Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Two very useful web links there, Sue, thanks for posting them!
Stanley, if you're feeling depressed have a look at the two Cornish links that I've posted this morning in the Flatley drier thread. Some nice local history and anecdotes. Enjoy! Then follow it up with a search for Jewish jokes on the web!

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
I thought I had already posted this but I must have pressed cancel! Doh.
Cancer support meeting at the centre this afternoon. We have had to cancel though as I tested positive for Covid this morning!
I have had a mild head cold for a few days but woke with a bit of a sore throat this morning and I also have a hardly detectable headache. Something I have never had since my surgery. No temperature and I don't seem to be off my grub so that's a bonus. Might change of course. Feel a bit weary but I cant tell if the fatigue is Covid related or the legacy from my surgery which I live with all the time.
We always test before we host the support meetings. Sally is currently testing negative. We have contacted all the folk that came to the last meeting to avail them of the situation. I have done a notice for the door at the centre and our Facebook notification for the meeting will be updated.
Although Sally is negative it is not worth the risk of her running the session with folk that may be on treatment.
Onward and upward, calendar marked up for testing and when I may be free again.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
An update from this mornings positive result. I have progressed to all of the joints in my body aching and I am now running a temperature. Not through the roof by any means, just shy of 38 degrees but it is making me feel rough..
Had my tea and a pudding and cant detect any loss of taste or smell, nose is runny and I have fits of the involuntary cough.
I will watch a bit of TV then take to my bed, see what sleeping the clock round does.
Sally is going to test again tonight.

The cough is annoying, P had it longer than me but it goes eventually. I think I can confidently say just short of 4 weeks and we're both completely clear of any symptoms. Fortunately I work from home so no time off for me.

I wouldn’t say we were completely clear, still coughing a bit, but on the whole fine.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
There are lots more Tiz. In fact the web is saturated with similar research articles and papers if you put in the right search items. It is obvious that there is a lot of scientific monitoring of the vaccine and preparation going on should it need to be tweaked. I am sure you agree that there is also a lot of more simplistic reporting as well that does not do justice to the complex nature of the immune response , and gives the impression that the vaccine itself is designed against one simple component . Proteins being composed of 1000s of amino acids and thus coded for by a considerable amount of DNA/RNA can undergo a lot of changes before its overall nature will be unrecognised by the immune system . Such interesting and exciting stuff, sometimes I wish I was 50 years younger. I wish I knew and understood exactly the nature of the vaccine from a purely scientific point of view. However there is no doubt that getting covid should give the broadest immune response and frequent exposure there after should boost it.
I see the numbers are falling again in the classic endemic wave formation , as I expected.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Its funny Bob had no sore throat although he had a very hoarse voice, hardly coughed and certainly had no aches and pains. However the congestion was bad and as that cleared he has been left with a chesty sort of cough which flares up every now and again . He never lost his appetite or sense of smell or taste eating and drinking heartily on Christmas Day . Its funny how it affects different people in Different ways. I have been exposed several times now but never caught it

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Well, here are the results from the Croft jury.
I have uploaded last nights sleep session from my Fitbit dashboard.
I went to bed at about 9.30pm but laid awake for quite a bit before falling into some kind of erratic sleep pattern. All of the phases shown in the graph are perfectly normal but there is an awful lot of awake sessions an indication of a disturbed night. By 8am I didn't feel like I had been asleep at all.
The statistics on the session shows that I was awake 34 times during the night in an 8 hour session. I only reached accumulated deep sleep for 40 mins about the same as my rem sleep. The remainder made up of light sleep. I know I was up three times during the night for the toilet due to drinking copious amounts of water.
Going through the shower was a bit of a toil but I am now not aching as much although the fatigue is definitely Covid related. I can normally walk two or three miles before I get onset of my surgery related deficit. My head isn't bunged up as such more of a runny nose, the cough is intermittent but violent when it sets off. Smell and taste still OK. Still got the very mild headache so I am on paracetamol for that. Not tested yet but I think my temperature is down.
Sally is still testing negative this morning.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
We have both tested this morning, I am still a double line positive and Sally still showing negative.
Another disturbed night but the sleep statistics are interesting.
The graph doesn't show that I went to bed at 10pm but didn't get into any sleep rhythm until after midnight. I remember coughing a lot so I got up around 1.30am, came downstairs and took a couple of spoons of Covonia which is Menthol based cough suppressant. You can see that it did have some effect on my periods of light sleep. Overall though it was still a disturbed rhythm.
Statistics tell the full story, less time awake, (only awake 28 times), better and longer light sleep mostly in two consecutive sessions but worse rem and deep sleep. Overall only 6 hours 49 minutes which is 1.5 hours less than the night before. Having said that I was in bed for 1.5 hours before entering a proper rhythm.
Statistics aside, I am not blowing my nose as much and the cough is a little less frequent, still a bit stiff and I have sessions of feeling cold although I no longer have a temperature.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Strange how differently it affects people. I don't have a smart watch to track it but I am not aware of unsettled sleep, other than feeling tired. Once I started on the Sudafed nose spray my nose cleared and I had a 9 hour night, my bladder knew about it in the morning

Nurse Susan has delivered the medications. I shall give the Night Nurse a try tonight. The problems I had with it before were connected with my my sore throat and that's gone now.
