I had an upset day yesterday due to the failure of the switch on my VM but did note that the forecast gloom and overcast deteriorated into rain in the afternoon and early evening. By 20:00 the rain had ceased and we had plain overcast again. First thing this morning it was overcast and it hasn't changed since. The glass is down on 975mb. You may remember that I have, at times, doubted the honesty of my barometer with very low readings like this but of late have managed to do comparisons with the Met Office readings and find that it is very close to accurate. This is a very low reading and the forecast is for an overcast day but it may not be any more accurate than yesterday, it says it is raining heavily at the moment! The constant Southerly winds are light and give us a high of 11C and a low of 8C with perhaps up to -2C wind chill this afternoon. The six day outlook is unchanged, similar temperatures to today and heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday.
Tonight is a Full Moon and the clocks have gone back. We are now operating on Greenwich Mean Time.

A brighter day than forecast. I have been for a walk and a sit at the end of Albert Road. No sun but no wind either and whilst not warm, certainly very acceptable for the time of year. A large skein of Canada Geese flew over en route to Whitemoor from the canal near Gill and a gang of elves in hi-viz is erecting the large emitters in Town Square.....

Yesterday afternoon deteriorated into cold showers and at 20:00 we had steady light rain. First thing this morning it was the same, calm but raining, since then it has stopped raining but we still have the overcast. The glass has risen to 986mb and the forecast is for a heavily overcast day with the chance of a light shower at any time. The constant east wind will be light and gives us a high of 9C and a low of 7C tonight with a wind chill of -2C this afternoon. The six day forecast gives us a rerun of today for tomorrow but on Wednesday and Thursday we can expect wind and heavy rain. Deep Joy! After that November will proceed as normal I expect and we'll all be glad when it's over.
Later.... I have learned that the bad weather set to come in on Wednesday night and Thursday is a named event, Storm Ciarán.

Yesterday was a succession of light showers... At 20:00 we had light rain. This morning first thing we had a thin overcast and it was dry. Since then the overcast has thickened but it is still dry despite the fact that the forecast says it is raining heavily! (This may yet come to pass....). The glass is up again on 984mb and the forecast is for heavy rain until after midday when it will be heavily overcast. The last day of October is showing us what November can bring.... Deep Joy! The outlook is for three warmer but much wetter days and then a fall in temperature but drier.
05;00. The rain has started.

I had my walk and a sit on the bench at the end of Albert Road in the light rain and ate my salad butty from Barlick Bites.... It was quite acceptable actually.
I have my veggies ready for a major cook-in tomorrow and Susan is upstairs as I write putting clean duvet covers on.
(I washed the others this morning before I went out shopping.

Yesterday the weather was practising for November and at 20:00 though it had stopped raining it was cold, wet and miserable. This morning first thing we had a light breeze and cold rain, it hasn't changed since. The glass has fallen to 989mb and the forecast is for significant rain all day except for a possible break to bright intervals for a couple of hours round midday. The southerly winds will be brisk gusting to 30mph and giving us a high of 11C, a low of 5C tonight and a wind chill of -3C. The outlook is for similar weather tomorrow and then brighter but cooler and drier weather for the rest of the week. I think we can safely say November has arrived,,,,,
Listening to the later forecasts it becomes obvious that we are being very lucky and escaping the worst of the winds. For once, the South is getting the brunt of the attack.

Yesterday was much brighter than the forecast around midday and if I hadn't been deep in veggie cooking I would have been out for a walk. However, by 20:00 it had settled in to more wind and light rain. First thing this morning the wind had increased and it was still raining, it hasn't changed since then. The glass has plunged to an astonishing 960mb and is still falling rapidly. The forecast is dead simple, wind and rain all day but we are not getting anywhere near as severe weather as they are having further south. Our northerly winds are moderate gusting to about 30mph this morning but less later. They give a high of 10C and 7C tonight with a wind chill of -4C this morning but less later. The six day outlook is for cooler weather and brighter but still a chance of occasional showers.
The main feature today is how lightly we are getting off when compared with conditions further south and especially in the Channel where winds of well over 100mph are forecast.
Later at 5:30.... The shipping forecast has just stated that Storm Ciarán is centred on Dogger Bank and is 954mb!

We've got some light rain now but that's all. The glass has started to rise from the absolute low of 957 it reached by midday. The lowest I can remember seeing. We haven't had the wind but it qualifies as extreme weather in my book.

Yesterday afternoon was dominated by rain. It went dark early and at 20:00 we had a light breeze, it was overcast but dry. This morning we have a light breeze under a clear sky with some scattered cloud. Th glass has continued its rise and has reached the dizzy height of 967mb! The forecast is for a dry day with sunny intervals. The wind has settled as a moderate westerly with gusts that do no more than make it brisk. The high is 10C the low 6C and the wind chill -4C at times all day. The six day outlook is for similar weather and temperatures to today, mainly dry.

I've had a walk and half an hour's sit at the end of Albert Road. Very pleasant if you are out of the wind and in the sun which is very strong. Bit of dinner now and then a potter in the shed....

Yesterday afternoon stayed dry and at times very sunny. At 20:00 we had a light breeze and an almost clear sky. This morning it was cold and damp, evidence of a shower earlier in the night, and very hazy, the moon was visible but only just. The glass rose slightly yesterday but has fallen slightly during the3 night, at the moment we have 968mb and still falling. The forecast is for a cloudy but dry morning and light rain this afternoon and evening. The easterly wind is light and gives us a high of 7C and a low of 6C tonight with a -3C wind chill all day. The outlook is slightly warmer and brighter until Wednesday when we are promised heavy rain.

Looks like we’ve had a shower overnight and earlier there was a bright red sky. It’s fine at the moment, but there is a lot of heavy cloud about.

Yesterday afternoon saw only the lightest of showers here in Barlick. At 20:00 we had a light breeze, it was cold and damp and fusillades of gunfire came in from the festivities.... :biggrin2: This morning it's cold, damp and breezy but dry. The forecast is for a dry day with sunny intervals all day. The glass fell yesterday to 950mb but then started rising and it's on 965mb now. Still an extremely low value. The westerly wind is moderate and gives us a high of 10C, a low of 6C tonight and a win d chill of -3C for most of the day so wrap up warm.... The outlook is for broken, cool weather with sunny intervals and showers and a wet day on Wednesday.

Later. I have had a sunny walk and a sit on traffic duty. Two police cars passed through at High speed travelling South towards Kelbrook with blue and twos full on. I sat there eating an illegal bacon sausage and egg buttie.... Cold but OK if you were wrapped up well and sat in the sun.

Yesterday afternoon stayed dry but cold until 20:00 by which time it had started raining. First thing this morning the rain was bating and the overcast thinning to the point where you could just see a bit of star glimmer. I've just had a look and it hasn't changed much from that, still calm, cold, damp and overcast with broken cloud. It looks as though we are heading out of the extreme low we have been experiencing. The glass has risen to 983mb and is still rising. The forecast is for heavy rain to start any time around now and for it and hail at times to persist all day. The SW wind will become brisk and give us a high of 9C, a low of 7C tonight and a wind chill of -3C at any time during the day. The outlook remains wet for Wednesday and Thursday with sun and showers later on.
Later at 04:30. The forecast was correct, we now have cold significant rain. Deep Joy!

It threw it down during the night, really lashed the windows. This morning we have a lot of heavy dark cloud with the odd blue bit, it’s fine, but I don’t think it’s going to stay that way for long.
