Just out of interest what is the comparison between the other months since you put the knob back on the hot tap? March 9th 2020 it went back on so the 2021-22 comparison won't be a true reflection.
I need to have a look at the average temperatures for February, March and April. Was the early part of 2021 warmer than it has been in 2022?

With the European countries promising to cut back on Russian oil it may be time to have another look at producing oil from coal. The existing methods were too expensive and were environmentally damaging. Having said this China has recently opened the world's biggest conversion plant. oil from coal. A more immediate action would be to reduce speed limits to match the most efficient engine speeds.

Hopefully the majority would adhere to reduced speed limits, to be honest a lot can't adhere to current limits.

I'm not interested in that detail Kev, Just the fact the bill was higher with the knob on. I'll get another comparison shortly and will see if I have made any difference.

But the knob would have been on in February, March and April 2021 if you replaced it in March 2020...

You posted My gas consumption February to April 2021 was 2157kWh, this year it was 3355kWh. but the hot tap knob was on for both of those occasions (you refitted it in March 2020).

I was concerned you are without hot water, as you've said before Covid is still out there so proper hand washing is still a thing...

This morning we have Scottish Power warning of a £900 increase in an average family's energy bill in Autumn. (LINK) Look at THIS report from the Daily Record in Scotland warning that action needs to be taken now to avert a disaster in the autumn and what some describe as a 'horrifying prospect' for the winter.
Now ask yourself what the Tory government is proposing doing immediately after the puny measures already announced. The answer is nothing. They will take full advantage of the lull in energy consumption during the warmer weather and then perhaps start to react in late October to 'save Xmas'.
We have to accept the fact that Johnson and Sunak have abandoned the poor and that the UK is going to be one of the worst places in Europe to be skint this winter.

The 827.8KWh of gas I used last month (April) cost me £32, the same amount on the new tariff would have been over £85 (new tariff starts June 1st). Not sure how some families will be able to absorb an increase like that.

This year has been a bit colder than the past two years. Our gas bill for March is the highest we have ever paid at £117. We are currently on a fixed rate which started last September but included a 20% rise on the previous rate. This coming September will probably see another 45% increase. Not something to look forward to.
I may add that we don't consider ourselves extravagant when it comes to heating.

Is that for the quarter?
My gas for March was £44.
January, February and March were around £170 combined, the heating is on from 06:00 to 22:30 every day through the colder months.

I've seen the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) saying that sales of second-hand electric cars are increasing. It doesn't say what those drivers are buying as a replacement - do they go for a newer electric one or are they under-whelmed by the electric and return to a conventional IC car?

I'm being a bit of a coward at the moment. I'm ignoring the energy account until the end of the month when I send my gas meter reading in.

Talked to an acquaintance today who has a small restaurant who told me is fuel bill has just gone up by over £400 a week bringing the total to over £800 per WEEK. He like others in this business also has to contend with rising food prices and labour cost. How can the small business man survive under these conditions?

Ken. I think the short answer is they can't without raising prices to the customer and many of them will not be able to afford to pay. I keep saying it, I am expecting price inflation and an effect on my standard of living greater than I have ever seen in my life. As Al Johnson sang.... "you ain't seen nothing yet!"

Just had a call on mobile from John the BG gas engineer who is due to service my boiler today. He's in Barlick, (already had a notification on my phone) but not for long, he has been called to a gas emergency in Shipley so has to respond. He was calling to say that my 10am - 2pm appointment will now be after 3pm. He asked if that was still OK didn't want us to stop in unnecessarily. No problem to me.

Ian, Is it a service or a safety check? BG conned me with their 'services' for 25 years.....
