Too easy really so just to make it interesting, what is it that is being retained by the masking tape?

No takers? I'm surprised. Clue, at the cutting edge of engineering!

Initially I thought it was a simple pair of shears and the bit under the tape was the pivot pin. But try as I may I can't get the thing assembled in my mind so that the blade parts are inline. It all becomes too wide to grip. Without some springs and pantograph arrangement I have no idea how it will work.

You've got it. Spare jaws for 36" Record bolt cutters. The masking tape is retaining the new hardened roller that sits between the jaws when installed. Handy tool and used mainly for cracking rusted nuts to get them off when dismantling. Next for shaving?

Clue, not as difficult as it looks if you examine the pic carefully. Located on the outskirts of Burnley. Exact location shouldn't be too difficult...

Coal seam, Bank Hall?

Coal seam yes Ian but not Bank Hall. As far as I know they are still open. If you find it you should be able to tell me the name of the seam as well!

Deerplay?

No, all those drifts closed long ago. I'd better come clean before you get fed up. It's the Arley Seam, some of the best coal in England, and the drift is at Merrill's Farm, Cliviger. The Cliviger Coal Company still sell coal but I don't know whether the pit is still open.

Is it an old water works building, possibly the one in Church Clough, Colne?? Or an old bell tower----- fascinating place.

You were both near enough, it's the old beam engine house at the head of one of the Fox Clough shafts. Used to be a busy coal mining area!

Look a bit like the adjusters you get inside modern kitchen cabinets to level them up.

I'm with Pluggy, looks like they could be used on large appliances as well.

David is correct that they operate like a clamp but nothing to do with adjusters or large appliances.

Clamps for LED lighting rails? Haven't a clue actually but they look like electrical gear.

Another clue. Nothing industrial, for home use. Think Chinese homes and I have 18 of them between 2 homes!
