Yes - if Gracie has been chillaxing she gets up and tries to see what’s making the noise round the back of the TV. Doesn’t seem too excited by it though.

She chillaxes quite a bit now that we’ve found a few pals up in Letcliffe to run around with and use up all that energy*. Although 2 chihuahuas did give her a bit of a hard time today, snapping and snarling when she went up to say hello.

The trick where you turn your back and wander off in the opposite direction when the dog won’t come back also works a treat. Today I noticed Gracie kept looking from afar to make sure I was watching her and when I pretended I couldn’t give a monkeys she suddenly appeared right behind me.

*OK - she runs round and I plod.

Jack watching... When I go for a pee Jack always comes with me and has a sniff. Is he checking my wee-mail? If I could wire him up and read his brain waves would he be doing a quick diagnosis of my health?

I just stumbled across this old video taken by Gus and his Grand Kids whilst out on a walk, it shows my old pet piggy Lulubelle who use to have the run of the place. She use to come and bang on the kitchen door when it was feeding time. Her favourite treats were Smart Priced Custard Creams (a packet at a time).

I miss her quite a lot, she was very intelligent and good natured, especially with kids.

Great video! I remember Lulu well, a happy pig with a splendid companion animal! Pigs are much under-rated animals, I love 'em. I can still see Ted Waite hard and fast asleep in the straw with his arm round one of my sows at Hey Farm after he had a session in the Dog one hot summer's day. Worse places to fall asleep! She was in a bed of clean straw.
Tiz, I know someone who has a dog that tells her she is about to have an epileptic fit so she can lie down and be safe. Not got Jack up to that level yet!

We have two spaniels here who can tell me that I have "something" happening. Sam is still mithering about the noise on the Lulu video

I admitted to not having watched the video of Lulabelle - nothing against pigs, I'm just not very fired up by videos. So she sat me down in front of her computer and played it. A fine animal, you were lucky to have such a friend Doc. Also, it reminded me of the Muppets in Space film where they are sitting eating breakfast when Miss Piggy rushed past behind the two Old Men and out of the door. One man said to the other "Ah well, I guess the bacon's run out". (Hope that isn't too insensitive a tale to relate here!)

A nice thing happened yesterday. I don't know if I ever told you about the woman who verbally attacked me one morning claiming that Jack was dangerous and a sheep worrier. I saw the same lady again but didn't recognise her, her dog had run off and she was upset about it. I tried whistling for her and sure enough the dog came galloping back, someone had trained it to the whistle. She was very relieved and told me that she owed me an apology for her earlier outburst. She admitted that it was caused by her stress about her own dog. Nice. She said she was going to get a shepherd's whistle and carry it with her when she was out with the dog. Just goes to show how mistakes can be made. The important thing was she admitted it.

Hubby went off for his morning walk around the fields today and came back with a pet carrier. It contained two tiny bantam cockerels, and had been left tucked behind a wall just off the track. Have they been dumped in a place where someone hoped they would get a good home, or left on the wrong farm track by mistake....is someone wondering where their cockerels are??? We have put them in a spare run, and they are very perky, well fed little chaps who make an appalling din.

Maggie failed her MOT, so yesterday I had to take her to the vet.

Her food was donated back to Carole at the pet shop, as I had only just bought the 15kg bag on Thursday.

I have put in an order for another dog with the dog wardens for a couple of months time.

Michael, commiserations, many of us have been there. It's the right thing to do but very hard.

Doc, Jack's favourite person, has moved down into Barlick and is at the moment in a rented house near Cravenside. I took him out for his trot and third delivery yesterday on the Green and while I was bagging and tagging realised he had vanished. Not usual behaviour at all. I walked round the corner and he was on his hind legs pushing on Doc and Carol's back gate. I never fail to be amazed by him, it can be hard work living with a Duracell Dog but nobody could ever say that he doesn't lead a full and happy life! And yes, we went in for a cup of tea! I know when I'm beat!

My hens have been very perky since the excitement of Jack's visit.

Misty was 8 years old last Thursday. Looking good apart from some grey around the muzzle but then we can all get a bit of that. Nolic

Glad to hear it Wendy! He thought it was a fine game! Comrade, Jack is starting to get the white hairs in his coat. He'll end up like my old pup Jess in the end! Here's a pic of her at 13 years old, she used to be jet black like Jack b ut more hair.
