The stuffy sinuses have hung around for both of us, more of an annoyance than anything. Hope you feel better soon Gloria.

Not wishing to become the Casandra of Corona Virus, but I think we can safely say that that the current Omicron BA-2 variant is more transmittable and although leading to slightly more hospitalisations the overall death rate is reasonably steady. Having said that there appears to be a rise in reported side affects of the covid infection. Chris Whitty is saying that there is an 'High Chance' that there could be further mutations which could be far more dangerous. This of course may be only a small probability but acts as a warning shot that things could change course. The message is 'its not all over bar the coughing'.

I'm staying positive and going with the safety of vaccination and the antibody boost I've just had. I am in no doubt it was the BA2 variant I caught, it's just behind measles in 'infectiousness' (I just made that word up) so it's highly likely.

I’m still very phlegmy, but overall feeling better today, it seems to go up and down.

Colin didn't get his 4th jab this afternoon after all and reports some chaos at Colne Health Centre. He was there on time for his 1.05 appointment and was booked in OK and sat down to await his turn. It was then that the computers stopped working causing a hold up, people were being asked to provide evidence that it was 6 months since their last jab and as it was also a "walk in" centre folk weren't sitting down to wait in the correct order and disrupting the flow. Col excused himself when he had waited for 45 minutes and gave up.

I've heard 'wait to be called' - and 'go online and book' - and 'just turn up'

That doesn't indicate great organisation - especially with a substance which needs to be kept at a very low temperature, with very limited life after defrosting. Seems that waste will be caused, or there will be (as here) some disappointed 'walk ups'.

If people book on line and turn up with no proof of a 6 months interval then even with a fully operational computer system it could take time. They probably won't know their NHS number so off we go on a long winded interrogation. Another brownie point declaration without thinking it through.

My NHS number was a requirement for an online booking. If the 'system' was operational all previous vaccination detail would be available at the check in.

I had mine this morning at a local health centre, booked online a week ago (see my post for the web link above). Booked for 10.25, arrived about 10.10 and walked to the door to see if they'd let me in early. No problem there were two channels, one for walk-in vaccinations and another for booked. They waved me straight through the booked channel. Sat down while someone before me had their jab. Then my turn, they asked the usual name, date of birth, asked if I'd booked, said Yes and waved a piece of paper with my booking number. They didn't look at it. By the time the man at the desk said OK the nurse had already jabbed me! In and out in 5 minutes and felt nothing!

Margaret got the time wrong and turned up early but I said not to bother and we went. I went in the Health centre and apologised for being early and they said no problem. I was jabbed and on my way out in under 5 minutes. They said that there was no problem about me being a month early as long as I realised that was what had happened. I didn't understand what she meant and just accepted everything. Main thing is I am now jabbed and it's booked on the NHS system.
Sorry Colin couldn't have had just as easy a process yesterday. (I'll bet if you went down and explained what happened they'd just take him in and jab him.)

He's OK with it Stanley, and will book again no problem. He just happened to be there when there was an issue with the computers.

I was wondering if the system would have him down as a no show and cause a problem.
I am having a mild reaction to the jab and a sore arm so I'll take it easy.... It was Pfizer if that is relevant.

He was checked in on the system and advised to rebook Stanley, as were the people being turned away because they couldn't prove their 6 month gap.

2 hours in the shed on light duties has done me good, my arm feels better and I think the other side effects have retreated.....

Plaques, they'd be only too happy to take you now - my last jab was 26th October and I had the new one yesterday. This morning's Economist front page says they're telling people to come as long as it's more than three months since the last jab. Get your skates on! The changed advice is because the sudden big rise in infections has caused concern. Book online, its the easiest way.

No problem about five month interval at Colne on Friday.
No further side effects and my arm is recovering rapidly, not an issue.

I didn't have any side effects, no sore arm and I didn't even feel the needle although I did watch to make sure I really did get vaccinated! Before my turn there was a teenage girl with her parent. Every time the nurse tried to vaccinate her she pulled away at the last minute. In the end they left with her unvaccinated.

They should have put a paper bag over her head. :extrawink: :laugh5:

I don't have any problems with needles and I have had quite few. The modern ones for most normal usage are very fine but I have also had big ones that you can see the hole down the middle! I had a daily one in my stomach every morning when I was in hospital hardly felt a thing.
