Battered cod twice. Once with chips and peas for dinner and then with eggs and chips for tea. Cheese and oatcakes for afters.....

I have made several bowls of different salads, which we will have with Homemade Beef Patties.
First Salads since May, so we have been looking forward to them...

Maz. In the days when salad ingredients were seasonal I always enjoyed the first salad of the year in Spring. Today with foreign imports it is no longer such an event. We have lost a simple pleasure because we have too much choice.
I bought carrots, cabbage and parsnips yesterday and cooked them. For dinner I picked on half a small cooked chicken and had some veggies separately. For tea I had a scotch egg with the veggies and cheese and oatcakes afterwards.

We went to Barlick Raj last night with friends for Sally's birthday, I had a Lamb Biryani. Mario's tonight with family, I fancy a bit of pasta, maybe Carbonara.

I had meat pie and the last of the veggies for dinner. I fried bacon with onions in butter, so easy to do a slow sweat on the new hob now that the thermostat works and I can have a true simmer! At the same time I roasted mutton chops in cider. The whole lot in the slow cooker after defatting the meat and gravy. All it needs this morning is the veggies and I will have another stew and veggies fit for a king!

Trout fillet fried in butter on a bed of cabbage and onion. Yesterday was liver and onions with cauli, broccoli and kale.

Snap - but Hispi cabbage for Kale. I must be reaching the path of righteousness. I must say that the liver from the local butcher where the 'meat' walks into the back yard every Monday, is a lot better than that from Tesco. It's also about double the price.

Sounds good Tripps. Kale isn't a favourite with hubby but it grows really well in the garden and I have loads of it! I was cooking it gently in butter but went away and forgot about it so it burned and had crunchy bits.....delicious!!
We are trying to use up a good crop of "pointy" cabbages before the slugs get too entrenched, so it's cabbage with every meal just now

By the way there are now low carb loaves in the supermarkets for anyone who can't bear to give up bread. Hovis, Warburton and Morrisons now sell small "High protein" loaves with between 8 and 10 gms of carbs per slice, which is approximately half the amount in a normal loaf.

I'm doing very well at eschewing all forms of bread, only an occasional lapse so I shall not be buying 'low carb bread'. I love those 'pointy cabbages' Wendy, the Co-op sell them and they are called Sweetheart. I've been a good customer for them. Yesterday was a re-run of the day before. I extended what was left of the mutton and veggies with string beans and had it for dinner and tea. Today is butcher's day so I can have treats! I am ready for another half sheep in the freezer......

I picked on half a small spit roasted chicken for dinner, reinforced by some coleslaw. One thing I am enjoying is the ability to run the rings on my hob properly as the thermostats work! Before I went for my afternoon sleep I put a steak pudding in cold water on the smallest ring and number 1 on the knob. Perfect, it was nicely slow cooked ready for teatime and I had it with peas. Kathy had popped a slice of quiche and a cream trifle in my bag so I had them for afters......

Tiger prawns with a ginger, chilli and lime dressing to start. Pork fillet wrapped in bacon, pork ribs with a chilli glaze and braised carrot, courgette and kale. A selection of cheeses and I did succumb to the small piece of fruit cake

Kev, that's my sort of grub, plenty of variety but as you know I tend to cook in industrial quantities so I don't have to cook every day.....
I had a Scotch egg with the last of the coleslaw for dinner. For tea I had meat pie and mushy peas reinforced with two poached eggs. St Augur and biscuits for afters, the Co-op have it in stock again and it was an introductory offer. They've kept it off the shelf for months and no it's back it's more expensive. Seems to be a favourite ploy these days. Can you remember when they did the same with Branston Pickle? They announced it was to be discontinued and then brought it back 'due to popular demand' but the price went up. Cunning Wheezes department!

Ahh, and I thought you were being adventurous!
Yesterday was mass cooking.
I have to admit to one accident. When I'd finished roasting the mutton I simmered it in the big CI casserole for a couple of hours and when I came to pour the gravy off into a bowl to separate the fat it slipped and I knocked the Pyrex bowl onto the floor and broke it. What a bloody mess! Then I cut my finger on the broken glass! I have to admit my language was a bit colourful..... I rescued most of the gravy. For dinner I had a Scotch egg and veggies, for tea the same but with a meat pie. No cooking for a day or two!

I caramelised a small saucepan of Red Onions and Red Capsicum this morning. Then I made two tarts with Philo Pastry and filled them with the Red Onion/Capsicum and Feta Cheese. Baked in the oven ( the smell was wonderful) and served with Baby Peas and Mashed Potato.
Hubby really loved it.

Just my pride that is bruised Maz and a sore finger end. Like you I hate breaking things and the Pyrex bowl was one that my mother had 70 years ago..... I vacuumed up afterwards and think I have got all the fine shards.... I note that the soup phase didn't last long!
The mutton and veggie is in full flow and is nice. I had it for dinner and tea with the last of the St Augur on oatcakes for afters.

I think 31C is a bit warm for Soup, Stanley.
I've made several Salads, hard boiled some Eggs and opened a jar of Baby Beetroot. That will all go nicely with the Beef Croquettes I've made and will cook in about an hour's time. Then we hit the pavement for an after dinner walk.
