Well done Gloria! Exactly right. I came across it when I explored Route 66 in 1998. If any of you have crossed Rannoch Moor on the Road to the Isles you will remember seeing one there.....
Stay in Route 66 mode and tell me what this is and where it can be found....

It's a petrified tree. Was it in New Mexico or Arizona? I can remember seeing a sign to the petrified forest 3 weeks ago but can't remember exactly where it was.

Spot on China! (LINK) You should have taken a detour like I did, it takes you through the Badlands and the Painted Desert as well. Fascinating bit of country...
That didn't take long! I'll have to dream up a new one now....

Snack bars I have known.... Where was this one. Note 'was'.

Past tense noted. Was it in or around the Twin Towers, Manhattan?

Seeing Rannoch Moor mentioned reminds me that somewhere I have a photo I took in the 1970s in the middle of the moor. A car standing vertically on it's front end, off the road and lodged among the boulders, almost as if it had dropped from the sky.

Next for shaving?

The Twin Towers in 1980.....

That was pure luck. `Off the top of my head' the only place I could think off in the US (cowboy hats!) that would be in the past tense was the Twin Towers! Sometimes a little knowledge is better than an abundance.

Stop criticising yourself... you got it right! Try this one.... Can anyone tell me what the significance is. Big clue, it's the quay at the Isle of Eigg and I think this was the late 1960s....

Last of the Clyde puffers? Owned by Glenlight Shipping Ltd which was formed in 1968.

Wendy is closest. This was the last visit by a puffer to the Isle of Eigg. At one time they were the lifeline between the mainland and the Scottish islands on the west coast.
Next for shaving?

While it looks like an old Airwick freshener that has been lost at the back of a cupboard for decades, is it a thread cone?
Or perhaps one of those ceramic things that used to go on old electrical wires?

P has it right.... I used to have a piece of genuine moleskin as well, now why would that go with the flaring tool.....?

They wipe the joint with a moleskin that gives protection from the heat, and is a suitable texture to allow clean wiping.
