I'm a bit short of detail on this but some while ago Doctors could prescribe some swimming/ gym activity at the local leisure centre. I'm not sure if the centre went on to offered some initial discount on the production of the prescription. Cycling may be Ok for those who are brave enough to get mixed up with heavy traffic or who can manage the steep hills we have round here but count me out.

We can ride for miles around here...a dedicated coastal path that will take you 30 miles or more. Then there is the ride back of course. It is a wonderful ride along the coast, as we have Whales birthing their young at this time of year.
Was almost tempted to jump on our bikes yesterday, but the wind was a little brisk and I couldn’t risk a flare-up of Sciatica.
( must be sensible Maz)
We have E-bikes, no no worries about a bit of distance. It is all down to my Sciatica, which limits us unfortunately. I refuse to spend two days in agony after a bike ride.

I should add that we have ordinary bikes too, for really good days. E-bikes are great though.

Cycling is wonderful exercise if you are fit enough to do it. I believe that my early cycling days when we took it very seriously and were super fit young lads has benefited me all my life and still is today. But.... and it's a big but, I am past that. I'd far rather see more promotion of walking. There is also the added benefit of exposure to green nature and in particular running water. I believe it is known as Green Therapy. (See

Why is it easier for me to reach for a clean dish cloth from the airer in the morning? (Much harder later in the day.)

A hot morning shower?
I can do a lot more physical things in the mornings and thru the day to about mid afternoon, than I can in the evenings.

My worst time of the day is from about 3am onwards, then getting out of bed! I free up after a hot bath in the morning...

That's when I get up Maz. Perhaps you should do the same and have a kip later in the day?
I went digging on the subject of taller in the morning and found
THIS. I don't know the site but it sounds like a rational answer to me. This is what I was told years ago.

My husband is allergic to me having any rest during the day! If he finds me reading, we must go for a walk! He doesn’t like me going to bed early either. I am stuck with the hours I am given. But 3am is my witching hour, when all pain comes to haunt.

Not sure if you can alter people's predilections by legislation. If my memory serves me correctly there ware fat people in the war under strict rationing. How does altering food labels help?
Having seem haribo gummi bears the contents are mainly sugar, glucose syrup (from Maize or Corn or similar), Palm Oil Palm Kernal Oil.
I am convinced part of the problem has been the soft drinks industry with fructose syrups etc, and the palm oil, most of it is not needed. Would like to see a breakdown by gender and ethnic categories and age, the large african lady, the really large african old man, likewise the sikh and hindu bus drivers seem a bit on the big size due to work. Am trying to get the wife off that arficial cheese on pizzas, (we only got them from the 60s !), wagon wheels ( mallow is all sugar works), and drenching perfectly good salad items in an oily sluge of mayo or 1000 island dressings.
My cousins life was saved being fat around the middle, he fell down a mine shaft in cornwall, and got stuck any thinner and 200ft drop.
back too the war, food in the 'British Restaurants' did not count for the ration book, I think most was Snook (whale) and potatoes - thanks Ireland may have been neutral but the agriculture probably saved britian

Out of curiosity I checked my BP yesterday afternoon expecting it to be affected by the high temperature, I was surprised and pleased when I got a reading of 123/80. I must be doing something right.

It's bad enough with kids swallowing batteries but now we have them getting caught out by brightly-coloured, powerful, tiny rare earth magnets. They end up with their intestines snagged up by the batteries in one bit binding to those in another bit...eeek!

A hazard we never had to contend with thank God. Modern life is so complicated.
At times I have considered installing DRO on my lathe and milling machine (
LINK) but have always rejected it in favour of 'old school' methods of measuring. Just one more thing to go wrong. (Off piste I know, sorry about that, but another of life's complications. Include me out!)

Well that was very different. Sally has just had a 20 minute physio appointment via video link on her tablet. It worked very well, John the physio who was based over in Ilkley gave her a few more moves to add to her existing repertoire and will email some additional core exercises for her. They have scheduled another session in three weeks time to see how she is getting on. All good stuff.

BBC radio news last night mentioned a man being seriously ill after eating home grown courgette and said it was due to seed from the Mr Fothergill's brand. I've looked on the web and only found this news story from July in the Mail...
