Cloudy but warm forecast today. Yesterday was a perfect day. We caught the bus to Coniston , well actually we needed two buses. Had a coffee and bought sandwiches and walked the 7 mile cycle track back. We walked through the film set of the new series of PREY, then on to the river for our sandwich lunch. 5 miles later and we had a beer at THE THREE SHIRES INN, and an hour later it was an ice cream on Elterwater Green. Perfect, and perfect weather too.

Sounds lovely Sue.
History Society for me this morning, getting a small display ready for the Town Council's celebration of the Magna Carta on Sunday. Last night we took our WW1 exhibition boards to Skipton Town Hall for the launch of the updated "Craven's Part in the Great War" website.

Sue, sounds like my idea of a good walk! Wendy, I'm thinking about Dennis and his mate enjoying this good weather and the lack of flies.....

The boys have been enjoying the weather Stanley. There has been enough breeze to keep the midges at bay for the last couple of weeks. Sparky gets agitated as soon as the breeze drops in an evening, so I am constantly poised ready to bring them inside for a couple of hours. Sparky's stable is like a padded cell at the moment with straw bales around the walls and bits of carpet covering anything he might be able to rub himself to a bloody pulp against! Despite being in a small area with very little grass on it, Sparky is getting a bit plump whilst Dennis is looking a bit slim......problems, problems....

Here's one I took earlier:

They don't seem to have any pain..... Nice pic.....
When I was in Oz near Dubbo there was a magic hour at sunset when the flies went in and before the mossies came out. That's when we used to sit on the porch having a cool beer.....

Febby's daughter/son-in-law/ grandkids x 2 at ours today...most of which was spent at local beach front skate-park with young grandson...though we managed to get lunch in as well. A good day all round. I think they envy our lifestyle here by the beach.

Another day in the garden, battling with neglected beds. Also keeping an anxious eye on Colin, who is planning on replacing a drain which runs under the track. Alarmed at the cost of hiring a digger he has decided to get the old IH tractor and it's ancient back actor out to play. The tractor started up first try despite not having been run for at least two years, but the hydraulic system in the back actor was giving him grief for most of the afternoon yesterday. It's all hitched up and ready to go this morning but it all looks very scary! I may be called in to assist.....

I watched Col and his workhorse disappearing up the track nearly to the road and went back to my weeding, then came a phone call..."There are five wild ducklings stuck down the cattle grid, I don't know what to do! Bring the fishing net!"
By the time I had shut up the dogs, found the fishing net (used for getting weed out of the duck pond) and got up the track Col had managed to rescue four of the five, and the last one was quickly scooped up in the net. We have retreated for coffee to give the mother chance to gather them up.

Getting ready to go to work....engine purring beautifully. This is the scary back actor:

Weather looks good for "Mad Max" and his machinery, Wendy.
Your nervousness sounds like me every time my hubby gets in a handyman mood. ( speaking of which, we have a dodgy bathroom light which has refused to work for two days. Nothing wrong with the globe and still wouldn't work with a brand new one...but suddenly this evening decided it was working again. His Nibs says he will look at it tomorrow. Like you, I am hoping I don't get called to help - morbid fear of electricity - and if it was up to me I could go for years making do with the light from the passage.)

Col will surmount any difficulties.... I deplore the fact that he hasn't had it going for two years but like the fact it kicked its heels OK. Hope the ducks survived their adventure.....

Doing very little apart from the site and getting the gas man out of my life.... Very tiring day yesterday, Barlick to Masson than back to Stafford and then through horrible traffic back home. I did right to decline driving!

"Wendy, how did Col go on with his drain?"
Better than expected Stanley, he found that there was a good steel pipe in place which was blocked solid at both ends so he just had to clear it and dig out the ditches on both sides. I have finally persuaded him that we should get someone in to resurface the track, so in preparation the drain needed to be sorted and an ancient gatepost moved a couple of feet to allow more room for big farm equipment to get through. He managed to get that loosened without any damage, which can't have been easy as the back actor isn't a very accurate piece of equipment!

Wendy, good man!
Cathy, you're dead right. Slept three hours yesterday afternoon and was an hour later in bed this morning. My crystals are stable now! I always listen to my body, it has never lied yet.

I'm going outside to repair the electric fence that keeps my ponies contained. I was heading for bed last when I caught a glimpse through the window of the boys grazing happily where they shouldn't have been. Luckily, when approached in calm and nonchalant way with a pocketful of apple, they were easy to catch and bring in to the barn where they have been overnight. The fence had suffered catastrophic sheep damage, with five or six plastic poles snapped off and a 20m length of tape trailed across the field.
