The two storms in a day ish are a little less usual in the south. The low pressure is forced south by the jet stream, but it is worth a further look.

In London the warm front passed with a bit of rain and some wind, leaving temps in the sun at about 11degC, now expected lunchtimish is the cold front , to bring more rain with the wind blowing away , and a temp drop to 5 to 7decC. Again, aside from a wind to blow anything not anchored down it should be bright, but chill. Later comes a fold round of an occluded front (which is the one I never understood), common in the Scotish areas and north atlantic/north sea, but in the depression low is a bit less common in the way it follows over the larger land mass that is southern england. It appears to form the second red warning area on Kev's graphic, so its actually from the same storm. After this passes come saturday morning, things should be wet a bit and a bit windy with reasonable low warmth of temperature. Should be calmer and warmer the second half of next week down south.

P&O Iona, Gloria. We're not due to board until midday Saturday, I have a hotel (with two weeks parking) for tonight and a car to take us to the cruise terminal. I didn't want the unnecessary pressure of driving down on Saturday morning, the deal I got for the hotel, parking and a car between the hotel and the terminal was similar to just parking at the port.

Looks to be sheltering from the storm off Brittany at the moment - very wise.

It's due into Southampton at 06:45 Saturday morning and sailing out at 02:00 Sunday morning. We're due on board at 12:15 for a spot o' lunch. Currently blue skies with a few clouds dotted about and it's a bit breezy.
The worst affect Road was the M40 through Oxfordshire, it's closed in 3 locations northbound due to 2 curtain sided attics on their side and a large box van on its roof, drivers were out of the vehicles and walking about. Fortunately I was heading south so was just a passing spectator.

The storm arrived after all though the worst conditions were quite short lived. Our weather station recorded a gust of 82mph! It's calmed down a bit now but the sleet is turning to snow and starting to settle.

I've been waiting for the big tree to collapse, but it's survived. Musing about the name Eunice. Where did they get it from I wonder?
It's fifty years since I met anyone with that name, and I had trouble finding any reference in recent lists.

Still it's refreshing that it's a British name. Could have been a lot worse.

Seems to derive from the Greek 'Eu' = good, and 'Nike' who was the Greek goddess of trainers.

PS - just seen it suggested that it might be a subliminal message from the remain tendency that the Eu is nice

Wouldn't totally rule it out.

It hasn’t been too bad here, all our trees are still standing but there have been some down on Southport road. Plus a couple of very heavy showers.

Apart from my neighbour's fence I seem to have escaped damage. However, I'll do a binocular inspection of the roof just to make sure.
The wind peaked just after 15:00. At 20:00 it was breezy, mild and we had scattered cloud with stars visible. This morning it's the same with the moon popping in and out behind the clouds. The glass dropped to 970 but is back up on 999mb and rising.(just been out to the recycling bin and we are having a wintry shower.) The forecast is for showers, some wintry until mid afternoon and a yellow warning for ice. The mainly west wind is brisk, gusts to 35mph but by dawn is subsiding, variable and ends up in the west later tonight. We have a high of 3C a low of 2C and a -6C chill at the moment but that will decrease as the wind drops. The outlook is for warmer but unsettled and wet weather.

Not Pennie weather but it's calm and sunny here in Southampton, boarding at lunchtime but sailing is currently delayed until 02:00 Sunday because of wind.

Kev, a few snotty showers in the town but not what you would call snow as yet.
Just looked at the Met Office forecast and it too is talking about sleet and snow by lunchtime.....

Snowing heavily here now.

We have snow now, but it’s not sticking, much preferred to rain.

We have a heavy fall in Barlick as well and it's sticking.

Yesterday afternoon was nasty, the snow stuck and by 20:00 the ground was a slushy mess and the wind was rising. During the night we had wind and rain and that's what we have now first thing, the snow has gone but it's raining hard and blowing. The glass is down on 994mb and falling. The forecast is for wind and heavy rain all day with yellow warnings for wind and rain. The WSW wind is constant, strong and gusts to over 50mph all day. The high will be 10C, the low 1C and the chill as much as -7C at times. A good day for being inside! The outlook is for similar weather until Thursday when it will get cold and we might see wintry weather again. I think it's February!

I worked out that the next storm name had to be female and begin with a G. Thought perhaps it might be Gloria. However I really wanted it to be Gladys in honour of Gladys Pugh in Hi de Hi. A bit fanciful though, and I didn't hold out much hope.

Yesterday the rain and wind never ceased and at 20:00 the wind was rising again. This was the Start of storm Gladys and she is reaching her peak now as I write, gusting to over 60mph and heavy rain. The glass is down on 986mb and the forecast is that Gladys will have passed through by midday and by dawn the rain will have stopped and we will have sunny intervals or better for the rest of the day. As the wind drops it will back into the NW. It is a gale at the moment but will decrease as the day wears on. It gives a high of 8C and a low of 4C with a -7C chill at the moment but this will improve as the wind drops. The outlook is for two more similar days to today but less wind and after that we get brighter and dryer but colder for the rest of the week.
