb 18 2023

PS - Call off the conspiracy theory - I've found the video. Not in the usual place for videos. Now shall I put it on Youtube? I'll have a meeting with the Board. The original (rather weird) site was CHD.org and the video isn't there now either. Perhaps it was they who took it down.

We are in serious 'Beiderbecke' territory now. The tapes video is in a safe place as Barbara Flynn said.

He's in a world of his own - bless him. :laugh5:

Let's forget for a while all the awful news of murders disappearances, earthquakes, and wars and note that this week is "Carnaval".

I can hardly believs that it's more than twenty years since we accidentally arrived in Puerto de la Cruz on the day of the main parade. Not sure where this fits in as I thought it was next Saturday and it's in the dark - anyway it captures the spirit of the occasion so Let's go

Viva Carnaval. . . . Pancakes tomorrow. :laugh5:

David, my advice.... forget doing anything with the video. Her mother looked seriously weird, did you note the puffed up lips and doting expression?

It looks like the poor sole floated downstream and got stuck in in reeds on the side of the river. Who would have thought that?

Despite sonar scans etc, I would have thought that any search of a river and banking would include any overhangs which are not uncommon in rivers and streams.
The ledges in the local becks were where the biggest trout hung out. You needed a mate to hold your legs so you could get your arms far enough under for "tickling". I knew that from being 8 or 9 years old why didn't the "experts"?

Advice taken.

I've parked it on Youtube, but privately. I think we will hear more of this antithesis of Greta Thunberg. I had thought there may be civil unrest on the way, but didn't imagine it in Oxford. The very vigorous response of the local police is interesting.

I wasn't going to show this early favourite candidate for the "least appropriate headline of the year". since it's in rather poor taste - but Kay Burley seems to have set the bar in that department, and would surely approve - so here goes. .

Not sure where this fits....
See THIS breaking news on the BBC reporting that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to vacate their British base of Frogmore Cottage, the couple's spokesperson has confirmed. It was earlier reported that the home, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, had been offered to the Duke of York. A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed the news. Buckingham Palace has not commented.
Could this be King Charles getting his retaliation in before the coronation.
What a family! (And giving it to Andrew.... )

General David Julian Richards, Baron Richards of Herstmonceux, GCB, CBE, DSO, DL is a retired senior British Army officer who was formerly the Chief of the Defence Staff, the professional head of the British Armed Forces.
He was speaking on WATO on R4 today and he spoke about the Afghans who had helped us, got very little help and found themselves in temporary accommodation here while waiting to be processed.
He says it makes him and many of the servicemen who were helped by the Afghans deeply ashamed and it is a disgrace. He was very clear about how this had come about, serial incompetence on the part of the authorities in the UK.

It strikes me that the Generals reaction to the treatment of the Afghans is matched by my feelings about the way we are mishandling the present flood of immigrants.
As world pressures mount due to turmoil, climate change and food shortages this flow will increase. What are we going to do, fire them all off into space?

One thing is certain, world population movement under stress from the environment is not going to decrease. This is one of the well understood reasons why we had to do something about climate warming but we missed the boat and now will pay the cost.

From Space Commands website:

"RAF Fylingdales

RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire, is the UK’s primary military space sensor. It provides a 24/7 missile warning and space surveillance capability for the UK and its allies.

RAF Fylingdales is a joint enterprise between the United States and the United Kingdom. It’s the only 360° radar within the US-led space surveillance network. Its radar can detect objects the size of a drink up to 3,000 miles into space".

Things I haven't posted about today. I think it's all true - but you never know. Some people tell porkies on the Interweb thingy.

SVB Bank has gone bust. It's been tradng for forty years! Can't find my photo of the queue outside Northern Rock.

Janet Yellen says she will not bail it out. She's the Janet Yellen who just got back from visiting Zelensky in Kiev.

The Treasury have told the major British banks to get a rescue plan in place by tomorrow morning. Most high tech firms wou't be able to pay wages this week. Oh dear- bad luck Cambridge. You need 4 A *'s just to work in the kitchens there, but the cleverest cohort in the country put all their money into just one bank. I'm surprised it wasn't in Bitcoin.

Good job there's no footie on the tele. They'll be busy tonight. I keep reading that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a lot stashed in that bank, but I think it's just wishful thinking. Not everyone likes them you know.

Zelensky tried to blag an invitation to the Oscars ceremony, but they told him not to bother.

China have ordered 100GW of coal fired power stations, and say they will not reach peak C02 until 2030. We will be carbon neutral by then and the climate crisis will be over, so that doesn't really matter. Hoorah.

Riots in Georgia forced the Government to drop some repressive legislation a few days ago. The former President who led the Rose revolution in 2003 (not a shot was fired) is in prison and close to death due to being poisoned.

The Chancellor used the words Indo - Pacific. I think we may hear them more in the coming years. We - with the help of our new best friends, the French are going to secure the region. The aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth will lead the job. I am assuming they will fix the propellor shaft and get some aircraft on board before it deploys.

The entire Royal family, plus James Hewitt and Lord Porchester, are sending DNA swabs to Findmypast and the results will be made public on return. They may have to alter the seating plan at the forthcoming Coronation though.
