Very droll....
This grabbed me, a loaf baked and a fresh brew while I was doing vital engineering in the shed. Who says blokes can't multi-task!

In light of the recent events concerning the group currently know as Islamic state, one has to wonder what they are trying to achieve. It would be foolhardy to assume that their brutality has reached its peak with the burning to death of a captive. It is also now quite clear that any kind of negotiation, or desperate pleas from the victims family and governments does not work. In addition it is also clear that those who choose to go to the aid of the IS have a very limited future, and in many cases, none at all, Having realised that what they have got themselves into is not just the next level of a brutal game, many have tried to escape, few have succeeded. It is not possible to get an estimate of just how many innocent people have been enslaved, or tortured, raped or murdered, or have lost their homes and dignity, but it is easy to see why Jordan has stated that the retribution will be "Earth Shattering". I do not believe this to be an idle threat as their armed forces are possibly the best in that area, many were trained here.

It's good bread Moh, Flour (White and wholemeal half and half), yeast, salt, sugar, Medium oatmeal, olive oil and water. I use molasses sugar and that deepens the colour of the bread and the crust. I put the bread straight into a plastic bag while it is hot so it doesn't lose moisture, I like my bread and crust soft! Texture is just right... Beats shop bread by a country mile and much cheaper of course. (The kids love it....)
The appointment of Justice Goddard to the CSA enquiry. We may be on the right track at last. I love the fact that she has Maori ancestry, you can't get much further from the Establishment! (
LINK). In addition, the dismissal of the Rotherham councillors and the publishing of the devastating report into the abuse. Here again, it looks as though we are at last seeing some positive action.

Yesterday all of the senior members of my Wife's family travelled to Milton Keynes to visit their Brother who is now in hospital with advanced pancreatic cancer. Two of this Mans Daughters were also there with his Grandchildren. This latter group have spent all of their lives in Milton Keynes with only rare visits to Barnoldswick for weddings etc. One of the Grandchildren, a youth of 16 has looked at the "Visit Barnoldswick" website, he is a cadet who wishes to join the Regular Army, he also stated quite clearly that having seen the website, Barnoldswick is where he would like to live. I have never been there, nor had any desire to do so, our families who live there see it as a "broken place". I have a friend who was the Chief of Police there several years ago, broken place was his verdict as well. The Brother in hospital has made his wishes quite clear "When I am done, take me home to Barlick, do not leave me here"!

Two i9nteresting mails this morning. The first was from my mate Daniel letting me know that Roger Perry's book on graffiti, 'The Writing on the Wall' is going to be published again for the third time. I looked my 1976 edition up on Bookfinder and the cheapest was £140.... Here's the
LINK for the article on the new edition, £25. Get out there and buy it, a good investment..... (and a good book!)
Then I had a curious mail from a woman called Susan Miller informing me that there are typos on Oneguy and that for a small fee she will spellvhck it for us.... Guess where I filed that one....

An enquiry about Joseph Stiglitz and Inequality....
Susan turned up yesterday with a bunch of Christie hand towels and face cloths she had bought in a sale. Just in time, my kitchen towels are showing their age! You still can't beat Christie cotton goods....

The BBC web site has a story titled `Car ploughs into 300-year-old Corfe Castle hotel':
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-31147917
but perhaps more interesting to OG readers is that in May 2013 the same hotel was struck by a Fowler steam roller:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-22510480
The latter story shows two photos of the mangled machine - good job no-one was in the way!

The single pivot connection via an iron casting of the front roller of these engines is the weakest point of the machine. One was once knocked off the road at West Marton in a collision with an early private car. The car drove away, the roller was badly damaged.
How nice a clean deep fat fryer with clean dripping looks!

The mention of John Deere tractors on Bob's Bits. I sent him this pic.....
I have an idea that the man in Minnesota who gave me this was the same bloke who had one of the original Holt crawler tractors which was still a runner.

A few pictures of some of the Road Signs that seem a bit unnecessary.........
How is this road in town any more uneven than any other one and will drivers even see a sign that is half way up a lamp post?
An old school sign when there hasn't been a school for over a generation.
A new school sign on Wellhouse St, when I last looked there was no school on here, nearest 'school' is Pendle Nursery on Fountain Street, wouldn't the sign be better on Fountain Street?
Do we really need a sign to tell us there are 'New Traffic Signals Ahead'?

It was Claire Teall who attracted my attention to this; in the grass verge on Kelbrook Road open to the sky...

Rick is right about road signs. Stand in the car park in Brook Street and look at the number of signs you can see.....

Ringo, I see you are uploading your pictures into the gallery but inserting into posts directly with the album string.
If you copy the image url directly above the album string and then use the insert image widget in the post editor (the one with the mountain) you will get a full sized picture at the insertion point rather than the thumbnail. Here's your first one using this method.
If you click on your images as they are you navigate to the image browser and its not very easy to get back to the thread. There is a topic here where we thrashed out all the new image handling stuff when the site was new if you want to have a read.
Images Tips and Tricks
It should be noted that since those early posts in the tips thread, the site software will now auto resize images in posts from the gallery to ensure they fit within the post.
