Perhaps you should announce you have packed your bags and booked a short holiday to somewhere exotic as a birthday treat to yourself! That should produce a few worried looks... :laugh5:

I did consider something similar but decided it would be cruel. I shall make sure I am scrubbed up later in the week and have a freshly ironed shirt.... Of course there is always the possibility that nothing at all will happen but another straw in the wind is that I have not had any Valentines or birthday cards yet.... Whatever happens, I will be nice to everyone.

You can pay that for a single ready made meal in the Cathedral of Choice Moh. No wonder most people think food is dear....
Sausage and tomato, mushy peas and sweet potato chips for dinner. Mushy peas and the last of the sausage for tea. I have a bowl of mushy peas left in the fridge, must be the cheapest nourishment possible.

A very basic meal tonight based on freezer/cupboard contents, and total lack of fresh veg. We have returned from caravanning and I'm feeling pretty flat with a cold/sore throat/sore neck glands. I just don't have the energy to pop to the shops today.
So it will be Pasties with Baked Beans and Air-fried Frozen Beer Battered Shoestring Chips.
Must send Febby out tomorrow if I am no better, or we will be forced to dine on our own toenail clippings, washed down with mineral water as a treat.

Thank you for that image Maz... it will be with me for quite a while!
Funny cooking day yesterday. Nothing obvious so I put half a leg of mutton in a CI pot in vintage cider with nothing else but salt and papper and banged it on the stove to cook slowly. Four hours later it was almost cooked but not ready so I had a butty for dinner, mushy peas and two fried eggs on home made bread. Don't laugh, it was nice.
Then I took the mutton out, de-fatted and de-boned it and put it in the fridge. I had thee large sweet potatoes handy and some carrots so I cut them up and put them in the gravy with no added water and put the pot back on the stove. Three hours later it had cooked down into a very thick soup so I cut the meat into bite sized chunks and put it and the last half bowl of mushy peas in it and back on the stove again. I adjusted the seasoning at the same time and also put two Oxo cubes in, one beef and the other chicken. Another two hours of arguing with itself and by 5PM I had a full pot of what turned out to be the most wonderful thick mutton soup. I had no idea I was going to end up with this but it was a lovely success. I had a bowl for tea. It will be even better today! It just shows that if you cook good ingredients well and have patience even old sheep can surprise you!

Based on previous posts I also bought a spiralizer. I found one recipe that sounds really nice but I'd be very happy for any advice. I thought it might be very handy in the caravan.

Liz, my gadget cuts thin strips rather than spirals so I can make pretend noodles & spaghetti from courgettes. I've just read that broccoli stalks are good for spiralizing so might give that a go too.
Our mealtimes have been completely transformed over the last month! Last night we had trout fillets fried in butter with a sauce made from capers cooked in the butter after the trout was done, served on a bed of wilted baby spinach with steamed broccoli & mange tout plus celeriac mash.
Col's blood sugars stable without any drugs...not quite low enough to be considered non-diabetic, but not constantly fluctuating between high & low.

Lovely news about Colin's blood sugar. How is he feeling in himself? Overall, does he feel better? Give him my best.
I had the mutton and sweetcorn hash/soup for dinner and tea yesterday. One helping left in a bowl in the fridge ready for dinner today. As I predicted, it tasted even better, wonderful how these dishes improve the longer you let the ingredients talk to each other!

I made my Tasmanian Salmon and Pasta dish tonight and made Fried Crumbed Cauliflower to accompany.
Very fiddly! But it was nice. ( The master approved)

I had the last of the hash/stew for dinner and a gentleman's butty of boiled ham on coleslaw with a fried egg on top to beef it up, the boiled ham was only the end of a joint. Must have had anaesthetic in it, I fell asleep in front of the TV for 90 minutes! Must be getting old......

Dinner was a steak pudding with peas and chipped sweet potato. Tea was a gentleman's butty, coleslaw, three sausage and two fried eggs in between two doorsteps of home made bread to finish the loaf off..... All lovely...

Made a big pot of Chicken and Veg Soup today ( enough for 4 meals for two of us). While I was hovering over that, I threw ingredients for Cheese and Chive Scones together...we have one each with our Soup. I cut them in half, sprinkle the cut surfaces with Cheese and pop them into a hot oven for 10 mins whilst reheating the soup. They go lovely and crunchy. Perfect with Soup. ( the rest get packaged in twos in the freezer...along with tubs of Soup...for future meals)

Two small butties for dinner, one was coleslaw and burger, the other was a fried egg. Tea was two small corned beef butties. I know! Complete absence of veggies but it's been a very upset week so far!

I made a big pan of pease pudding yesterday from dried marrowfat peas, so good and so cheap! Three bowls straight into the freezer.
I had a pease pudding and corned beef butty for dinner and two small pease pudding and sausage oven bottoms for tea....

Went off the rails yesterday. Two oven bottoms with pease pudding and fried egg for dinner followed by two apply pies and half a malt loaf. Shop bought pizzaa for tea with more apple pies and malt loaf. I think I must have had a sugar craving!
