Anyway...we did...and I made it back UP the same stairwell on the way back as well.
Sometimes you just have to suck it up and DO it. :laugh5:

I love the way he challenges me sometimes....
I don’t do lifts, I even used to walk up to the 12 th floor when I was a student. I dislike lifts slightly less than I dislike porridge :laugh5:

Part of my essential charm.... I do not need two sticks and will watch out for my shoulder. You could say the same thing about me having to move the bed manually on the milling machine in the shed. That used to be bad for my shoulder but it seems to have developed the right muscles.
When you walk you transfer the weight directly through the knee to the hip joint which is designed by evolution to take that stress and weight. Alternate legs balances the wear on each hip and the stresses through the spine. 4 legged animals that land feet first have a specially mobile shoulder joint to prevent a break when they put the weight through the joint. We do not.

In using your stick as a means of holding your weight when walking, (and don’t say you don’t Stanley :laugh5: because if you don’t , you don’t need it. ) then you are exerting the force through your stick ( acting like the leg) to the shoulder and not your hip, by using only one stick there is no stress distribution with each step.

Our shoulder joints are not designed to take this stress, so to balance it you use two sticks. Now I admit that the small amount you walk then the damage will be reduced but over time it can have an effect. My friend Wendy eventually resorted to two sticks, the shoulder problem eased and she found it much easier to walk. My friend Mike, did not listen to me and he ended up with physio for a damaged shoulder. The problem is made worse with stick(s) that are incorrect length.

What is wrong with two sticks ?

Just to put my tuppence in here, have you had a diagnosis from a doctor on your knee? I only ask as there may be other options.

All this advice. Thank You All :biggrin2: . I have not been to the doctor Kev an d don't intend to. My shoulder doesn't hurt and I am as happy as a pig in a midden. That's the recipe for a long and happy life....
Today's tip, listen to advice but only let it alter your actions when it is obvious your own remedies aren't working.
And before you all pile in, think back, that's exactly what you do in similar circumstances.

You know the entire history?

Wasn’t that long ago you “had the strength of ten men, because you were pure”....
What I am saying now is that, in your 80s, after a hard life...a thimble full of Johnny Walker won’t do you any harm. And no one would begrudge you it. :good:

You've misunderstood that quotation Maz. It refers to moral strength in modern usage, not physical and comes from a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson, 'Sir Galahad'.

Fair enough. I’m just saying that having to resort to some pain relief, temporarily, in any form, should not be seen as weakness.
( I could not have survived without Opiates when they were temporarily prescribed). I am sure many would agree with me. No lasting dependence on them. They did their job and were gone, with no problems. That is modern medicine these days. :good:

Ok...my mistake... ( thought you had knee pain 🤔)
I must have got the wrong end of the stick, as they say in Oz.
Confusing times. :biggrin2:

Yes. I don't have pain that demands pain killers when I use my stick, even though I am told I am holding it in the wrong hand.
Today's tip. Be prepared for a shortage of garden furniture due to the blockage of the Suez Canal. (I'm not kidding! :biggrin2: Warning issued by importers this morning.)
How on earth can the UK withstand this deprivation?

🤔 we have enough garden furniture. There was way to much of it left by previous owners when we moved in 7 years ago. Well sorted with placing stuff out the front with a “FREE” sign on. Gone in sixty seconds, as they say...probably resold at markets...but who cares!

Called at B&Q the other day for some paint, Mrs P said lets look for a couple of garden chairs, Result.. ' I'm not paying that price, anyone who calls will have to bring their own or sit on those two plastic ones we have'. And I thought I was tight careful. :laugh5:

We currently want to part with our billiard table. Don’t want any money for it. If any youth club or pub can get it out of the house, they are welcome to it. I love giving things away. ( mind you, we are told it took a crane to get it in here). I couldn’t care less...it is a freebie to anyone who wants it.
I will throw in all billiard cues, a scoreboard AND chalk...I do not want a red cent.

I wish I lived near you!

We play pool 2 or 3 times a week, mainly because it is a 2 miles round trip walk and my wife knows I won't refuse to go. She is a better player than me but I'm luckier, so we end up about even. I played the self-declared "Haicheng Number One" last week. He is a loud mouth local from a small village called Haicheng. I won 2 games to 1 so that quietened him for a while and he hasn't challenged me since then. About a year ago, I played on the best pool table in Haicheng and it was so unlevel you couldn't hit a ball to go in a straight line.

Your Council Tax account carries the day you moved in. I finally accessed my account yesterday and found Janet was right all along. I thought it was 2000 she said July 1994. She was right, 27 years almost. It's the longest time I have ever been in one house.

Today's tip is to take advantage of the current weather which, though cold, is ideal for walking. Better weather is coming but we may have to endure a tail end of winter weather this weekend.

Today's tip is that if you have any tender plants outside, cover them for a couple of days, we shall have some sharp frosts.

Sharper than I thought! This morning with wind chill we could have -7C. That will not suit tender plants outside.
