Spending some time in A&E I think. I slipped on the wet flags outside the door last night and my wrist came off badly, it's not obviously broken but swollen and quite painful so its probably best to get it x-rayed.

Home again already, it was nice and quiet at Airedale this morning. I've got a compression fracture, nothing major, but I've got a cast on for a few weeks. This is going to be fun!

Hard luck Wendy, I've been there... Get the cast off as soon as possible and make it move. The 'constructive stress' helps the bones to heal and ensures you get full movement back as soon as possible. Residual arthritis can be as restricting as the original breaks.
More high stress machining for me but we are getting there....

I've been driven mad on a daily basis with birds determined to build nests right outside our back door. I am clearing them out with a step stool and broom twice a day. There are other places they can nest...I just can't abide the inevitable piles of bird poo at my back door, especially with the high Summer temperatures adding to the smell. I feel really mean, but we let the last family stay because we felt we had noticed them a little too late and I won't disturb eggs.
In frustration today, I wiped the area with Cloudy Ammonia after sweeping out the nest. ( I figured that if it seemed a cat had got up there and had a pee it may make them think twice about it being a safe place to raise a family).
It's a bit early to say, but there does seem to be less activity this morning.

Hubby also bought a large plastic Owl ( complete with rotating head, like something out of The Exorcist). This he placed upstairs on our back deck, hoping to deter Magpies from pooing on our chairs and railings.
He had to rescue poor plastic Owl this morning as three Magpies were trying to rip it's head off!
( I got quite a chuckle out of that and am standing by with camera).

Move the back door Maz! Alternatively look for a supplier of those long thin almost invisible spines mounted on a backing strip that they use to stop pigeons perching.
Looking for a finish on the carriage stops and going to the Diabetes Clinic at 14:30. Busy day!

The Cloudy Ammonia seems to have done the trick. No nest building at all today.

Sorry to hear about your accident Wendy.

Marilyn, I'm going to give the cloudy ammonia a go too. We have Indian Minor birds building a nest under the solar panels. We don't want them in the garden at all; nasty aggressive birds.

Good! Sooner it is off the better. Ignore any discomfort and work it hard Wendy, it won't break and the more you work it the stronger the repairs will grow. Ossification is a wonderful process!

I am now free of the plaster cast and feeling much improved. The doc was going to replace the cast for another 4 weeks but agreed to let me have a removable splint instead

Gloria, I managed my mucking out with one hand at the weekend! Only the sight of me trying to push a full barrow up the slope to the muck heap caused hubby to ask if I needed help. Mucking out, lifting bales of hay and bags of feed must all be considered very sensible now! To be honest, after that experience I decided that there was enough grass for them to stay outside a little longer than usual. Fastening buckles on rugs has proved a little tricky though.

Good lass Wendy! Persevere, your wrist will benefit and get back to normal far quicker. The docs always want to keep casts on, I sometimes wonder if they have ever had a broken bone. Think of something like a broken rib. You can't immobilise that and it heals up well with no problems. Indeed, the constant flexing as you breathe actually helps ossification. I've never had a cast on any of the bones I have broken and there have been many, including a fractured skull!
Today is the usual Friday tasks and I have to write some articles for the BET.
