The cough seems to have eased a bit today, it's a bunged up nose and sweating today. Hopefully it's run its course and is on its way out, I'm fed up with it now.

On an unrelated matter I phoned Barnoldswick Medical Centre this morning to make a Drs appointment . Is 2:30 this afternoon OK for you?
Reports of people waiting weeks for an appointment doesn't seem to happen to me, is it just me?

No, in the main I get to see my doc reasonably quickly. Unless I ring when it's his day off, (they are allowed) or he has gone on holiday, (also allowed) in which case I see someone else.

Hopefully Stanley may be able to help here, what's the parking situation at Airedale Hospital? I have to go and get my knee x-rayed on Monday and need to sort out whether I can actually park my car on site

Drive to Colne, park for free and catch the bus. They run every 30 mins to the hospital.

It's a long way round though
I'm just concerned there won't be any spaces as I can't go in until 10. I could go earlier and have some breakfast, I presume there's some sort of restaurant there...

Kev, the car parks are unmanned barrier controlled. Take token on entry, put in machine and pay before returning to car, token on exit.
I have only been once for X-Ray as an out-patient but I was told just to turn up. I was through and back out within 15 minutes. Took longer to walk to and from the car I reckon. I got away with minimum parking £2.00 at the time. I think minimum is £3.00 now. Never had a problem finding a space and usually on the one on the slope overlooking outpatients which is your quickest way in to X-Ray. There is a cafe at that entrance as well.

I don't understand your comment, why would I want to take a sandwich (I don't eat sandwiches anyway) if there is a restaurant there? The hospital is open 24/7 so it would be sensible to sit indoors until the x-ray department opens for walk-ins...

I never had a problem parking when Col was in and out of Airedale, even at afternoon visiting time there would be places somewhere. (I never caught the bus.
)
Colin always parks miles away and walks. When I cracked my wrist he dropped me off then came to collect me once I had been sorted. Instead of parking close by he had parked way down the road so I had to walk suffering from a very sore wrist.

We have much the same system at our local Public Hospital. Car Parking Fees (open air) for patients and visitors are
First 0-2 hrs Free then 2-3 hrs $2.50, after that it gradually increases up to 9-10 hrs $12.00.
Lost Ticket costs $13. per day.
Dept. of Veteran Affairs (Gold Card holders) need to pay initially but can get their parking fees fully reimbursed.

Ian was spot on with parking at Airedale. The only thing I would add is that if you are delivering someone there who doesn't walk well drop them off first as the car park is on a hillside and lots of steps down to the hospital.
Kev, I never have any bother at the doc's either.

The larger West car park is on the flat but it's a route march back to where you need to be, full length of the bottom corridor. I think the smaller one on the right just past A&E is now exclusively staff, could be wrong on that though.
Just had a quick look on the Airedale Trust plan and I was right about P2, staff only. P1 is definitely where you need to be and in through Out Patients. ED, AAU and OP, Imaging all at that end in Zone A.

A few days ago there was a report on the radio about parking charges at hospitals in the UK and it said Airedale was one of the most expensive. This BBC report says: `A stay of four to 24 hours at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust in West Yorkshire now costing £8, up from £3.50, with a £5 fee for two to four hours, up from £3.'

I have only just realised that the AAU where I was sucked in overnight when my scan went a bit sinister is right behind A&E. Makes sense really when you think about it. Also explains why it's so swish, must have been replaced at the same time they created the Starship Enterprise A&E which I have also had the pleasure of visiting.
Come to think about it, I came out of the side door to A&E when I was discharged.
You may already know this Kev but they have volunteer guides in the Outpatients area who can assist you in where you need to go.

Kev - when you've got your head round all this helpful information about parking, and you've sorted out you refreshment requirements - don't forget that you're actually going for an X ray.

I'll be fine as long as I remember to take the paperwork
