Back to the gardening thus morning. It's heavy wet work but we are getting through it despite the constant drizzle. Out for Sunday lunch with Audrey at our favourite local restaurant. The gardening aches and pains are rather bad this morning!

I'm off to Leeds again to visit Mum, she seems to be settling down a bit now. I've got a grab handle to fit to her bed as she has had some difficulty getting herself out. In fact she is so frightened of being trapped in bed that she has spent the last two nights sleeping in her chair in the living room.

Up earlyish, visited the cashpoint, filled the car with fuel. Then sat down to a full english breakfast, after the washing up time for the papers. Then a nice relaxing day on the sofa with a couple of watches to tinker with. Love sundays, when I worked this would be the day I went fishing, now I am retired it can again be a day of rest.

Had a lovely afternoon with my daughter, had a lovely relaxed catch up chat about several subjects, nice to know she thinks and feels things the same way I do. Feel 'filled-up" and ready for the week to come. Also watched a bit of Gavvin (?) and Stacey, loved it.

Catching up on the training ride we missed at the weekend for the coast to coast bike ride. Just over 20 miles to do on this one, quite few hills to negotiate around the back of Gisburn and Paythorne. Got to get plenty in though, we have a very heavy 2nd day on the real run due to where we have had to book our accommodation. Our second leg of the three will be 80 miles, more or less starting with Greenhow Hill out of Grassington for Pateley and that day will end in Pocklington. Should make for a lot easier finish though on the Monday.

Ian, my brother told me the other day that he planned to take part in a 500 mile bike ride over 5 days going from Bridlington to Morecambe then up to Whitehaven and back on the other coast 2 coast route to Tyneside and back to Brid. He had been missing training due to our problems with Mum, so I'm not sure if he will still be going.
I had a lovely experience today in Colne Library. A couple from Scotland were in the library asking about the Marlfield Papers so I went over to help. When she learned that I was involved with the Earby History Society she asked me to say hello to Wendy Faulkner for her so I introduced myself and got a big hug! She had been a member on the old OGFB site and I had given her lots of help and was thrilled to find me in person...

Lovely.

Wow Wendy, rather him than me, the standard coast to coast over three days will be quite enough thank you very much! Nice coincidence with the library visitors as well, I wonder if she will rejoin the site? Did she mention her old user name by any chance?

Yes Ian, it was Agnes Gunn who was registered on the old site as Gunn.

I don't recognise the name Wendy, Stanley may do. I mentioned your brothers 500 mile bike ride on the FB Group page we have setup for discussing our efforts. One of our group has asked how old your brother is?

Steve is 65, and the friend he is doing the ride with is 67. They both belong to a cycling club in Beverley and go on regular weekly rides of 60 to 80 miles around the Wolds and the Dales.

Completely mad.

I remember the name but it's a long time ago. Lovely evidence of how the site leaves a footprint and people never forget who helped them. I'm really glad you got your hug Wendy, as well as treasures in heaven!

Usual Friday tasks and perhaps doing something about writing some more articles. I have been distracted of late and it's nagging at me!

Wisteria and cherry tree on Wednesday morning. There were no flowers on the cherry tree when we arrived.
Aching like the rest of me Stanley. I have found muscles I didn't know I had. I have had to lie horizontal for an hour most days to let my back recover, but it has to be done or it will be worse next time.

Sue your pictures look wonderful but they are upside down!
Mother visiting again today. I need to look at getting her a bed that will go low enough for her to get onto and raise her up so she can get out. At the moment she is so scared of getting "trapped" in bed that she has a panic attack if she so much as sits on the edge. She is sleeping in her chair still, which is going to cause severe circulation problems.

Sue, not sure that a gentle rub with scented oils would really help, I think it might lead to more aches and pains. Sorry Stanley.
A good hot shower and a couple of pain killers can work wonders.

Wendy, before you rush out and spend money, is your mother familiar with the technique of " log rolling " out of bed?
It is a technique taught to spinal patients ( generally taught and mastered before surgery). It is good for those with limited strength and mobility. Some clever folk reverse the process for getting in to bed too. I am not talking about the log rolling technique for bed bound patients where you roll them about for washing and changing sheets etc. this is a technique where they roll almost on their tummy on the edge of the bed, then drop their outer leg down to the floor. It then follows that they press up with both hands from the mattress, taking the weight on the foot on the floor, then putting the other leg down before removing both hands from the security of the mattress.
( it is not as confusing once you see a demo)
It's just that I can see you spending hundreds of pounds for something that is more a psyche problem than a physical one...and knowing how cranky your mother gets...she may decide that nothing is going to work!
There must be instructional videos etc on the net of learning the technique of log rolling.
( just a thought)

Thanks for the advice Maz. I think you are right about spending hundreds on something she wouldn't use anyway. I am beginning to think that with her limited eyesight and tendency to go straight to panic mode she wouldn't cope with any controls for raising & lowering. What she really needs is me stood there all the time

I'm sat here hoping she will doze off, but I can see that she is getting irritated that I'm not paying attention! Lunch time soon.

With my admin hat on I opened Sues post in the editor with a view to flipping the photo attachments. If I open each one in a picture editor they are both the right way up outside of the site! Very peculiar, I will investigate and see if it's something in the settings, can't see it really as none of the other attachments posted by other users are upside down?

Downloaded, the images are indeed upside down when in an external viewer but not if you just double click them to open in the same viewer?. I have flipped and posted them in the practice thread to test. It would be helpful to know the method of production and insertion of the images. I wonder if Sue is adding them straight from a smart phone or something. Anyway only messing about over lunch.
Today we will be mainly going to pick our Ruby up to stay for the week. Meeting Ruby and her Mum at Sandbach services. A handy halfway point on the M6 with easy turnarounds North and South of the service area. Ours is the A500, so a quick loop round and we will meet on the Northbound. AA say a bit of a delay due to roadworks a bit further up, both carriageways but the Southbound shown as delays, Northbound as roadworks (double joy)! Travelling time will miss any Saturday football traffic.
