Ditto!
So Sunset Strip birthday...not Route 66...
Hope it was fun. How did you celebrate? Surely not a Sunset Strip?!

I did some welding yesterday and will do a bit more today. I found a new use for the stove, baking welding rods to make sure they are bone dry.

Well done for spotting the gap in the market. I shall be sampling the pies as a birthday treat!
What struck me this morning was how pleasant it is to knock off early in the shed and go for a bit of veggie and nut shopping in the Town Square. I had three nice conversations with friends and really enjoyed a relaxing walk. There is much to be said for living in Barlick and being part of the community....

Thanks to you all.... I celebrated by spending £23 on the cheese stall in the Square on two lumps of cheese, some Roquefort and Parmigiano Reggiano. I think I need a restraining order imposing on me.....

Looks like we will soon have special braille number markings on our paper-money thanks to a blind 13yr old Australian boy who after often being embarrassed because he felt he was taking too much time while trying to find the correct denomination of his paper-money when paying for something. Recently he and his Mum gathered a support team together to help him 'take on' our Reserve Bank explaining to them what a great help this would be for blind and visually impaired people. It's such an obvious thing to do (in hind-sight) you wonder why it took so long.
Do other countries have braille on their paper-money or will this be 'a first'?

You're right Cathy, they come round more quickly each year.... I like the idea of Braille banknotes.... never heard of it before. Why not coins as well?
Tea at Susan's this afternoon......
I have to report a death in the family.... My heavy Hebden Bridge green cotton corduroy trousers got so thin they developed a hole on the left knee. Completely worn out.... They have given good service. RIP!

"they developed a hole on the left knee"

In which case carry on wearing them. You would be very much on trend, and gain credibility amongst the younger end. If it's good enough for David Beckham. . .

PS - noticed that the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester was relaunched yesterday with fireworks. That brought back a few memories as I went to school nearby and passed the place every day. Looks like they have done a great job.

What I particularly noticed was that a prime exhibit seems to be a sculpture Genesis is' by Jacob Epstein. I last saw it at Blackpool on the prom in Madame Tussaud's (I think), where it was on show, and considered quite shocking at the time. Still one of the stars of the show, but not shocking any longer.
Actually just plain ugly.

From the latest 'Pendle Matters' (with Andrew Stephenson MP for Pendle).
A quote from the first page..by Boris Johnson, " Or putting it all at risk with the chaos that would result from Ed Miliband as Prime Minister - spending, borrowing and taxing more- and propped up by who knows what minor party"
I take it he doesn't realize that his Tory party is currently being propped up by a minor party. This is from a man who is talking about relinquishing his USA citizenship so that it would be possible for him to challenge for the leadership of the Tory party. Between him and Nigel Farage, one could paraphrase the popular song words. ' jokers to the right of me and clowns farther right what is this world coming to'.

Sally came across this one on Facebook today, attributed to Dennis Skinner:

Dennis Skinner: "Half the Tories opposite are Crooks."

Mr Speaker: "Please retract":

Dennis Skinner: "Ok, half the Tories opposite aren't crooks."
