I have researched a chap called Adam Stable, he was an alderman then a lord mayor of London just as the peasants revolt was kicking off. He was nicknamed "the mayor of the rabble" because he sided with the Londoners against John of Gaunt who wanted to raise money from the Londoners to wage war in France. Genealogical interest in the surname was what started the interest.

Morning Julie! I had the same problem when I was on the farm at Whatcote and we were feeding arable silage, we got to the stage where we didn't notice it but when I went for my army medical the doctor asked me how often I bathed.... It definitely clung to you!

Hello Julie, it might be worth reading Melvyn Bragg's novel "Now Is the Time" it is based on real people involved at the time. I'm waiting for the paperback!
Still pondering Stanley's reply....I've missed something somewhere!

Wendy, you've obviously never experienced the smell of arable silage made with a mixture of grass, peas and vetches then laced with diluted molasses as the stack is built. Wonderful stuff for the cattle but my God it had a powerful and distinctive odour!
I shall be going forward with the castings reinforced by John's praise in Shed Matters. Nice!

Tom and Marie got hitched OK and everyone had a smashing time at the afternoon and evening do afterwards down at Rolls. Long day, wedding at noon at St Josephs then an afternoon reception followed by a live band and disco in the ballroom. We wandered back up to the Croft at about 1am and only saw about four other people on the way, it seemed to be very mild for the walk home.

I shall be in the shed of course. Apart from that the most exciting thing today is the the fact that I have filled my recycling bin and the waste paper box! They are collecting today and I don't put them out until they are full. Takes about three months. (Sad isn't it.....)

Returning home tomorrow after a week in Brisbane.
Ever been to Brisbane? We walked a lot, and most of it seemed to be uphill. I am pooped, and shall sleep well for about a week when we get home. I have a strange rash on both legs and feet, but it doesn't itch ( so that is a relief).
I learnt one thing on this holiday - never let Febby hold the map! I am sure we have walked twice as far as necessary due to his map reading skills...I can still see him twisting and turning it at every intersection and the memory of that will live with me forever (stood in the beating sun waiting for him to figure it out). Every time I said "give it here" he stuffed it back in his pocket and declared the way forward. It reached a point where I finally stood still and refused to move until he handed it over today. We were going in the wrong direction! And his "short cuts" can't be trusted either. I could have done better with a blindfold....

I had a rash like that once many years ago while staying somewhere else, I put it down to a change of water. I'm sure the shower used rain water and my skin wasn't used to it. When I got home it cleared up
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Looking after our Finlay, Granny Pam who normally has him on a Monday so his mum can have some prep time for school has had to give back word. No bother he can come and hold Grandma and Granddads hands when they go for their flu jabs today.

Stewed Bramley apples.... bliss!!
Maz and Cath, you are probably right about the water. I once encountered some in Denmark (SW Oz) from a tank with a dead mouse in it. Not a pretty result.....
I shall be nursing the latest stew and enjoying myself doing useful things in the workshop to shiny bits of bronze.....

Wow I have sold a painting at the People's Art exhibition at Rochdale art gallery. A whole £120. I am really chuffed. Many thanks Rob Sharples for the fabulous complimentary framing.
