This is a strange story, when found the baby was dehydrated (expected) and had bleeding on the brain, I'm presuming she dropped him into the drain. The mother has been allowed to give him a biblical name.
Did you see the story today of the poor woman who was hanging out her washing when the ground beneath her opened up and she fell into a 3metre sink-hole, how frightening!

Sink hole and landslide incidents are getting more common Cathy, probably due to the higher rainfall and more extreme weather we are getting.

In regard to Stanley's post about the Imperial War Museum, and in particular the cut backs, which could include the need to "sell off" the archives, it is noted that one of the proposers of this is someone who does not have this countries best interests at heart. Having been recently asked to assist with the updating of their archives, I see little point in going any further with this idea until clarification is absolute, Nor does this end with the IWM, the Duke of Wellingtons Museum are having similar problems, and are having to downsize their facilities at Halifax. I had a call from there last week, one of their team is at present updating their records using my book, he is also pointing out any small errata that he comes across, the most common being service numbers in the wrong order. These details originally came from the CWGC, and in consequence, we can appraise them of any anomalies. What I can do now whilst working with the Dukes, the IWM and CWGC, is to update the book. I have the original loose leaf proof copy, any pages that need alteration can be replaced, and at some future date, a small re run could be considered.

Those squiggles DO look like dance steps...just need some clever bunny to stencil some shoe prints ( perhaps in chalk?)
I've just turned the morning news on Liz, to catch an update on Phil. What a dreadful thing to have happened.

Got news from my friends in St Louis. Very depressing, The prosecutor in Ferguson who was implicated in the Grand Jury fiasco has a very bad reputation and too close links to the police. Interestingly half the demonstrators against the verdict at City Hall were white. Possibly the worst outcome of the violence is that in their rage, the demonstrators are destroying the small businesses and infrastructure on which their community relies.

Watching TV coverage of Ferguson. All the police are white........
The death of the poor lad hit on the back of the head by a cricket ball. A tragedy not only for him but the bowler as well.

On a lighter note... I heard an American on the radio talking about terrorists and he said we should be wary of ones coming from Torquay. Now that's strange I thought. He doesn't mention Paignton or Babbington, let alone Blackpool or Skegness, so what's so special about Torquay that it should breed terrorists? Are the pensioners who retired to Torquay beginning to get radicalised perhaps? It took a little while before I realised he was referring to terrorists from Turkey. I lost interest at that point.

Good that is Tiz, I do imagine that any terrorist would have to work hard to disappear in Torquay. So, all of the Policemen in Ferguson are "white", it does beg the question of why? and what would have happened if the youth had been shot by a black Policeman!

It has just caught my attention that today is
Lancashire Day
To be frank - I've never heard of it, but I expect all you (reluctant) Lancastrians are having a whale of a time.

Enjoy.

A Facebook post from Hutchinson's Pies:
"BLACK FRIDAY @ HUTCHINSON'S All pies will be sold at the normal selling price due to the fact that we are not American."
Perhaps inspired by this attitude, BBC North West Tonight are due to be filming in Barlick this afternoon for a 'Black Friday' piece on this evening's programme...

Well done the pie shop. Depressingly, a report in one of the papers yesterday noted that increasing numbers of folk here are celebrating ‘Thanksgiving’……….
A petition in Switzerland looking to stop the practice of the Swiss eating cats and dogs. Apparently, this is a quite widespread, though largely underground, practice particularly in the run-up to Christmas. It started during WW2, when the Swiss had little but potatoes.
A rather odd headline in the Daily Express the other day, which appeared to suggest that the number of ‘migrants’ here was underestimated massively because their children born here weren’t counted. I say odd, as I had always thought these children were British for the simple reason that they were errmmmm… born here. But I suppose if the Express has a problem with Prince Charles being the next monarch on account of his father being born on a kitchen table in Corfu, who am I to argue? Hilarious and troubling at the same time.
More good stuff from the UKIPs. Mr Farage being rather taken by the Express’s splash, forgetting his children, with their German mother, are a part of the ‘problem’. And the local Branch of the UKIPs in Thanet South (where Mr Farage intends to stand for election), getting all hot and bothered over the BBC’s skewing of an’ immigration-type’ poll by conducting it outside a mosque. It was outside Westminster Cathedral…………

Had a nice moment while doing my shopping today, I was at the check-out (in a world of my own) and the operator asked if I wanted some promotional animal cards, I said no thanks. The next thing I knew a little boy of about 5yrs old who was next in-line behind me with his Mum came to me with some animal cards in his hands and was saying 'Thankyou' to me. Turns out that the check-out operator had given the little boy 'my cards' as well as his own and he was
rapt.
Ah manners... love 'em.

Richard, you couldn't make it up. Thanks for that, lovely examples of how the facts are not allowed to hinder news reporting or political policies. We are doomed.....
Cathy, congratulations on the accurate use of a rare word, 'rapt'. Your English teacher would be proud to see it!
The peace of mind as I finished the last article I wrote yesterday, the paper has enough copy to take us up to the second week in January 2015. I can go in the shed with a clear conscience.....
I heard an interesting observation from a man talking about getting young people into farming. He said that the concept that the barrier was obtaining land was a fallacy and gave the example of someone going into the aerospace industry, as he rightly said, they don't have to buy a company to do it.... Sounds like a good argument to me....

I am sure that we are all aware of the speed at which modern technology advances, buy a new smart phone today, and by this time next week, it will be out of date! Most of this is based around the workings of electronics, and the apparent need for people to be constantly in touch, whatever they are supposed to be doing, this I have managed to avoid. There are many today who do not appear to be able to go shopping without their hand held gismo's, yesterday in Asda, "excuse me, and can I just get to that" was the order of the day! Having spent much time in the past 3 years working on projects such as the book and War Memorial and attendant events, which demanded high usage of my PC, I removed all the then surplus items to give a clear work space, my flight simulator was the first to go, with all of its bits pieces. More recently with ongoing projects on hold, I have been re decorating the entire house, today I am having a day off, and have been having a look at how flight simulation technology has advanced, before I forget the basics. This also includes looking at how aircraft in the real world have changed, and how I may have to alter my set up to cope with it. When I first had a go at FS, 25 years ago, everything was done using the keyboard to control an aircraft, then came the "joystick" or control column, followed by the "yoke" and throttle quadrants etc. Many light aircraft still have the yoke, and most Military aircraft have the control column. Having just had a look at more recent developments in respect of passenger aircraft in particular, ie. the new Airbus A350 WXB where carbon fibre has replaced much metal, I find that the yoke has been replaced by a keyboard, and the control column has made a come back mounted at the side of the pilots seats. This leads to a more comprehensive working arrangement for flight simulation, and I believe that my desktop may soon disappear under a range of electronic clutter and attendant wiring. One thing that I did find today whilst looking at the freeware aircraft "addons" was the Canadian Lancaster Bomber, Vera, on its UK tour, and its UK counterpart. I may yet be able to re-construct their appearance over Barlick!!!

The high level of slavery in the UK! (
REPORT). Then the appeal for donations to food banks in the local area. And then the report of an un-named shop in Church Street being raided and Illegal tobacco confiscated.
Meanwhile the flood of feel good adverts on TV trying to persuade me to spend for Xmas.
Which of the two worlds depicted is the truth?

Its a safe bet that the shop in question is the one that was rapidly vacated during an earlier raid on another shop directly across the street.

Last winter when we had the bad floods here in Somerset I mentioned how houses and businesses in the countryside were sacrificed to the floods in order to protect Taunton and Bridgwater where many new housing estates have been built on the flood plain. The flooding made such an impact that it's now very difficult to sell a house in the countryside even though most of those houses are elevated far above flood level. On the other hand, houses in Taunton and Bridgwater are selling as usual. There are people with good houses, safe for flooding, in our village who have had them on sale for six months and not had a single viewing. A neighbour has reduced their house by £25,000 twice and still haven't got an offer. So it wasn't only the flooded houses that were sacrificed, but all those anywhere near the flooded areas regardless of their elevated position.
Now for something different, have a look at these photos on the BBC site to see what the Chinese do to stop the roads cracking in winter (3r one down) and how they dismantle old aircraft carriers in India (7th one down).
