I got a small piece of braising steak from Cathy yesterday. I cooked it slowly on the stove on a bed of onions with the usual additions.... I had two small braised steak and gravy butties for dinner and the rest with chips and the last of the carrots and parsnips for tea. Steak and onions is always nice but this was superb!

Had the Toad in the hole last night, tonight is steak & kidney pie (the meat is slow cooking at the moment), mash & braised leeks.

Boiled a bunch of carrots and parsnips. Too many for steamer to fit on top so I left the cauli for later. Mashed them without adding anything. I had one small oven bottom with haslet on for dinner and for tea I had carrots and parsnips, steak pudding and chips. Lovely.....

Again, one small butty for dinner using the last of the haslet. I put a ham hock in cider with spices and cooked it. The gravy is in the fridge and the meat de-fatted and ready for use. It tastes wonderful.... I had the last of the cauli and mashed parsnips and carrots for tea with some diced hock ham in there. Fruit for pudding as usual.
I find that one small butty for dinner is enough. I don't feel deprived and it's having an effect on my weight.

I took a leaf out your recipe book today Moh. I had the gravy left over from boiling the ham hock so I made a veggie soup, mostly swede. As well as the usual spices and herbs I put a black pudding and a tin of sardines in it.... Wonderful what a difference it makes..... A good soup for a lousy gloomy day!

One small butty for dinner with ham hock and beetroot. A bowl of the veggie soup for tea. Superb! And it will be even better today. I'd forgotten how filling dumplings are.....

The veggie soup has got darker and darker! The black pudding effect. Tastes good but looks terrible! Had it X two for dinner and tea yesterday. The dumplings are great but definitely not slimming food!

There are worse habits than that Moh!
I had a bowl of stew and dumplings for dinner, tea was the last of the hock ham on two oven bottom cakes.

Cold Salad for us tonight. The Mercury has risen and it's about 40C outside, so appetites are low.
