Bryan Fieldhouse has had his faulty camera replaced on his drone and filmed this at Letcliffe Park yesterday. LINK

Take it easy Pluggy and look after yourself.... The weather is in your favour, good grub, fresh air and give yourself time to recover.
David, wonderful views. Barlick has never been seen like this before, the more the merrier!

THIS BBC REPORT caught my attention. The cancelling of at least the next two episodes of Top Gear after a 'fracas' between Clarkson. J and a producer. Hardly any surprise really, he's been sailing close to the wind for years. I enjoy the programme but have always been irked by the strand of 'schoolboy humour' that all three of them must consider part of the charm of the show. All three presenters are guilty in some degree but Clarkson leads the field as it is evident he considers himself the most important element. Reports this morning that a petition to reinstate him has already reached 120,000 signatures.... Hard to see how the BBC can back down and I'm afraid all this will end badly. Egos are all well and good if there is an element of restraint, this has failed here and Clarkson might have to learn a belated lesson. Good!

I guess when you've sold your share of the rights to the programme for millions of pounds you feel entitled to have an enlarged ego! I wish the producer had taken the opportunity to punch Clarkson and plead self-defence.

I see his mate Dave weighed in with support yesterday. It appears that the trigger was a petulant outburst about food.... I wonder how the rest of the team feel about being out of a job.... Glad I don't have to deal with prima donnas.... (Mind you come to think, there is Jack....)

‘ ….a petulant outburst about food..’

Yes, we were laughing about that last night (assuming it was indeed the cause though Mr May seems to confirm it was). Here he is, the scourge of the PC-class, a man who tells it like it is and stands up for Queen and country (and probably Empire). Takes no truck from Jonny Foreigner and all these other whingers he’d take out and ‘shoot’, or put to the chase.

And then who, on not being given a hot dinner has what I think is termed a ‘diva strop’ on the catwalk, and proceeds clocks someone. Hilarious.

I am no longer a fan of top gear as it has gone beyond its origins, and Was never a fan of Mr. Clarkson as an individual. Yet I do admire they who are not afraid to speak their minds, and tell it like it is. As a nation, we are constantly reminded of what we should not say, think or do, as we may cause offence to what are usually minority groups, whilst still recognising that they have a place in the grand design. They can say what they wish to, and when they wish to, we often have to keep our mouths shut, not for our sakes, but theirs.

Today is Friday the 13th of March 2015, 43 years ago, it was Tuesday the 13th of March 1972, Early that morning I took a taxi to Colne Railway Station and began a journey that would change my life forever, I was on my way to HMS Raleigh in Cornwall to join the Royal Navy. At Colne there was another young man from Earby, John Greenbank, also heading to Cornwall. We went to Crewe via Preston and there we were joined by others with the same destination. The next big stop was Temple Meads in Bristol and by the time we left there the train was full of young Men and Women all going to Plymouth. At Crewe, John had put my case on the rack, and asked “what the hell have you got in here” it was eight pint bottles of Tetley’s Family Ale donated by the Band Club in Earby where I had earlier been the Steward, all were empty by the time we arrived in Plymouth. For me, what followed is a long story, but I will never forget that first night. We were in HMS Fisguard, across the road from Raleigh, this was called “New Entry” and here we would spend our first six days before moving over the road. There were 30 of us and I was the oldest at 31, the next two were Bob Mitchell form Dalgety Bay in Scotland aged 30, and Len Norton from Gateshead aged 29, the youngest was just 17. There were 5 from Scotland, 3 from Wales, 2 from Bradford and the rest were from all over the UK. After lights out that night, and laying in my bed (pit) contemplating the day and what was to come, I listened to the sounds around me. Some were already snoring, some were like myself, just quiet, and some were sobbing, by the morning there were also several wet beds. We had four days in which to decide whether we would carry on, or opt out and go home, three went home, before the end of that week I found myself in charge of the remainder as “Class Leader”, I then had not just myself to look after, but 26 others as well. In the initial 6 weeks of training, we lost 2 more but gained 2 who had been back classed from earlier drafts. It is with great pride that I can tell you that we won everything on offer, and that the whole class went forward with the highest marks ever achieved in part one training, eventually we all went our separate ways, some who had signed on for 3 years, stayed in the service, some left, and over time I lost touch with the majority of them. Three of us had signed on for 12 years, myself, Bob and Len, I added a further 5 to mine and often wonder where the others all are now.

Heather Sheldrick's new 'I Love Barnoldswick' mugs.

Me and Claire Teall took some to Belper (to a seminar for Great British High Street winners). The mugs, which feature a guide on how to build a community, were snapped up by the delegates and those presenting. We showed one of Bryan Fieldhouse's Barnoldswick films to good effect (in all modesty, it was by far the best presentation) and left many people yearning to visit us...

Please forgive the, er, flattering photo...

Is this just plain daft? A scientific survey is to be carried out to establish why Penguins waddle, from my point of view, they do, and that's good enough for me. To a penguin, walking at all is not their primary feature, and to most of us I am sure that we know enough reasons why they waddle as they do, short legs with little articulation is why. Such surveys do not come cheap and surely there are more pressing items to be resolved!!!

….was that we learn something everyday. There is a pub in Liverpool called Ye Cracke – very well-known, very traditional, and local of one J Lennon when he was at art school round the corner (there’s a plaque in the pub mentioning J Lennon and some friends had seen an author read and retired to the pub and created a manifesto, the author being the ‘Paperback Writer’ of the future song). Anyway, I digress.

The ‘Y’ in ‘Ye’ there is an Anglo-Saxon letter – ‘th’ or ‘thorn’ – and so the Ye is actually The. So the pub is The Cracke. There are many pubs called Ye…..something or other, and they should be pronounced The……something. Never knew that.

Ye Old Mitre in Ely Place, City of London is one. Ely Place was owned by the See of Ely and until the 1960s this pub was licenced by Cambridgeshire Magistrates, not City of London. I love trivia like this.

Yup. 'Ye' was a scribe's shorthand for 'the'. Easier to write in the ornate scrip[t they used then.
Thomo, not daft at all. All part of the ongoing search for understanding evolution. The fossil record suggests that Penguins originally walked on all fours but appear to have altered their posture when they first started swimming for a living.
Just caught THIS on the BBC news channel. There is little doubt that the official attitude to anything to do with sex, even legal porn, is now verboten on government computers.... Three judges sacked and one resigns. If this is applied lower down the ranks there could be some job-shedding!

The Northern Lights attracted my attention last night, or rather trying to see them without success for a couple of hours...

Local photographer Aiden Wellock did manage some pictures of the phenomenon though.

Aiden Wellock's selfie with the Aurora Borealis.

He took this one on the moors above Embsay, choosing that location to get above the mist and away from light pollution.

What grabbed my attention was the partial eclipse. We thought we would miss it due to the usual misty morning of the Somerset levels - but it proved an advantage as the mist filtered out the brightness and we were able to watch the eclipse progress and take photos too. I've put a collage of 8 photos on the Spring 2015 topic:

I had a bit of an adventure today.... Causing alarm and consternation all round, including myself!
At about 06:39 this morning I started to feel very cold, I started shaking violently and got a definite impression that all was not well. I set of with Jack to tyhe butcher's and managed to get down there. It felt just like a Brucellosis storm or flu but I haven't been bothered by that for years.
While I was standing in the shop waiting to be served I blacked out and slid gracefully down the wall. I came to with Kathy ringing the ambulance and three kind lads getting me into a chair. I knew that all I wanted to do was get my meat and get home again so I told Kathy to tell the ambulance yo look out for a bloke with a black dog walking up towards the town.
I got home just before the skitters hit me. Managed to get upstairs and emptied, brewed a pot of tea and got into the warm in the front room and watched the eclipse. Then I went to bed and slept for almost 4 hours.
I think I am feeling better, I've just had a meat pie, must keep eating!

BP is 110/60 and heart rate 100... I'll keep an eye on it. Haven't the faintest idea what caused it.... Will take Jack out for a short walk....
