We had kangaroo burgers last night. Quite good and very lean, but whether they offered much over plain old beef burgers is debatable.
They can be had at Steve Bell's butchers on Walmsgate for the curious.

I've had them Pluggy, a curiosity and worth a try, bit like Ostrich meat but I think I'll pass....
Meat pie and peas for dinner ham and salad butty for tea and when I got the munchies later I had some oatcakes with coleslaw on them. I like varied tastes so I put a spot of HP sauce on the coleslaw.....

I'm looking ahead to winter so I want to eat the last of my Two Shear, empty the freezer, defrost and get a fresh sheep in it! So yesterday I cooked a bunch of chops with onions until the meat dropped off, added some peas and when they were soft, turned the heat off and immersed a big bunch of fresh mint in it and left it to soak up the flavour.
Dinner was a ham butty with salad. Tea was steak pudding with chips and some of the two shear peas... Lovely grub!

Two shear and peas on a very small butty for dinner, same with chips for tea.... I have a small amount of the two shear and peas left for butties in a bowl in the fridge and a half leg of the same on a bed of onions with olive oil, vinegar and Oxo on the stove on a low light starting it's journey towards being a high quality pot roast. A loaf in the machine as well.... Good start to the day!

I started the day yesterday by roasting the six two shear chops I had left from my last delivery. I shall defrost the freezer this morning and alert Stewart that I'm ready for another sheep! I had enough cauli and carrots left to make two helpings and so gave the bowls half of the chop gravy each and had them for dinner and tea. Healthy fresh grub..... just the job.

Dinner was taken care of by picking the meat off six small chops.... Something very satisfying about gnawing on bones! I got a cauli and some carrots and for tea had steamed cauliflower with three small kipper fillets....

Lots a cauli and Carrots left so for dinner I stole some of Jacks mince and gravy and had it on a small bowl of cauli and carrots. Same for tea but with a steak pudding. Then a nibble on oatcakes and white Stilton with Mango and Ginger. Highly addictive!

Dinner was a ham and tomato butty. The last of the cauli and carrots for tea with a meat pie. Some nuts for afters, fattening but all part of aiming for variety in my diet!

Grilled six sausages. Three very small butties, each with a sausage on, for dinner. Same for tea but with the addition of two fried eggs divided between them.

Steamed Cauliflower (still 49p) and carrots for dinner. I had less than half of a small loaf left from last Friday so I cut this into six thin slices and had fried bacon and tomato butties for tea. There's something about that combination......

Remainder of the cauli and carrots for dinner. For tea I had sausage and egg butties on three very small teacakes. Still a bit peckish so I had a treat, a fourth small brown teacake with St Augur..... (Naughty but nice!)

Slow cooked brisket, new potatoes, cauliflower cheese, pureed parsnip, yorkshire pudding & gravy, followed by hubby having rhubarb pie & custard. Last of the rhubarb for this year, the crop has been very good - especially as half of it was covered when we moved a shed a few years ago. Must be a very resilient plant.

I started the day yesterday by boiling a large ham hock from Stewart's. Though dry cured they are not very salty so I just washed it, put some vinegar and a dash of Tabasco in the water and two onions peeled and cut in half. When it was cooked I saved the stock, strained the onions out of it and fried them in the fatty frying pan. When they were just browning I poured a tin of chopped tomatoes in, reduced that a bit and then put some stock back in and a handful of Basmati rice and cooked it down until the rice was soft. Last thing I stirred in a good slug of home made Apfel Schnapps made in Rothenburg am der Taube. It made a lovely thick sauce. I had some on chips for dinner and used it as a relish on a ham butty for tea. Why is the meat from a hock always so sweet? Beats ordinary boiled ham by a country mile!

After my adventure with the exploding pea soup yesterday I rescued it put it in a normal pan, added the remaining stock from the ham hock and brought it quietly up to the boil, thickening it with some Basmati rice and adding a few interesting spices. It came to nicely and is good stuff! I had a straight ham and tomato butty for dinner and for tea I steamed a 49p cauliflower over a pan of carrots and had some of that for tea with pea soup for a sauce. Good healthy food with almost no fat and I know exactly what has gone into it. By the way, nobody would ever notice that I had splattered everything with thin pea soup yesterday. I must have made a good job of cleaning up!

Why is it that there is always pea soup in the pressure cooker when it explodes? Same thing happened to me many years ago when I was inexperienced with the cooker and I took the lid off too quickly; there was a knock at the door, which I didn't answer. Long story short my friend let herself in and we spent the next 'quite a while' cleaning up - she did the ceiling!! Then we had a drink!
I now have an electric one and it's fantastic.
