I'm with Bodger on this. Diamond points are usually used for baring oil ways and squaring out internal corners.

Bodge is right, actually it's a round bottom cutting edge. Also used for roughing out keyways. Try this one....

This seems to have died the death. It's a drift for knocking up gib headed keys used to fasten a wheel on a shaft.



A small gib headed key. The hook on the end enables a wedge to be driven in between the wheel and the key to draw the key out. Now, try this....

Well, it looks like a screwdriver bit...

It's for turning screws (in a way) but a bit more to it than that.

You give it a good whack with a hammer so that it engages and turns at the same time. Usually for unscrewing very tight cross head type bolts.

Is it an impact driver for the stubborn ones?

I'll sneak one in while Stanley is thinking up another bit of kit.
The big stones at the side of the road in Colne. What are they for? and what do you call them?

Both of you right of course, an impact driver.
I know what the stones are for but didn't know there was a special name for them.

Holding up the retaining wall?

That's their purpose David, usually with a gutter or ditch at the base. But as to what they are called.....

Clue. They are on Carry Lane. A long steep hill that was used, among other things, for transporting coal and stone. Forget about cars , diesels , tarmac and wall supports .

Spot on David. They backed them up against the stones to give the horses a rest. They didn't have to pull against the brakes to get going. The local term is a "Trig". Next please.
