Here is the current link Cathy:
Winter 2013
The search facility might have led you to one of the previous Winter threads. I know one of which was damaged in the last system crash leading to the cross linking anomaly over to Energy Matters.
It may be easier if you use Unread Posts or Active Topics to find current threads, both these options are links just above the General Members Area.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Cathy, Ian is right. When you get the Board Index page click on Active Topics. When you have submitted your post left click on the arrow in the top left hand corner and it will drop a menu, click on Active Topics again and it will take you back to where you were. Your post will still be up there but will not show on the list till you refresh it by clicking on the little circular arrow in the address bar. Sounds complicated but it isn't and you get all the live topics.

Yes i will now use General Members Area, but all these years I have always used general Misccellaneous Chat & Gossip and got all the latest replies, even with this latest site, its just weird.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
If you only look at the General Misc Chat and Gossip forum you may well miss a lot of the posts in different categories and sub forums. The Active Topics and Unread Posts links catches all.
If you have a three button mouse, (one with a wheel in the middle), you can just use the middle button when clicking on links or threads. This will open up each target in a new tab in your browser leaving your initial page untouched. You can just keep dipping in to that to make your selections.

Cathy, do as Panbiker says and use the `View Active Topics' link just below the date on the Board Index page - make it a bookmark in your browser. If you've only been using the `General Miscellaneous Chat & Gossip' topic then you've been missing the other topics....you've probably missed that topic at Christmas were Stanley was giving away free money!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Last Sunday I posted here about two cats in need of help, their owner having died. They are currently living in their own home at Rimington near Gisburn and being tended by family members based in Burnley, but who's home is in Rome. Italy. Work is going to start on the house in Rimington next week in preparation for it being put up for sale. My friend Rosalind whom I have worked with on cat rescue and welfare for some time, went to see them yesterday and their situation is not good, they are traumatised. Therefore we have decided that they will come here, and will be arriving later today, two more saved from an uncertain future, this does not mean that Izzy will be ignored or forgotten, we want him back and are prepared to do whatever it takes to make this happen. Many times we have said "that is enough now" but life isn't like that, is it.

Free money.... On second thoughts, I think it best, to stow it away in the old oak chest.
Michael Schumacher not out of the wood yet, he's had a second operation to reduce pressure on his brain. Question, if someone is in an induced coma, do they need to use a general anaesthetic?

Thanks guys, I am using Board Index and View Active Topics, as you say it brings everything onto one page. (I was hopping here, there and everywhere)

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Today I finally managed to put two pics into the correct "Barnoldswick Animals" section of the gallery, previously it flagged up only 10 allowed, please contact the administrator. Now when I try to add them to my topic, I copy all of the bits, and it does not work, I need help as I have much to do in this New Year in regard of animal welfare and the Centenary, this will involve putting pics into topics. Otherwise a Happy New Year to you all.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I've added the pics to your post with no problem Thomo, perhaps Ian will be able to see if there is anything preventing you from doing it.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Happy New Year Thomo, I've had a quick look at your problem as below.
Gallery permissions are separate to the main board permissions. Thomo is a member of the registered users group. All registered users have the same permissions set both on the board and in the Gallery.
Gallery permissions are split into two sections. One for the upload process and the other on the actual albums themselves. The upload process is currently set to allow 10 images per session to be uploaded at the same time. After each image is added a new box will be offered for subsequent uploads up to the session limit of 10.
Album permissions are all the same and are currently set to unlimited, so there are no restrictions on the number of images that can be added to each Gallery album.
Tizer had a similar problem but I fixed that by applying all the same permissions to everyone in the Gallery, it should be working for Thomo as well.
Tizer is in a different board group (Donors) but the permissions are the same as the Registered Users group. The Donor group is there to give the Orange Glow on the user name and access to the donor area of the site. Gallery permissions are the same.
Can you post the exact error message you are getting when trying to upload, and at what stage in the upload process you are at when it generates the error, it may give a bit better handle on where to look.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Just for the record, I haven't hit any problems with the Gallery.
Thank God I don't have to use rail travel. See this LINK for news of the latest annual rise. In line with inflation but higher than wage rises.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Thank You Ian. What happened was when I tried to copy the image URL into the box after opening "insert image" I couldn't get it to paste in, I will try a test shortly. Happy New Year to you as well Ian.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Thomo, if you haven't already tried this, give it a go, it will rule out one possible reason for you not being able to paste into the Insert Image box. Try doing the same again but before you paste the URL into the box try pasting it into your text editor. It could be that when you copy the URL it isn't going into the clipboard memory. I've had a problem like that in the past. Also try different ways of copying and pasting, i.e. with the keyboard Ctrl C and Ctrl V, then again with the top menu Edit/Copy and Edit/Paste. When I once had a problem I found the keyboard method wasn't working but the File menu did work. Also check that your cursor is showing properly in the Enter Link field. (Sorry if you've done all this and I'm teaching Granny to suck eggs!)

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
So not a permission issue at all, Tizers suggestions are worth a go, post if you still have problems although copy and paste will be down to the OS and machine rather than any of the site settings.Thomo wrote:Thank You Ian. Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I have just had a visit from an elderly lady who lives nearby. As a relative by descent of not just 1, but 3 of the Men who were lost whilst serving aboard HMHS Rohilla in October 1914, she has an interest in the book that I am writing, and so we have been in regular contact. Her Husband Bill was taken into care 6 months ago suffering from dementia, sadly he died at Christmas. Bill had served with the Fleet Air Arm on the Atlantic Convoys in WW2, I will be attending his funeral next Friday at Skipton. We did not have a good Christmas, but as always there is someone else for whom it has been far worse.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Probably this piece should be titled “What didn’t attract my attention today” or on any other day for that matter. Having a general interest in old buildings and in particular the stone carvings that goes into them I began to wonder how many, if any, of the buildings within Pendle that have been built in the last 20 years would I be happy to leave as a legacy for future generations. Possibly, about three, and only these because I would feel embarrassed to say one. The three would include two Mosques and the “Ace Centre” in Nelson. For the rest it would be a blessing if at the end of their design life they were demolished and something worthwhile put in their place.
No doubt readers of the OGFB will offer their own choices and point me at something I have missed.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
We used to have a topic on 'eyesores'. Post Office Corner and the fire station were high on the list!
What grabbed me was the almost panic announcement on the 6PM news about severe weather and flood warnings. I realise that many people have had a lousy time and are flooded and that for them this is bad news but it would be good if it was also pointed out that the whole of the country is not in danger! It seems to me that the further North the weather is, the less important it becomes. But than I'm probably an old cynic.

Release of Cabinet papers from 1984 show that Thatcher lied about the "hit list" of 70 pits for closure when she claimed there were no more than 20 earmarked. And we still think she was the greatest post war PM!!! Nolic

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
A quirk about the Ace Centre's date stone... council colleague Allan Buck was Mayor at the time. Allan's name is proudly inscribed on the stone, but spelt 'Alan'. At the time, Allan said they should correct it, but it never has been.plaques wrote:Probably this piece should be titled “What didn’t attract my attention today” or on any other day for that matter. A Barlick building slightly older than 20 years is Barnoldswick's Library. An aspect I particularly like is the 'engine house' window on the Fernlea frontage. (A detail I didn't much care for was the large round stainless steel sign with a red rose on it. But I did like the way the rose faded until it could well have been white...).
Another one outside 20 years (and not a building either!) is Barnoldswick's Town Square.
I can come up with quite a few younger than 20 years that I'm happy to leave as a legacy for future generations (though not necessarily for their architectural merit). These include the new pavilion at Victory Park (the old changing rooms were dreadful) and the sports hall and learner pool at West Craven Sports Centre.
Another aspect is conserving some of the previous generations' gems. The Majestic Building frontage on Albert Road would probably have been consumed by dry rot without the action to demolish the rear part (to build the library) and the heritage funding which went into making the front part of the building waterproof with a new roof etc. The New Ship would have been knocked down if the church had been given permission. Again, heritage funding has helped make it watertight and kept the rot at bay.
Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I agree with Stanley's comments about the weather warning, what is often viewed as severe down South, we consider to be regular up here. I am not so sure about the physical splendour of the Nelson Mosques, viewed from a distance and height they look alien and totally out of place.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I agree about the public buildings, we don't appear to have venerated things like The Foreign & Commonwealth building here, or inspirational buildings like the new library in Birmingham, even bridges like those on the Forth. Much of the costly architectural buildings in the area have been bulldozed in the name of progress and budget priorities I feel.
The problems with legacies, is sometimes people don't accept the necessity to change to adapt to new situations, and their long term survival is not ring fenced in any budget, nor their likely upkeep.
