Wendy, please give Christine a big hug from me and tell her that I rank her with Doreen Crowther! Both good women who helped me so much.

Lovely canal trip thanks Wendy. It was also a bit of a historical one as my 3 times great grandfather was a canal labourer at Foulridge. He lived at Hill top.

With no appropriate fresh films out on DVD, cinema has been knocked on the head this weekend. Alison has 'suggested' that I make use of this unexpected free time to deal with several jobs about the house...

Watching the Canadian Grand Prix and writing another article for the BET. I wrote one yesterday as well. No day is wasted when 1000 words has been written!

Bedding washed and small tasks all done. No articles nagging me. Could be a heavy reading day!

Well what a start to our holiday in the lakes. Yesterday we got soaked on our 5 mike walk to Kentmere, today we had to go back home as the house was soaked due to a water leak in the loft. Thanks to our neighbour John for noticing and contacting Claire. Thanks to Claire and Adam for emptying the cupboards and stuff and dealing with the leak. Thank goodness we were not in France!.
After a round trip home and back we have done all we can for a few days. Fortunately all the bedding in one flooded cupboard soaked up a lot of the water . It looks like we will need a new bedroom carpet, at the least.

Ref my post 'Where have you been today' 29 May 2014, 12:07. Where our header tank overflowed into the loft because the overflow pipe hadn't been fitted properly. Just getting round to re-papering the ceiling. Then it will require painting. Plus mutterings of new carpet. Join the club. My sympathies.

Afflicted by a little cold at the moment so was very kind to myself yesterday and took myself back to bed. Woke up feeling a bit more energetic this morning, so decided to 'vinyl magic' the floor. Haven't used that stuff for years, but it was a regular event in the good old days ( haven't had vinyl for years so that explains it). Our temporary home has a great expanse of wood-floor-look-alike vinyl, which was looking pretty scuffed after the hob nail boots had tramped through on moving day.
First you wash said vinyl with a weak solution of ammonia. After that, I realised there was no turning back and I had to polish ( despite feeling exhausted from my cold).
Must say, it looks a treat. Oh...but I won't be doing THAT again in a hurry!
No wonder I was built like a stick insect in my youth with no hips or bum! Talk about a workout....

Understandable that it is your focus at the moment Stanley.

Wendy, I don't envy you that job. We cleaned out my in-law's house about 18 months ago when my mother-in-law went into care. Unfortunately she was there most of the time explaining how important all her 'treasures' were. We felt awful because most of her life treasures ended up at either the tip or the Op shop.

Exhausting physically and mentally; you just have to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in.

Do they have instructions Stanley? My friend's husband made a list before he died of who was to get his various collections of books, papers and other stuff.
I got stuck in to the clothes yesterday, three wardrobes full....Today's task will be to get all the bags filling my car to a charity shop before heading for the archive room and a relaxing History Society morning.

'Clearing out' my mum and dad's stuff has been (un)occupying Alison and me for the last 15 years. We live in the house I grew up in and where mum and dad lived when they died.

A lot of the house 'clearance' was deposited in a largish detached building in the garden; last year, Tom - in an attempt to put the building to use - cleared most of this out.

Other heirlooms and memorabilia were boxed up and stored in our attic; a search for a WW1 item last weekend led to these boxes, together with other stuff we've stored through 3 house moves and 15 years, being gone through; 25 boxes down the recycling centre later, we've (Alison really) still not found what we're looking for...

I suspect our children (or more likely our grandchildren) will be still dealing with such family stuff in decades to come.

I've done what I can Wendy, like appointing a literary executor to deal with the books and papers. I've paid him too.... Also I have some archives set up in the NWSA and the library at Lancaster. Janet is an engineer so she'll understand that side of it. But it will still be a big job! (They know my passwords as well and I have pared all my financials down to the bare minimum which should help) Oh, and they have an Advance Directive as well, registered with the doc etc. and it lays out what to do if I am comatose. How much can you do?
Today will be Ward 6 at Burnley General at 10:15.....

It's a dog haircut day today, simple number 5 all over but leave a bit on the tail. We went last week as well, but the appointment wasn't until today! Grrrr! We use an establishment on Wymondham Railway Station, it uses one of the old waiting rooms. There is a brilliant cafe on the station opened by Bill Pertwee. For the railway buffs amongst us, here is a link to the station's website. http://www.wymondham-station.com/index. ... istory&a=0
