The latest episode of `Word of Mouth' is on the topic of subtitles used on TV. Michael Rosen interviewed a lady who creates subtitles. When asked about mistakes she told him she had seen: `Parents are advised to make sure their children get the MMR vaccine to protect them against meatballs.'

On bowdlerising I'm just about 100 pages into Hemmingway's 'For whom the Bell Tolls' sentence after sentence with the text reading 'unprintable word'. A sign of the times in which it was written. I'm not one for gratuitous swearing but in the written word it becomes part of the theme one would expect.
For children are we to expect. Gravitationally challenged in place of 'fat'. Utter nonsense.
