Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was, as forecast, a day of intermittent light showers. At 20:00 it had settled into being 100% overcast and we had light drizzle. This morning it's the same. the glass is down on 997mb and the forecast is for significant rain all day. The constant WSW wind is moderate and gives us a high of 15C and a low of 13C tonight with up to -3C wind chill this afternoon. We go into August with a boring forecast of similar weather but perhaps less rain for the next six days.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I heard a lady who knows about these things on R4 this morning giving an explanation why August was a notable month this year in terms of moon phases. It is a month when we have two super moons and they are both 'Blue Moons'.
Super moons because the moon's orbit is closer to Earth than usual and Blue Moons because there are two of them in one month. 'Blue moon' is any moon when this happens and nothing to do with the colour.
This helps with a definition of the phrase "Once in a blue Moon'. Blue moon months come about once every three years. The next blue moon after the one on Aug. 31 will be in May 2026.
(BTW. It's a full moon tonight .)

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was as per the forecast, wet and windy. It rained almost continuously all day and we still had drizzle at 20:00. This morning it is still raining! The glass is down a touch on 993mb. The forecast is for an overcast day of light rain. The westerly winds will be moderate giving a high of 15C and a low of 12C with a -2C wind chill all day. The six day forecast is for similar weather, happen a shade warmer. No sign of any warm weather for at least ten days. Deep Joy!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday managed to stay dry.... just! There was always a hint of rain in the air. At 20:00 it was bright but 100% overcast. This morning it was raining hard first thing and it hasn't changed since. The glass has fallen to 986mb and the forecast is simple. heavy rain all day! The NE wind is light to moderate and gives us a high of 16C and a low of 11C with a -2C wind chill. The outlook is for slightly better weather but Saturday looks like a stinker, cold, wet and windy. This isn't summer!
Later at 05:30. The glass is falling like a stone, it is down at 983mb.

It was non stop light rain all day up here until about 7.30pm. There was torrential rain in the night and distant thunder around 3am.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was wall to wall rain and at 20:00 it was still raining. This morning it's calm and dry and we have an almost clear sky, just some thin high cloud and a Super Moon! The glass fell to 980mb yesterday but is now back up a touch at 995mb! The forecast is for bright overcast with sunny intervals and this evening there could be an occasional light shower. The constant NW wind is light to moderate and gives us a high of 18C and a low of 12C with a -2C wind chill this afternoon. Don't start clapping too soon though, on Saturday we are promised wall to wall rain, 13C during the day and 9C at night! This continues to be a very strange summer.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Holiday site was partly flooded yesterday. Site staff were deploying duckboards in the worst sections. It bated after tea and we went out for a while. Didn't stir out of the van before then. We played games with the kids all day.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was a normal summer day and it stuck to the forecast, we had light showers in the evening and at 20:00 it was raining lightly and overcast. This morning it was dry and clear at first but it's clouded over now. The glass has taken another leap upwards to 1011mb. The forecast is for a cloudy morning and perhaps a shower around 09:00 but a chance of a dry afternoon with sunny spells. The WNW wind is light and gives us a high of 17C and a low of 11C tonight with a -3C wind chill at times this afternoon. Tomorrow is going to be a cool day but not as much rain as was forecast earlier. The rest of the week warms up a bit.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Sunshine with predicted light showers up here today. Taking the opportunity to pack most of the car and top box. Tomorrow's forecast is possibly a repeat of Thursday with torrential rain. Just want to drive tomorrow rather than getting soaked packing before setting off. We have to vacate the van for 10am so no real rush doing it this way. No opportunity to park near the van at our pitch. Reasonably near but far enough to get soaked.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon we had considerable sunny spells but by 20:00 we had had a light shower and it was overcast. This morning it is calm and dry but according to the forecast we will shortly have rain and that will stay with us all day. We are being spared the first named storm of the year, Storm Antoni, Peter will get the benefit of that as it is going to strike mainly in the South West. The glass is down a touch on 1008mb and the forecast is for heavy rain and cloud all day. Our winds are light and swing all round the compass, we start in the South and end up in the North. The 'high' is 13C and the low 9C with a -2C wind chill this afternoon. However, today may be a change in the weather as the outlook is for it to warm quickly and we have 24C forecast for later next week. It could be the return of summer!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
We had torrential rain all night last night. This morning outside our caravan was flooded and the staff had been round dropping duck boards off so that you could get to the concrete paths. It baited just enough to do the last of the packing in the car before we set off back. Got gradually drier as we came further south west. Basically more or less fine this side of York.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was mainly dry but a cool dull day. At 20:00 we had very light rain. This morning it's calm, cool and dry with very high thin cloud, not enough to hide the moon. The glass is up a touch on a shade over 1011mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with heavy showers this afternoon. The mainly WNW wind is light and gives us a high of 16C and a low of 10C tonight with a -2C wind chill this afternoon. The outlook is for a gradual improvement, getting brighter and warmer. Summer may be returning!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday we escaped the heavy showers in the afternoon, all we got were some light spatters and by 20:00 it was dry and the sun was trying to break through the overcast. This morning it was calm, dry and we had broken cloud but with the moon and stars shining through. The only change is that the overcast is heavier now. The glass is up slightly on 1015mb and the forecast is for a day of bright overcast with sunny intervals and the chance of a light shower this afternoon. The constant Westerly wind is moderate and gives a high of 16C and a low of 12C tonight with perhaps a -3C wind chill this afternoon. The six day outlook is for brighter warmer weather, almost a return of summer but we are told that it will be relatively short-lived.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was a much better day than was forecast, longer periods of sunshine and no rain as far as I could see. At 20:00 it was calm clear and sunny. This morning it was calm and overcast, there were signs of a recent light spatter of rain, hardly qualified as a shower. I've stuck me head outside and it's calm and now we only have a thin misty overcast, the moon is clearly visible. The glass has fallen to 1011mb and the forecast is for a bright day with frequent sunny intervals. The constant WNW wind is light to moderate and gives us a high of 17C and a low of 11C with a wind chill that could get to -3 this afternoon. The six day outlook is for two much warmer days and then warm but unsettled weather from Friday onwards....
