Looks like a new HD capable box is required. Demand on ebay is high, and the choice is a bit confusing, One from Argos seems to be £69.

Might be an opportunity to have a full rethink on my viewing needs. My big lad says the screen is too small.

This region, both West Yorks and North West,will change in the week commencing 20th February, which means you will lose the local news at 6.30pm. From what I can understand all other BBC programmes will available in SD until early 2024.

Nice to know - I've done a bit of due diligence on Youtube and ebay and find myself no wiser. Beginning to think I'm the last person on earth to still watch what ever comes down the aerial lead .

Just watched Portillo on the train to Georgia and Azerbaijan. Remarkable. Some amazing people and buildings.
When I was working - I recall writing quite often "fixes to area twixt Black and Caspian Seas" and that was about as close as we got, and about much as I knew. Leaving aside that Gary Kasparov is from Baku of course. I know a lot more now.

I often watch Wilderness Cooking on Youtube which is from Azerbaijan. I like the grub he cooks and the way he does it.... I'd recommend it to any of you.

We watched "A Call to Spy" which covers the early activities of the SOE (French Section) in recruitment and training of operatives. The main story relates to Noor Inayat Khan and Virginia Hall and their recruitment by Vera Atkins and Maurice Buckmaster who were in charge of the department.

Noor was a Sufi Muslim of noble birth and was trained as the first female SOE radio operator to be deployed in France, her code name was "Madeline"

Virginia Hall was an American, trained as controller for the agents in the field. She had an accident when she was younger and lost her lower leg so had too wear a prosthetic. She organised the day to day running of the growing SOE network in Vichy France. Her codename was "Marie and she also used Diane" The Germans searching for her called her the "limping woman"

Noor essentially worked alone and while active all over France but was eventually betrayed. Captured, tortured and eventualy executed in Dachau Concentration Camp. She was posthumously awarded the George Cross the first Muslim ever to have received such an accolade.

Virginia had to escape via the Pyrenees into Spain when her Vichy network was compromised and after temporary arrest in Spain eventually back to the UK. She was awarded an MBE. She retrained as a radio operator and was redeployed back into France. She survived the war and was given a DSC and was also awarded the Croix de Guerre. After the war she trained as the first female CIA operative.

The film is highly fictionalised but does cover the basic facts of their exploits.

And now you know why I don't watch TV. A single viewing like that would give me nightmares for months. Those soldiers who suffer flashbacks have my total sympathy and support.

Happy Valley ending was excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'A Matter of Life and Death' last night. My favourite film of all time.....

Watched The Irregulars on Netflix. It's aimed at the 'yoof' viewer with a bit of teenage angst but it's quite watchable. A bit of the supernatural set in the Victorian era.

Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars on Quest (Freesat 167) did some restoration on a Lancia Fulvia.

We watched "The Irishman" last night on Netflix. Fact based tale of Italian Mafia, Teamster Union boss and the Irishman hitman played by Robert de Nero, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel in the other primary roles. Over a 3 hour watch but put over well.

The maintenance of pylons was a bit of a challenge - fair play to hm for climbing - I was scared stiff just watching it.

It was fascinating to get a look inside the workings of Drax as well. We couldn't quite get to grips with the explanation of why burning wood pellets in mind blowing quantities from the USA and Canada is better for the environment than burning coal.

That would be because it isn't.

Subsidising Drax on the grounds it is carbon efficient is a disgrace. David is right, that's why you can't understand it.

Me neither, wonder why they are using RR' SMRs to 'boil the kettle'? Not just at Drax but any other old coal fired station.
