I recently ordered pelican at a restaurant for the first time. It was pretty good, but the bill was enormous!

This is from Patrick Kidd in last Saturday's Times Diary...
In tributes to the late Glenys Kinnock in the Welsh Senedd, Baroness Morgan of Ely spoke of the MEP being told by an air hostess that she was being flown by an all-female crew, including the captain. "That's marvellous," Kinnock said. Can I come into the cockpit to say hello?" She got a funny look. "Oh, Mrs Kinnock," the hostess answered. "We don't call it the cockpit anymore."
