Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I've had my walk and a sit on the bench at the end of Albert Road. I was glad I put my A2 leather jacket on..... the wind was a bit nippy and I noted that a lot of leaves were being blown down. I think we are getting to that time of the year.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon was overcast and cool. At 20:00 it was dark enough to need the lights on in the house, what a change from the light nights. This morning it's calm overcast and dry. The glass is up slightly on a shade under 1015mb. The forecast is for a dry overcast day but heavy rain is expected to arrive later tonight. The constant East wind is moderate and gives us a high of 17C a low of 14C and a chill this afternoon of -2C. The outlook is for cooler weather and three or four days of significant rain.

We're cooling faster than you now Cathy. For the next three days we could be as low as 14C for a high.

I have just got back from my veggie trip to the Co-op. My forecast is heavy rain tomorrow so I thought I'd be better off shopping at the Co-op today while it is dry!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon was cool and overcast and at 20:00 the wind was getting up and there was a spatter of rain. This morning it's calm, cool and overcast with evidence of significant rain during the night. It's dry at the moment but the glass has dropped like a stone to 996mb. The forecast is for the rain to return after 09;00 and to persist all day. The SW wind is moderate to brisk, it could gust to 35mph this afternoon. It gives us a high of 15C and a low tonight of 9C with a wind chill this afternoon that could get to -4C. The outlook is for a very wet couple of days but then the temperature drops as it dries up. I think it's autumnal weather!
Later, at 05:30. The pressure is still falling and is down at 994mb which is lower than the pressure in the lows up in the North of Scotland which are giving gales in most sea areas.....

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It's getting a bit wild already, I've battened down the hatches. Patio furniture taken into the barn, apart from the table, which I couldn't manage in the wind, but I've laid it flat. Flower pots taken off the walls and put in a sheltered spot. Humph.
Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I've taken the canvas off the gazebo, it was getting blown around a bit.

Wots Manannan?
Yesterday dried up a little in the afternoon but by 20:00 the wind was rising and we had very light rain. Very windy and cold in the night. Heating cracked on at 21:30 for the first time this year. Bad news but welcome if you know what I mean.... This morning we have a light breeze and light rain but it's not as cold. The glass has edged up a touch to 996mb. The forecast is a yellow warning for rain all day and tomorrow accompanied today by strong winds. The constant SW winds will be strong gusting to over 45mph at times giving us a high of 16C and a low of 15C tonight with a wind chill of up to -5C. Tomorrow will be similar but from Thursday on it gets colder until the weekend.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
HSC Manannan
Very similar to the one I used to get to France under the Jolly Roger a couple of times on the motorbike. £27.00 for a motorbike, rider and pillion passenger.

Pirate guy ran a much simpler system. Book and pay on internet, (you put your vehicle and reg details on when you booked) take a copy of email sent, (never got asked). Guy boarding the vehicles had a list and waved you on. Pristine car decks with non slip coating. Proper motorbike bays with four strapping points for each bike. He only took cars, motorbikes, push bikes and foot passengers. He was nearly across the channel when the other bigger ferry's were loaded and clearing Dover harbour.
The big guys eventually put him out of business as he was attracting too much trade. So much for healthy competition.
I hope you get a good crossing Kev. The big Cats only use the tops of the waves when they light those four diesels up.

Last time I went to the IOM it was on the "Snaefell", 1970 I reckon, it was choppy then and we were the only ones not sick as we were supping Guinness and chomping meat pies.

The crossing forecast is rough or very rough moderating this afternoon. Good luck Kev!
Yesterday was as per the forecast, wet and windy. By 20:00 the wind had dropped a bit and it had stopped raining. First thing this morning it was breezy clear and dry but since then it has clouded over and started raining. The glass is down on 987mb and still falling. The forecast is the same as yesterday, a yellow weather warning for rain until 18:00. The constant SW wind gives a high of 16C and a low of 9C tonight with as much as a -5C wind chill this morning when the wind is at its peak. This is not summer, it looks to me like an equinoctial gale! The outlook is for cooler weather but mainly dry until weekend when it warms slightly.
07:00. Glass still falling. Now down to 984mb.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Autumn Equinox on Saturday.
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I see on my phone that hurricane Nigel currently on its way across the Atlantic, may well flip the jet stream back in our favour for a warmer spell next week. It will be Autumn then so will ultimately succumb to the next one following behind which if the prediction is correct will return us to more traditional Autumnal weather.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was a rainy day. At 20:00 it had been fair for a brief interlude but there was a spatter of rain out of an otherwise clear sky. The CH kicked in at midnight. This morning was calm but it was overcast and there was slight rain. The glass is up a touch on 986mb. The forecast is for sunny intervals all day but a possibility of intermittent showers from midday onwards. The SW wind is constant and moderate giving us a high of 14C and a low of 8C tonight with a -2C wind chill this afternoon. Tomorrow and Saturday will be cooler than today and Sunday will be very wet. After that it settles down a bit to slightly warmer weather.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was a much better day and it 20:00 it was calm clear and dry. This morning first thing it was the same but since then the wind has risen slightly and it has started raining. The Glass is up on 991mb. The forecast is for a day of sunny intervals and intermittent showers. The westerly winds will be moderate and give a high of 14C and a low of 6C tonight with a -2C wind chill this afternoon. The outlook is for similar weather but drier and perhaps warming slightly over the weekend.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday certainly lived up to expectations on the intermittent shower front. It never rained hard but there was always rain in the air. At 20:00 it was calm and cool and was the same this morning. Despite Ian saying it was summer the heating kicked in late last night and is still on. It's still calm and dry. The glass has jumped up to 1005mb and the forecast is for a dry day with sunny spells. The constant WSW wind will be light and gives us a high of 14C with a low of 11C tonight with a maximum chill of -2C at times. The six day outlook is for similar weather if slightly warmer but no surprises!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was relatively dry but I can't say it lived up to its promise on sunny spells, it was overcast most of the time. At 20:00 it was breezy and overcast but dry. Going dark of course. First thing this morning it was windy, cool and dry but evidence of a shower during the night. Since then it has stayed dry and the wind is drying the flags. The glass had risen to 1010mb but then fallen back it is now on 1008mb. The forecast is for a similar mixed bag to yesterday but with a more definite prediction of significant rain from midday and into the afternoon. The southerly winds are brisk and gust to 35mph at times giving us a high of 18C and a low of 12C tonight with as much as -3C wind chill at times. The six day outlook is for similar weather, a touch cooler than today but just as changeable.

It's not the Pennines but certainly weather related, just received an email from The Steam Packet.
Due to the forecast adverse weather conditions this afternoon’s sailing from Douglas to Liverpool at 14:00hrs has been cancelled.
Looks like I have an extended holiday
