It seems to have gone on in fishing families too. You might enjoy Catriona McPherson's novel `Dandy Gilver and The Reek of Red Herrings'. LINK

It was one horrendous storm last night. Even the bedroom ceiling leaked and we had to change to another bedroom. Rain had managed to get down the chimney in the lounge and we had a big dirty puddle on the tiles. . Hope it calms down for the ferry home tomorrow night!

Sounds nasty Sue! I remember lying in bed in the watermill at Kildonnan on Eigg during one of the worst storms for many years and watching the roff rising and falling in the wind.... Slept like a log, nothing I could do about it.
I shall be moving quietly forward in the shed with the Cunning Wheeze......

It looks like a couple of tiles have shifted and the seal has gone where the chimney and roof meet. We have arranged for someone to look at it ASAP. We come home on the ferry tonight but will be back at the end of April

Wrap up well Sue - we had snow from Whalley on our way home to Burnley - it looks as though they have had a couple of inches. Pendle and surrounding hills are white.
Say only a little but say it well.

I can't smell snow today but wrap up warm, it's cold in the wind!

...Removing photographs from an album where the photos go directly onto a sticky page and then clear film goes over the top. These are old black and white family pictures saved from the recycling centre. Now I am looking for a black paged album and photo corners and some time to organise the photographs. Lucky for me, grandma annotated the back of several so some long forgotten faces can be named.

I knew about the snow from my friends on Facebook. Brrr, the trip was fine and we made good time on the road back up north. I had a lovely surprise in the post. Two photos of my mum aged 16 sent by one of my newly found relatives, clearly dated too. October 2nd 1939

Nice one Sue and Julie.....
I did far too much yesterday and am suffering for it. Five hours in the shed is too much. I shall be having an easier day today and looking after the crumbling pile which is my body.....

For the first time since we came here we have no frogspawn in our ponds.

Today Dennis and I took our 3 grandchildren, daughter, and daughter in law on Puffing Billy. It's a steam train that chugs up through the hills near Melbourne for about an hour and a half trip. The beauty of the old train carriages is that the kids sit in the open windows, on the sill, with their legs on the outside of the train - great fun. We had a picnic at Emerald Lake and then caught the train back. It was a lovely, albeit long, day. It was and hour and a half trip for us to get to the station before we even started.

Sounds like my sort of a day out Liz! Glad you all enjoyed it. Exposing kids to steam engines can only do them good!
