According to Private Eye there is going to be a major cull of news presenters in the new news structure which combines both World Service and BBC domestic news. Estimate that at least 14 could go....

Noticed a newish weather presenter on BBC TV weather. Elizabeth Lizzini married to Frank Gardner I think. A very pretty young lady probably to add some interest to a rather dull subject but do we really need more people when the graphics and a talk over would do? Or am I getting too old?

No, you're right Ken I think. They will be having background music on the weather forecast eventually.
You may not believe this but background music is used in quite inappropriate ways already.

Boring I know but I am still reviewing New Tricks.... There were a lot of episodes! It still has the power to hold my attention.

We have watched the first two of “Marriage”, it’s certainly a bit different and keeps the attention. Sean Bean and Nicola Walker play their parts brilliantly.

We are watching Marriage as well Gloria and I concur that it is certainly a bit different!

Email yesterday from ITV to tell me that the ITV Hub viewer on my Freesat box will be withdrawn by the end of September. Apparently they have a new version which has been developed to protect program copyright and it is no longer compatible with the device. I am advised to download the ITV Hub App to my mobile phone or tablet which will get round the problem. Same as I do with More4, start anything I want to watch on my phone then cast it to the TV. It will continue to work if embedded on later smart TV's.

I got the email from them on Monday. I suppose it will depend if you have registered with them through the viewer as I seem to remember this asks for your email address during registration. You will find out by the of September no doubt.

We watched 2 episodes of Marriage last night and really enjoyed it.
The night before we watched part 1 of India 1947 which is a colourised documentary about the partition (another British cock up)

Looking forward to 23rd of this month on Channel 5, Pyrenees with Michael Portillo. He is tracing his fathers escape route through the Pyrenees after the Spanish Civil War. It's a four part series.

I bumped into this Horror of Draculalast night on Talking Pictures TV, and to my amazement watched it all.

It required a total change of mindset, but then again so do all the 'dramas' we are fed all the time. I understood the plot, and the goody was easily distinguishable from the baddy who quite rightly got his terrible comeuppance at the end. It was free of boxes that had been ticked, and chock full of stereotypes.

Refreshingly different, and absolutely no one mention climate emergency throughout.

I found myself watching Charles Laughton and Marlene Dietrich in a B&W court drama a couple of days ago and had to watch until the end for the same reason, clear dialogue, understandable plot and a really good twist in the narrative at the end.

I've seen that film a couple of times. Did you catch the message at the end urging cinema customers not to divulge the twist at the end.

"No spoilers please".

Yes I did David and it rang a bell in my head. I have an idea I saw the original film in the cinema....

Anyone catch the Nina Simone from Montreux programme last night? I've enjoyed her music for a long time,

without knowing much about her. Didn't know she was also a concert standard pianist as well as a singer.

It would be easy to be flippant about her mental state, but in kindness I think 'complex' might best cover it.

I like her voice...... always have.

I was seeking the answer to something which has puzzled me for seventy years and eventually (and amazingly) found the answer - not directly from this site. It was in connection with a drama series which had been on the Radio - Childrens' Hour in the 1950's. I might inflict it on you all one day.

Meanwhile get stuck in to that archive. Too much to even begin to describe. I've listened to Al Read Dick Barton, and Churchill's speeches, (I think he did have a 'voice double' for some of them), and even Sir Stafford Cripps.
