Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It's still February and though we have done well so far it wouldn't be a surprise if it got more wintry.
If I remember right it was February when the snow and freezing cold hit us worst in Winter 1947. We don't want anything like that!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
This time last year we had some fairly nasty storms. I drove down to Southampton between 2 red weather warning areas, it was pretty horrendous.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday the wind dropped in the afternoon but we got light rain in exchange. At 20:00 we had a light breeze, it was damp but not actually raining and the sky was overcast. Same this morning except for the fact we have rain. The glass is up on 1010mb after having dropped back from about 1015mb yesterday. The forecast is for rain until about 05:00 and then dry for the rest of the day. The mainly WSW wind is moderate and gusts to almost 40mph giving us a high of 10C and a low of 5C tonight with a wind chill of -4C for much of the day. Still mild weather for February! The 6 day outlook is for similar mild weather for the time of year. We have a lot to be thankful for!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon ended up windy and damp but not actually raining. At 20:00 it was breezy, damp and overcast but still not raining. This morning there was more wind and there were clear patches allowing the stars to peep through. The glass is up on 1022mb and rising. The forecast is for a cloudy day but again, no actual rain. The constant WSW wind is brisk and gusts to over 35mph at times giving a high of 8C and a low of 7C tonight with a wind chill of -4C. The 6 day outlook is for very mixed weather but none of it wintry. February is still being kind to us.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday the rain kept off and by 20:00 the wind had dropped and we went into the night with an overcast sky. First thing this morning it was dry, we had a light breeze and broken cloud. It hasn't changed since. Th Glass is steady on 1016mb and the forecast is for light rain from 06:00 to 09:00 and then mist and cloud for the rest of the day. The constant WSW wind is brisk and gets close to 40mph giving a high of 9C, a low of 8C and a wind chill of -4C all day. The 6 day outlook is for similar weather, perhaps a touch cooler but no winter blast.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was, again, a day of dampness and cloud but not actual significant rain. At 20:00 we had a breeze and it was overcast, it was the same this morning and hasn't changed since. The glass is down slightly on 1015mb and falling slowly. The forecast is for a foggy start and then cloud all day but no rain. The WSW wind is moderate and steady giving a high of 9C a low of 5C tonight and at most a -3C wind chill. Another very kind winter's day! The 6 day outlook is for similar boring weather!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday managed to stay dry and at 20:00 we had a light breeze and an overcast sky. Still the same this morning but we are promised light rain in the next two hours and later on this afternoon. The glass is down on 1005mb and falling. The forecast is for a mixed day with even an odd sunny spell! The light SW wind swings into the NW giving a high of 7C and a low of 1C tonight with a wind chill of as much as -4C. Expect a sunny day tomorrow but then similar weather to today for the next 5 days.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon ended with continuous light rain. By 20:00 it had stopped raining the sky was clearing and we had a very light wind. It's the same this morning, dry and a clearing sky. The glass is up on 1017mb and tending to rise. The forecast is for a clear sunny day. The wind will be a light northerly for most of the day giving a high of 6C a low of 3C tonight with a wind chill of -3C for much of the day. The 6 day outlook is for similar temperatures and uniform cloudy weather but not much rain in the forecast.

Yesterday managed to stay dry but clouded and with a light breeze. It was like that at 20:00. First thing this morning we had the breeze but a clear sky and it was dry. It's still the same but overcast. The forecast is overcast at first but sunny spells later in the day. The glass is down, steady on 1011mb. The Northerly wind is moderate and gives us a high of 8C and a low tonight of 1C with a -3C wind chill for most of the day. Still not harsh winter but enough to keep us wrapped up! The six day outlook is for it to be dry, overcast and on average slightly cooler.

The glass is up on 1025mb and rising. The forecast is for an overcast but dry day. Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It does look nice Cathy, enjoy....
Yesterday was another boring grey overcast day. At 20:00 it was calm, light overcast and a hint of rain in the air but dry. This morning first thing it was still calm, light overcast and dry but evidence of a light shower in the night. It hasn't changed. The glass is up on 1031mb and still rising slowly. The forecast is the same as yesterday, dry but overcast all day. The constant NE wind is light giving us 7C for a high and 3C for a low tonight with as much as a -4C wind chill during today so wrap up warm again, it's a rerun of yesterday. No change in the 6 day outlook either, similar grey weather all week. March is not coming in like a lion!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was a rerun of the day before and today looks the same. At 20:00 it was calm, dry and overcast. It was the same first thing this morning and there has been no change since. The glass is up again on 1033mb and still rising slowly. The forecast is again, one word, 'overcast'. The constant NE wind gives us a high of 6C, a low of 4C tonight and a wind chill of -3C for most of the day. The 6 day outlook is for the same boring high pressure weather as far ahead as we can see. A very quiet start to March!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I've been for my walk and had a 15 minute sit on traffic duty. The wind is cold but there isn't a lot of it so very acceptable for February. I am cheered by the fact we are into March tomorrow. I always think that when we get into the third month we can allow ourselves thoughts of Spring!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
20th of the month this year so only three weeks to go. I noticed the weather guy at lunch time mentioned the possibility of snow! Surely not in meteorological Spring?
Never heard ow't as daft a starting seasons conveniently on the first of the month, it doesn't work like that.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Indeed - there is no apostrophe in 'owt'.
The official start of spring.
In reality there are no hard and fast criteria to determine the start of each season; the onset of spring, for instance, could be the date on which the first daffodil flowers or the first birds make their nests. The dates of these are not only extremely difficult to determine but also vary quite dramatically through the United Kingdom, let alone the rest of the world.
Because they are well-defined dates, the equinoxes and solstices are probably as good as any other criterion, although just as many people prefer the simple use of three calendar months for each season, with spring being March, April and May.
Take your pick - I'm for March 1st, but if any of the others are preferred, I'm quite relaxed about it. It won't change the weather.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I like it David....
Spring for me is when I can see the season changing, not some arbitrary date. A good sign round here is the Crocuses and Daffodils blossoming on the green. In farmer's terms, round here it's at the beginning of June, that's the time when you can leave the cattle out at night.
Yesterday was another boring high pressure overcast day and today looks like a rerun. At 20:00 it was overcast, calm and dry. It is the same this morning and the glass is steady on just under 1033mb. The forecast is for a dry overcast day. The constant NE wind is moderate and gives a high of 7C and a low of 3C tonight with a -4C wind chill at times this morning. The only change in the outlook is that it might be a bit colder at the beginning of next week.

Yesterday ended with more light rain. At 20:00 it was calm and still mizzling. This morning first thing we had light rain but that has stopped and it's no calm, dry and overcast. The glass is down on 1025mb and still tending to fall. The forecast is for an overcast but dry day. The easterly winds are light and give us a high of 6C a low of 2C tonight and a -3C wind chill for most of the day. The outlook continues to be similar but perhaps colder after the weekend.
