We met with good friends and went for our get together to Jesters in Barlick, 9 of us in all. I had sauted beef on chili and lemon rice with mange tout and carrots. A couple of pints and good banter for a few hours with friends, present and card exchange, it was a nice night.

Two roast ham butties on oven bottom for dinner. Pork pie and mushy peas for tea followed by the last two sausages on an oven bottom. Later I had a fried egg butty on the last oven bottom. I was eating for comfort I know but I have bigger cares at the moment.

Sounds good Moh! My wrap-up arrived. I had boiled carrots and sprouts earlier so dinner was steak pudding and veggies. Tea was strange under the influence of the wrap-up. A currant tea cake with grilled pork sausage as a filling, a small apple pie and a small custard. I quite enjoyed it.....

Dead simple Xmas dinner. Sausage and veggies with an apple for pudding and the same for tea. During the day I built an oxtail stew.

This was it at the start. Almost 24 hours later after 12 hours of slow cooking it has been de-boned, bulked up with frozen string beans and is re-heating as I write. By dinnertime it will raise dead men!

Proper cold weather grub Moh!
I started the day with two bowls of oxtail stew in the fridge. I got cauliflower (79p) and carrots, boiled the carrots and steamed the cauliflower on top and had half the cauliflower and half a bowl of stew X two for dinner and tea. I ODed on honey roast peanuts after tea......

Your oxtail looks a lot meatier than I see in Tesco, and it's not cheap there. I don't pay beef prices for bones. More economical to buy a small beef roasting joint and slice it for the slow casserole cooker.

You can't beat a good local butcher David. I shall be down there this morning.
Yesterday I split the remaining bowl of stew in two and bulked each of them with the boiled carrots. Had it for dinner and tea.....

One small pork pie with mushy peas for dinner. For tea I had two pork and apple burgers and a fried egg on top of half a tin of baked beans.
Remember a while ago I was considering spending money on a ceramic frying pan? I decided in the end to use the old cast iron pan I already owned. I made sure it was clean and properly tempered and it has been a complete success. No such thing as anything sticking to it!
Another change I am considering is ditching my bread-maker. I love my own home made bread but Wendy has convinced me (and my blood tests have proved the point) that anything more than the occasional slice of Borgen is not good for me. The same applies to potatoes. Strange how it took me so long to become aware of this. Thanks Wendy!

A friend brought us a brace of pheasants so we shall be having pheasant breast cooked with shallots, in white wine & cream with a sprinkling of nutmeg over, served with small roasties and green beans - plus a bottle of Merlot.

Very Downton Abbey Moh!
I had burgers, eggs and beans for dinner and a pork pie and mushy peas for tea.

We start the New Year as we mean to go on! Here are two nice pieces of pork slow cooked overnight in cider. They have come out like very good boiled ham. I shall freeze one piece and the other will be handy tomorrow. I have the gravy in the fridge so I can take the fat off it and then it will be useful stock for cooking veggies. Waste not want not!
