Wendy I can't remember whether it was a topic by itself. I can't find it either. Thanks for the info on uploading. I'll have a go

I have an idea that the Maylard stuff was embedded in the Widdup research.
I spent quite a while documenting the water wheel at Lothersdale. Here's the interior of the wheel in 1983

Today is a shed day....

It was an interesting visit to Lothersdale Mill. What a huge responsibility for the woman who owns it. She wants to develop the mill to benefit the community and not turn it into housing.
Trip to Leeds to visit Mum today.

I've done a bit of everything today. Cleaned the house, washing, and a bit of Ancestry....then weeded the front garden and planted two Rose Bushes, and sprayed the driveway for weeds coming up between the pavers. Also transplanted some Baby Mondo Grasses that I had divided and potted some weeks ago ( they were earmarked for my son but he has never mentioned them since I dug them out and divided them....that will teach him! He should know there is only the quick and the dead in these parts!) So the front is looking nice. Just the back to weed now. But it has come in damp and cold this evening, so I am inside now beside the heater, with Shepherd's Pie and Veg nearing ready. Feeling quite tired after my little spurt.

I wish I could get my house clean quickly. I don't know why but it takes me days! I think I get distracted very easily, and the house gets very very messy very very quickly. Dog hair, cat hair, horse hair, the odd feather, wisps of hay and shavings...(no, the hens and horses aren't allowed in the house!)

I have a tried and true system that I follow every week, Wendy ( which many would find slightly obsessive/compulsive...but it works for me to the very minute).
Up at 07 30....strip the bed...jump in the shower and scrub it...throw the first load of washing on...make the bed...clean the rest of the ensuite and that toilet ( then I break for a quick coffee). Then I clean the other bathroom and toilet. First load of washing goes out on the line, second load goes in the washer. Out with the vacuum cleaner and whizz through the entire house ( we have laminate floors). I dust as I go. Then out comes the bucket and mop. Floors dry as I hang the second load of washing out. Then, being Monday, I whip the rubbish bins out. Then I clean the hot plates and give all the stainless steel stuff a wipe with stainless steel cleaner. Fresh towels to bathrooms.
Jobs done. Make a coffee and sit down for Corrie at 10 am.

Not difficult. Two and a half hours of frenzy and it is all done. ( so do you think you could handle it? :geek: )

Sorry.
( wendy, Wendy...have you fainted?)
I am a bit like this in everything I do Wendy ( start with a plan and get organised...then in and out....lickety split...job done).
The fact is, that I only have three days of freedom a week ( hubby Febby being home the other four and we do all sorts of stuff together and are never home, often hitching up the van and throwing the canoes and bikes on top and taking off for a few days). So the three days I have must be enough for everything else I do. I'm not spending three days drifting about the house casually flip flopping a feather duster. Get it all done quick sticks, to free up time for gardening, quilting, Ancestry, visiting Cazza one morning a week etc, or simply having time to read a book.
I am used to it now, but it has taken some adjustment to make the three days work for me.
( please lord, don't let him get it into his head to cut down to two days work a week!)

He doesn't cook ( unless I am on my deathbed) but I can't complain because he does the ironing for both of us, and he mows the lawns and often cleans both cars. We share the job of washing the windows ( him outside and me inside).

Sorry to shock you my dear.( smelling salts duly administered)
What is it about my routine that you cannot grasp?

That cleaning schedule is mind-boggling Maz, the only thing that comes anywhere near is the sight of Grommit cleaning Wallace's house (you do get `Wallace & Grommit' in Oz don't you?)

Love Wallet and Gimmace, Tiz.

Nah...my cleaning routine frees up heaps of time...wouldn't tackle it any other way.
I forgot to mention that the couches get moved and cleaned under AND the cushions come off too and I clean under them every week. Found a slice of Tomato down Febby's couch today. Grilled Cheese and Tomato was had for Sunday lunch in front of the Football, and he missed his mouth! ( of course I pointed his sin out to him)

I can see the advantages of your cleaning schedule Maz, and I really should try to be a bit more organised. I'm sure my life would be improved. Now then...cleaning windows...what does that involve exactly?

Obtaining the services of a window cleaner :laugh5:

Lovely exchange! Can I suggest that Alfie could be fitted with sticky pad boots so that he picks up hairs etc when he is shut in the house of an evening...? Come to think, Jack would be a good helper....
I shall be in the shed once I have finished dealing with the site. I don't know about there being fewer posts!
Maz, did I see a report that you were much colder than usual?

I think Maz could be feeling a bit chilly, she did all that cleaning without stopping to get dressed :surprised: !!
Sitting room & kitchen to clean today, meals to think about for visitors arriving tomorrow and the poly tunnel needs some attention.

Much colder in the evenings lately, but days are ok.
Still walking every evening...in the pitch black darkness, with coats and scarves. ( Febby coming up for his batch of tests soon 5 years post triple bypass. He is doing great, though he is well and truly heading for Diabetes.)

I get dressed before making the bed Wendy...too cold to hang about in the buff for too long this weather! ( have been known to buzz about the house in knickers and Tshirt in the summer though)

Maz, tell Febby that diabetes isn't the end of the world these days as it is almost certainly Type 2 and modern treatment is very good. I seem to be stable on 3X500mg Metformin a day and no complications with diet. In fact I often wonder if I actually have it but the Doc tells me there is no doubt.
I had a lazy day yesterday and read instead of going in the shed. Must do better today!

Gardening in Brittany today but it is very warm and humid. I need to get the veggi plants in as we are off to Cahors tomorrow for a few days to see the Tour de France. Stanley the ladslove here is doing very well indeed. Quite a sizeable plant.

Good! Mine is thriving as well despite me cutting it right back in early spring. I suppose really I ought to split it, any ideas about the best time for this?

Another planned training session cancelled today due to managers having to cover for absent staff. Leaves me time to have a watch of day time TV and read my new Peter Robinson novel.
I am tempted to start Beevors Second World War but I've waited this long and I'm determined to save that for my holidays. Nolic

Comrade, is absenteeism on the rise? We hear so much about it these days.
Today is shopping, posting Salterforth 5 and small tasks. Any time left will be devoted to light filing (eccentric straps!), reading and having an afternoon sleep. Retirement is wonderful.....

Comrade, not sure about a rise of absenteeism in the children's care sector. I yesterdays instance three staff all came down with d and v after a trip to Blackpool along with 2 girls from the home so I think it was too many toffee apples. Nolic
