I reckon you've got it there, Ian. I'd even go so far as to say it came from Halfords

Correct Ian. The ribbed section is inserted into the bike frame. (With your recent cycling exploits, I thought you'd recognise it.)

I haven't an answer on this one; am hoping that someone else will know.

It's a curved recess in the wall on Manchester Road.

With reference to the plastic clip, not very good I've found, can't get enough purchase on the tensioning and they tend to slip somewhat. Modern bikes don't have the metal pips welded to the frame for a pump any more. Anyone would think that you didn't get punctures! I have a small pump on mine that clips into its own holder, trouble is you are hard pressed (sorry for the pun) to get 50psi in your tyres with one of them. I tend to take it to the garage and use the airline. Hand pump only to get you home if needed.

That recess. They almost always had a chamber in the bottom which collected seepage water for watering animals. I'm assuming it's in a breast wall on the bank and there is a lot of water seeping out of there in all but the driest weather. Remember the road surface has almost certainly been raised and it would be taller originally.

Thanks for the lowdown on the wall recess, Stanley.

Given your posts elsewhere on the site, I think I've a good idea what your latest object is. Do you use it for the wind?

Quite common of course amongst the lady 1940's re-enactors, Sally included when we go dancing or get properly poshed up.

Looks a bit on the 'meaty' side for a suspender belt clip, but I could be wrong.

Suspender belt is right. It was given to me by a lady for some reason and when I was at Lancaster I occasionally wore it as a lapel badge. It got some interesting reactions....
Next for shaving?
