I looked longingly at the very small but fresh Cauliflowers today, but at almost £3.50 EACH, couldn't bring myself to buy one. Bought a quarter of a Cabbage at 79p instead ( which is still expensive).
Spuds are a shocking price at present too. Broccoli isn't too bed, but for weeks now they have been selling it with more stem than head, and as it is sold by the weight, one pays for a heavy lump of stem.
So enjoy that Cauliflower...I have great Cauliflower envy at present.

Yes, I sympathise Maz, we are very lucky with our veg.....
Small ham butty for dinner with coleslaw and onions soaked in vinegar. Steak pudding and peas for tea....

Febby had to buy some new clothes this morning, because he has lost so much weight he looked like he was wearing someone else's!

Funny you should say that. A lot of my shirts are beginning to look very baggy.... Not complaining, it's a good thing. Give David my regards please.....

Yes I will.
He seemed a bit annoyed at having to buy new trousers because he didn't want to spend the money when he had a wardrobe full of clothes. ( I was left scratching my head about that because the thought of getting some new clothes is usually a pleasurable thing).
We carefully folded his favourite jumpers and put them in a big drawer " just in case" he ever needs them again, but agreed to donate them if he doesn't. ( I am not sure how long we are giving that, but it is entirely up to him).
New undies will have to come next I think, or the old ones will be falling down inside his new trousers!
I'm sure that once he gets used to his new clothes he will adjust to his new self.
( I really struggle with the angst...God!...if I lost a weight I would be smiling ear to ear, not holding a wake for me old clobber!)

Maz, I sympathise with David. I suspect that men of a certain age have a different view of clothing than women. I was brought up to believe that you wore clothes until they were worn out.... Some of the trousers I bought when I was heavier are like clown's trousers on me now but no way will I ditch them and buy new!
Yesterday I had a cheese and onion butty for dinner and pie and peas for tea.....

Half a black pudding, half a tin of beans and an egg for dinner. Same for tea but with chips to fill me up. Fruit for pudding of course....

I had a greengrocery and fruit shop yesterday as well as baking a loaf. The consequence was that I had a salad butty for dinner (beetroot, tomato, a boiled egg and lettuce) and half a cauliflower for tea. I only had half because they were enormous and 79p instead of 49p but still cheap.

Small salad butty for dinner and a larger one filled with fried smoked cod fillets and two eggs for tea.... I needed a bit of nourishment!

It sounds as though he is doing his duties well! Lie back and enjoy it Moh! It won't last forever.....
I had two small bacon, lettuce and tomato butties for dinner and the remaining half of my cauliflower for tea followed by another small BLT butty to finish the bacon and salad off. Butcher's day today....Fridge is nice and empty, I do like a clearance each week..... Apart from anything else it eliminates waste!

I treated myself to a piece of rump steak yesterday and cooked it slowly all morning on a bed of onions and garlic with the usual condiments. By dinnertime it was thoroughly cooked as was the steak pudding I had sat in it for the last hour so I had steak pudding and peas with some of the onion gravy for dinner, (A small bowl full). For tea I had a steak and onion gravy butty. Very tender and tasty......

We had white hake, chips, garden peas and tartare sauce last night. Tonight is slow cooked chicken and peppers.

Sick bay food is up to standard Moh.....
I had a meat pie and chips with onion gravy from the braised steak for dinner. For tea the last of the steak and gravy on a butty.... It got better and better. Slow cooking is definitely the way to go Maz!

I had some spinach ready for picking yesterday and Col requested a quiche....I only bake under extreme duress these days, but decided that I'd get the scales & rolling pin out from the back of the cupboard and have a go at making pastry. A couple of duck eggs, cheddar, an onion, a bit of left-over broccoli and some sad looking mushrooms were transformed with the spinach into a very tasty quiche. Half a tub of sour cream discovered at the back of the fridge (sorry Maz) helped to make it a bit richer.

So I'm not the only one with half an eye on Oz! Never mind, she keeps us up to scratch!
Two small salad butties for dinner and egg, fish fingers and chips for tea. Sounds a lot but a very small helping. I take no notice of advice on diet which says you should cut things out. Just eat less and take reasonable exercise but whatever you do keep the variety!
Moh, I love slow cooking.... Wnen you read a book Like Dorothy Hartley's on old cooking methods you realise that all cooking used to be slow and much better for it!

Febby requested Spicy Beef Noodles for evening meal, so I obliged by cooking it.
One of those things you can eat a satisfying bowl of without feeling over full afterward.

Maz. One of my favourite foods is Sesame Noodles which I used to be able to get in Szechuan Chinese restaurants in NY. I have tried to make them but never got them exactly right. If anyone has a proper recipe I'd love it....
Yesterday was salad butties for dinner and tea again. I was a bit peckish after tea and allowed myself a snack of sliced apples with St Augur cheese on them....

A straight vegetarian salad day yesterday. Cold boiled spuds and carrots were the base, plus tomato, beetroot, lettuce and chopped fresh chives and mint from the front garden. One bowl for dinner and one for tea. Summer grub (but it's butcher's day today.....).
