The clocks in the clock tower are back up and running (for now, at any rate).
There's a problem with the electric supply, which is tripping out. Lights aren't working, but the leccies hope to sort that out as well.
Fingers crossed that time doesn't grind to a halt overnight...

nice photos of both Stanley and David on previous page, and I envy the load of horse manure.
Hope the clock keeps going. (Downright handy that there are 12 letters in Barnoldswick eh? one for each hour of the clock...)

I agree Liz, and I am so well supported. Daughter Susan is on call for next Tuesday's trip to the eye surgeon at Burnley and looking after Jack for a week next year when I am to teach my American students again. Carleton College have asked Martha and I to do it for our swan song!
It's lovely stuff Maz and I am hoeing it in. My problem is I am itching to plant something now!

A very large energy bill due mainly to the fact that the Gas Board computer hasn't been taking enough off me by direct debit.
A catastrophic failure of my TV set.
Ah well, these things happen every now and again. The secret is to suck it up, throw part of the burial fund at it and get on with life!
See this for the Hatton Gardens deposit box raid (
LINK) Latest news this morning is that the alarm went off but was not responded to by the police..... Oh Dear!

I have a regular argument, with NPower, regarding my DD for gas. At the end of every summer they want to reduce it and at the end of winter they want to put it up. Their computer system can only calculate 6 months at a time...
Harry Garlick have been offering deals on TVs recently. If you want really cheap, Sainsbury are selling Blaupunkt TVs.

A steam traction engine going up the lane outside our house this morning - one of the few benefits of having all the main road traffic redirected past us for 3 months while they continue the flood defence works. Fortunately it was a relatively lightweight beast, otherwise it might have destroyed the thin tarmac (and our newly filled pothole)!

Thanks Kev but the TV problem is in the solved box. Did you get a picture Tiz? I shall enjoy F! on my computer screen later, not deprived at all. Splendid quality!

No picture of the engine, Stanley. It was going at a fair lick and had disappeared up the road before we could do anything. We weren't in the house at the time and didn't have a camera to hand. Which is ironic because after all that deliberation weeks ago I've just bought a Samsung phone with a 3MP camera for £39 from Tesco...and it was sitting in the house when the big beast went by!

The fact that my appointment at the Eye Clinic at Burnley is today at 14:00. My hope is that they agree to laser clean my left implant and restore sight in that eye. We'll see what they say. (Must scrub up and put the expensive Harris Tweed Suit on....)

The good news that Mr David, the eye surgeon who repaired my retina says that the left Implant only needs a laser clean and fighter pilot vision will be immediately restored in that eye! He said that it takes a while for the brain to get over processing the flashing bright light from the laser but this is only a matter of hours. I am booked in for July 24th at Burnley. Yippee!!
He was impressed by my 2,000 acres in Norfolk suit......
I was struck by a 'fact' I heard yesterday as part of a critique on the state of our armed forces. In the Iraq Incursion we sent 140 front line aircraft, in the current operations in Iraq and Syria we have sent 8, half the current active Royal Air Force... Can this be true?

Probably on of the reasons the Russians have been encroaching on UK airspace...

With regard to fighter aircraft: Hansard (15th Dec 2014), Philip Dunne (September 2012, appointed Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology with responsibility for Defence procurement and Defence exports).
Number in `Forward Fleet' followed by `Depth Fleet' in brackets:
Typhoon 85 (32)
Tornado GR4 72 (30)
Forward Fleet comprises aircraft which are serviceable and those which are short-term unserviceable.
Depth Fleet comprises aircraft which are undergoing planned depth maintenance, upgrade programmes and fleet management temporary storage.
LINK
The Fleet Air Arm is virtually without aircraft, having withdrawn the Harriers and because of the problems with the replacement, the US Lightning 2.
RAF fighters are also patrolling the East European borders with Russia, as well as the North Atlantic and North Sea, in all areas they are being challenged by Russian military aircraft. Add to that mix the fact that Argentina is getting belligerent again due to British companies finding oil reserves off the Falklands and our intentions to exploit them.

And all are affected by the reliance on accountancy partnerships 'advising' on the best ways to procure replacements. See Private Eye this week for some shocking facts on that subject..... For instance, thanks to them we now have in-flight refuelling tankers that can't operate in striking distance of enemy air space. (Don't ask me why, I don't know!)
Glasgow police have found human remains on a farm at Milngavie and suspect it is the missing Irish nurse....
See
THIS for the disturbing news that even though the police have a case against 86 year old Lord Janner and have sent it forward to the CPS, the expectation is that he will not be proceeded against, not because of weakness in the evidence but because 'it would not be in the public interest'. This will not go down well with the public and especially the 30 witnesses who came forward to give their evidence against the Noble Lord.... Is his position protecting him? Would the same decision have been made if he had been a poor pensioner living on a 'sink' estate? It bothers me.....

As I surmised yesterday, there has been a howl of protest about Janner, supported by the Chief Constable of Leicestershire. The CPS have admitted that 'mistakes' were made in 2002 when there was enough evidence for a case. I personally have no doubt about the establishment networks that have the power to close ranks and protect the privilege system from damage. Take the example of Cyril Smith.... In the long run this is a cancer in our systems of governance and it's hard to see how the consequences can be avoided.
A lid has been clapped on so many outstanding matters, think Chilcot and CSA, for the duration of the election campaign.... Expect a flood after May 7th.

Reports of plaice arresting terrorist suspects in Melbourne (

The name 'Isis' has been dropped from the names given to hurricanes and replaced by Yvette. Are we getting a tad too sensitive?
This
REPORT caught my attention this morning. Over a million people relying on food banks. How does this square with the 'economic miracle'?

Bumping into an old mate Malcolm Ball on the town square yesterday. Not seen him for over 40 years after he left the town to join the Army. We were at Gisburn Road school together in the 50's and used to be mates through our teens. I was nice to catch up with him and have a bit of a natter. He lives just down the road in Cheshire now but often calls back to see his dad who he was with at Victoria's Tea Rooms yesterday, enjoying the stuff going on in town.

Nice find Bodge. It's a practical machine as well, makes drilling, though slow, a one man operation. I wonder if Dog has seen it?
The loss of probably 650 souls in the migrant boat capsize. A worse record that the slave ships. I heard a comment last night that if this was a cruise ship there would be immediate action. I was disgusted by politician's response to direct questions about the cutting back of the 'Mare Nostrum' initiative which incidentally we supported. A big mistake. These lives are just as valuable as well-heeled tourists. The number of dead since the rescue fleet was reduced has soared exponentially, and those are just the ones we know about.
08:00. It gets worse. a survivor has told the Italian police that there were about 950 men women and children on the boat, most locked into the hold. Less than 30 have been rescued...

The United Nations refugee organisation now says it believes 800 souls perished in the capsized fishing boat. Many, including unaccompanied children locked in the lower two levels. Two people have been arrested, The captain and one crew member and will be charged with trafficking and possibly reckless endangerment of life....
