Yesterday it never really stopped mizzling but at 20:00 it was calm, overcast and dry. It was the same first thing this morning and hasn't changed since. The glass is on 1015mb and falling. The forecast is for a bright overcast dry day but with rain coming in late tonight. The westerly winds are moderate gusting to over 30mph and giving a high of 7C and a low of 5C tonight. There could be as much as -5C wind chill later in the day. The outlook is for similar but wetter weather and there could be a bit of wind on Thursday.....

I've had my walk and a sit for half an hour on traffic duty..... The world and his wife are shopping but I suspect this Saturday will be the big one.... They forecast a wind chill of 5C and they were right, good job I was well wrapped up. Now for dinner.... :biggrin2:

The afternoon stayed dry and there was even the odd patch of sunshine! By 20:00 the wind had got up but it was still dry. This morning the Met Office says it's raining but it isn't and the wind has dropped. It's dry, calm and overcast. The glass is down slightly on 1013mb and the forecast is for rain all day.... The constant westerly winds are going to become moderate and gust to 40mph giving a high of 8C, a low tonight of 8C and a wind chill of up to -5C. The outlook is for strong winds up to 60mph tomorrow, then warmer and wetter for the rest of the week. Xmas day will be sunshine and showers and a similar temperature to today.
05:00. The wind has risen significantly and we now have fine mizzle.

Down here in Taunton we too are going to get very strong winds, starting at 04.00 tomorrow (Thursday) and ending at 08.00 on Friday. Average speed of 40-50mph. The reality is that we've already had strong winds today.

Same here Tizer, we have had gusts over 45mph today and there are winds over 50mph expected from later this evening. It looks as if they will carry on over the weekend till Boxing Day.

Yesterday was wet and windy and at 20:00 it was breezy and starting to rain again. This morning it's raining and the wind is rising. The glass is falling and at the moment is on 997mb. We have a yellow wind warning until 21:00 and it will rain for most of the day. The brisk WNW wind will gust to 60mph at times and we will have a high of 9C and a low of 6C tonight with a wind chill of -5C for most of the day making it feel like just above freezing. The outlook is as Wendy says, a wet and windy weekend becoming a bit brighter on Xmas Day. The good thing is that on the whole temperatures are going to be above the seasonal average.
Margaret tells me that in Perth they have high 30s temperature..... I think on the whole I'd rather have our temperate climate!
Later.....The shipping forecast started with warnings of gales in all areas and went on to detail many areas in the North as having violent storms force 11. That's the flavour for today.

We’ve had some very heavy winds during the night, and it’s still very blustery. Expected to get up to see or hear of damage, but none as yet.

Really heavy gusts here and still as strong as earlier. I have slept like a baby for two hours despite it. Susan and Mick say that their mobile home rocked like a ship all night and they didn't sleep properly...... The joys of being a nomad..... :biggrin2:

Conflicting reports of the Kelbrook Road, Salterforth closure. Police report a RTC and others saying a tree is down. Either way at 10:44 it's closed.

Wind is currently supplying 46% of the nation's energy requirement. That's the highest I've ever seen it.

Yesterday was as bad a wind as I can remember for a long time but we had it easy compared with the north of Scotland. At 20:00 it was peculiar in that we had a clear sky and rain at the same time. Must have been a cloud somewhere!
This morning the wind has dropped but it's still breezy and at the moment it's raining. The glass has risen to 1002mb and the forecast is for rain all day. The westerly wind is brisk and gusts to 40mph giving a high of 8C and a low of 8C tonight with a -5C wind chill for much of the day. The outlook is for similar weather, rain for the next two days and then Xmas and Boxing Days a bit drier....

I don't think it stopped raining all day yesterday. Only light rain but always present. Still a breeze and light rain at 20:00. First thing this morning, guess what, a breeze and light rain. It has stopped raining at the moment. The glass is up on 1005mb and the forecast is for the rain to come back in late morning and be with us for the rest of the day. The westerly winds are constant, brisk and gusting to 45mph at times. They give us a high of 9C and a low tonight of 8C with a -5C wind chill at times. The outlook is for two milder days and then coming in colder and wetter on Boxing Day.

Yesterday was wet and windy and it was still liker that at 20:00 when I went to bed. First thing this morning, guess what, wet and windy still and it hasn't changed since. The glass fell all day and this morning is on 996mb and still falling. The forecast is for significant rain for most of the day. The WSW wind is constant and brisk and gusts to almost 50mph at times. It gives us a high today of 11C and a low tonight of 7C with a -4C wind chill all day. Tomorrow and Boxing Day will be cooler and overcast but dry. Then on Wednesday we can expect rain....
I suppose the good thing is that it is warmer than the seasonal average.....
Later.... The Met office say that the record temperature of 15C for Wales is likely to be broken today. If it is, this will be the warmest Xmas Eve on record.....

Crazy isn’t it, we are having a much cooler than average temperature for Christmas Day. 20C.

No complaints, 20C is much more civilised 😂

It's very wet and windy! Grim is the word for it but we are warm and cosy inside and all prepared for a quiet, simple Xmas.

Just been round to the Coop and it's enough to blow you away, with horizontal rain, that thin stuff that wets you! Realised we had no brown onions for the nut roast and we picked up the bacon from the butchers yesterday and also found we had no teacakes to put it in for tomorrow morning. Both still available so sorted. :extrawink:

There's always something isn't there Ian. Yes, I just stuck my head out of the door and quickly pulled it back in. No walk and sit on traffic duty today!

Yesterday was the mildest Christmas Eve since 1997 and today is going to set a similar record. It stopped raining at about 15:00 but by 20:00 it was starting again. First thing this morning it was wet and windy, It's improved slightly since then in that the rain is lighter now..... The glass is up a touch on 998mb and the forecast is for wind and rain all day with an outside chance of some sunny intervals this afternoon. The constant WSW wind is brisk and gusts to 35mph all day giving a high of 8C and a low tonight of 4C with a -4C chill possible all day. The outlook is for a quiet gloomy day tomorrow but then Wednesday and Thursday are going to be even milder and wetter. After that we might get some drier weather with temperatures down nearer the seasonal average.

Yesterday was wet and windy. At 20:00 it was wet and windy, First thing this morning it was wet and windy, it's not changed, it is still wet and windy. Have you got the picture? The glass has risen a touch to 1001mb. The forecast is for the wind to drop and for it to be clear and dry but no signs of this yet in Barlick! They say the wind will drop around 06:00..... The forecast wind is westerly all day, brisk and gusting at first to over 35mph but then dropping. We will have a high of 5C and a low of 3C tonight with an initial wind chill of -5C. Tomorrow we will have a complete contrast, 11C and heavy rain but then the rest of the week is much colder drier and brighter. The least we can say is that it's going to be a change!

Yesterday was a bright and mainly dry day. At 20:00 we had a light breeze and overcast but it was dry. This morning first thing we still had the light breeze and it was just starting to rain. Since then the wind has risen slightly and now we have the rain. The glass rose yesterday to almost 1020mb but since then has fallen back to 1006mb and falling. The forecast is for heavy rain all day, there is a yellow warning until 18:00. The southerly winds will be brisk and gust to 45mph giving a high of 11C and a low of 6C tonight with a -4C wind chill for most of the day. The outlook is for mixed and unsettled weather, rapidly getting cooler until on Saturday it is almost cold enough for the rain to turn to snow. (It is winter after all!)
I see that Australia's east coast has been battered by thunderstorms and seven people have died....
Listening to the Shipping Forecast the features that strike immediately are the number of warnings for violent Storm 11 and the speed at which barometers are falling. Be careful out there, it's nasty!
