Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I don't think you are going to get this one. It's the bronze bearing that sat in the old style door hinges. The wedge shape fitted in the bottom, fixed bracket and the swinging hinge rotated on the ball at the other end. Standard fitting until the design of cars changed after WW2. Used a lot longer on hand built wagon cabs like the AEC Mercury...
Try this one....

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Wendy, well done for spotting Fleetwood. And I apologise to everyone for having neglected to check back on your progress - I didn't realise so much time had gone by and I wasn't on OG so often last week. To be honest, once I'd posted the photo I thought it was going to be identified immediately, not by Wendy but by that lorry driver Stanley Graham. Perhaps he didn't `do' Fleetwood on his tramps, or maybe he'd say "I was a lorry driver, not a pilot!" My main memories of Fleetwood are the Isle of Man ferry, kiosks selling kippers (were there also smokeries on the front?), a sharply shelving pebble beach and the inevitable exciting trip on the ferry to the wonders of Knott End!

This object is a mystery to me (no, it's not the £1 coin...). Hope someone has the answer!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
It looks to me like the metal clip on a two part telescopic wooden clothes prop. One half went through the box section, the other under the hinged clip. The longer clip tended to jam on the wood when the prop was used the right way up but collapsed to half size easily when the long clip was lifted....

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Thinking again, I have an idea there was a grroove cut in the extending part for the clip to lodge in.....

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
It looks like some form of cutter although the rotor does not look sharp. Is it a tool for impressing a pattern on leather?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I can see that it's gong to elude you, I shall come clean. I had this item for may years before I found out what it was for. It's a very clever guide for winding springs or other wire coils on the lathe. The bronze leaf shape is part of the guide which can be rotated and locked for handling different thicknesses of wire. No shame in not getting it, a very rare object.

Try this one. Beautifully made again, very complicated leverage and a polished finish. It's very old and still works perfectly......

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Gloria, very close indeed but David has it right. Its for closing up solid copper rivets. It works perfectly and has lots of adjustments so you can get them dead right.
