Currently at the cinema in Burnley to watch the Elvis film with P.

Very good film, Tom Hanks played an excellent Colonel Parker.

Labour Party Jacobs Join social and games night. Very well attended and lots of stuff to graze on, lots of nice home made stuff. I won a Blue-tooth speaker in the raffle, On the games side, no one managed to solve my wooden sphere puzzle without assistance and I learnt a new card game. Raised a bob or two for party funds, enough to cover the production of an odd leaflet or two. :extrawink:

Good stuff Ian....
I've just remembered.... re. Nelson as Little Moscow. Stan Iveson once told me that the Council were attacked by the Tory Press for financing soup kitchens for the unemployed. The Labour mayor responded that they were paid for out of the Mayor's hospitality budget and it was up to him who he invited.... :biggrin2:

Skipton for some shopping using our bus passes. We went outward on the Whiz which I would say is a bit of a misnomer. More of a plodder if you will. It stops a couple of times on the way out of Barlick and once in Thornton. This is the direct bus route, male driver.

Did our shopping then came back to find we had just missed the same service back and would have to wait an hour for the next one. Went onto my First Bus app that I have on my phone, 280 service was in the next 5 minutes so we got that one back. This had a female driver and although the route back was through Earby, Kelbrook and then up to Barlick we were back before the Whiz had set off from Skipton! A more progressive driver I would say, more stops, longer route and less time for the journey.

Funny how we are different in our expectations. I never think about the speed of the bus, it's just a ride and the duration is what it is. Susan has taught me to enjoy the bus and my wonderful bus pass.

Not an expectation Stanley just an observation. The shortest route isn't always the fastest and buses with Whiz on them can be deceiving. We too love our bus passes and may use them to keep warm in winter. A nice run out to Leeds or Manchester for a light lunch and a brew. :extrawink:

When we visited Prague a few years ago we picked up a tip for usage of their fully integrated transport system, a legacy of the Russian occupation. The tram service has a City circular that can serve as a rain shelter. Hop on it anywhere if the weather turns bad, settle down to a city tour that last about an hour. Get off when its fine.

Ten Pin Bowling at the Matrix in Skipton. Two frames, I was leading in the first until the next to last round when Sally crept ahead, then Ruby on her last bowl just took the frame by one point. Second frame we were all more or less level pegging but I crept ahead on my last round to take the frame. All good fun but my shoulder is aching and my fingers are a bit stiff on my right hand. I can't take a run up now so can't get enough welly behind my bowls.

I think I heard there was a lockage ban on the L&L due to low water.

I didn't think the Foulridge res's fed the canal they mainly to top up the stream to stop it becoming too polluted.

Fay Oldland's Story of Foulridge has them as compensation reservoirs for the canal.

Not sure that still applies today. Here is an old map that shows some of the original canal reservoirs Foulridge. it needs a bit of studying against todays maps before drawing any comparisons. Very interesting.

Firefox won't download that map, says it is a potential security risk.

Its one of those PDF maps that lets you magnify to get close detail. Posted 2014 it does come up 'Not Secure' on Windows.
The screen shot below gives some idea what it looks like. Note! rotated to get best coverage. The red area was the intended supply reservoir before the tunnel was contemplated. Must try to follow it up sometime.

That's nice - I've done a quick screenshot of the last pictureand text.

A bit of provenance, whch perhaps someone will come across one day, and smile.

Hope so. . . .

Scarborough was proper rammed today. Had to park best part of a mile out of town on the North Cliff. Did my 10,000 steps getting from the car and back. Sea gulls were a menace. Back to the relative calm of Filey tomorrow for our last day. Planning Harry's American Diner for tea so no washing up. :extrawink:
