I came across this piece of spoofery the other day on FB, poignant but amusing:-
A Royal Naval patrol vessel was going about its lawful occasions in the English Channel, the coast of Kent appeared on the port side. The lookout called in "objects in the water at two miles on the port bow" the vessel turned to investigate. What they found was at first of great concern, this quickly turned to amazement when they came up with three crowded open boats, not heading for Kent but away from it, and they were packed with British Pensioners who's intentions were to get to Calais, register as asylum seekers bound for England, and on their arrival back here be better off than they were before.

Haha! Where can I get tickets for the next trip? Since the finish of the Ashes there's been quite a bit of joking about Aussie cricketers seeking asylum here because they daren't go back home.

A study in the US that concluded that more seniors are dying from alcohol and drug abuse than ever before. The triggers seem to be boredom, loneliness caused by loss of contact with family and general depression caused by old age.
It all seems so sad and avoidable and reminded me of my own precepts regarding having interests, keeping contact with family and friends and taking an in interest in what's going on around you. That led me on to reflecting that Oneguy is quite possibly good for you!
A news item in the Times that I can't find is an article by a columnist who says that the farmers are whingeing and should combine into super farms. This man is a dick and should be subjected to the same market pressures!

Judging from today's news, the Environment Agency bosses will have to eat their hats and admit they were wrong - they should never have stopped dredging the rivers. And it's their own report that says so!

Stanley, your comment re seniors in U.S. Dying from alcohol and drug use could also reflect on their health care system. If you can't afford health care, and you are in pain, your only affordable relief comes from alcohol and over-the-counter-pain relief OR whatever you CAN afford.

Not into chocolate, Tiz...though I always take some chocolate biscuits or some sort of chocolate snack to Cazza's if I visit for coffee...( cos the poor love is addicted to it

and as her sister I like to supply her needs).
If I was to be tempted by chocolate, it would be the Rum and Raisin Chocolate, which is not a "morning tea" flavour...and I rarely bother.
Cazza and I both gave up the fags some two and a half years ago ( all done and dusted but still sadly missed as we both enjoyed smoking), eeeee, but don't ask Cazza to give up her Chocolate. Death to those that would!

I woke this morning to BBC Radio Four, mercilessly plugging women's cricket. It 's been on R4 longwave all day long, as if it's as important as the Ashes series. During one interview it was said that a women's team had started a girls 'colts ' team. Don't they know that a girl colt is a filly?

I have to be at Butts Clinic at 09:10 this morning for retinoscopy.... I only have one eye appointment to go after that!
My new neighbour, Beverly, has moved in next door at No. 12. She is 'camping out' at the moment as her brother John hasn't finished the refurb yet but she has decided that if she moves in it will spur him on. Nice thing was that she apologised for all the noise over the last few months but I told her not to worry about it, I wouldn't be Mr Angry!

These four tyres dumped at the top of the back street. I went on to the council web site to report it and found I had to fill in a four page form.... Forget it, that's as bad as littering the streets!
The explosion in China. (
LINK) The death toll is rising and this is no surprise given the scale of the event. How many potentially similar situations are there in the UK?

I'm happy to report that the old tyres disappeared yesterday! Was someone watching OG?
See
THIS very comprehensive report and videos of the explosion. It's obvious that it was massive and is still ongoing. There are reports that very toxic chemicals were stored on the site and the worry now is that these have been released by the explosions. Much worse than was thought at first and quite possible that the death toll will continue to rise.
Later.... I need Tiz to look at shed matters where I have just been making a lousy job of cutting glass tubing.... I haven't posted it just yet but if he could cast his eye over it when it is up and give me any advice he can....

The explosion in China will have very long lasting effects on the local people due to the carcinogenic chemicals released.

Oh, and guess what? Down here, trains into the West Country are again stopped, this time by a landslip at Dawlish (where the line was closed for months by bad weather). Third weekend on the run that there have been stoppages and long delays. The good folk of Devon and Cornwall will be getting more agitated than the Scots about independence at this rate!

Under Australian Law, anyone under the age of 18 years cannot buy a knife...even from a supermarket.
I'm not sure if barcodes got muddled up, but I bought a pastry brush yesterday, and it flagged at the register that it was a knife and I was asked if I was over 18. (Young lass knew as soon as she asked that it was a stupid question).
My pastry brush was deemed a dangerous weapon!
We had a good laugh about it...
Is the law the same in England? Minors unable to buy any kind of knife?

Given the age of some of the service pipes which are a major cause of sink holes, it's a wonder there aren't more. As for the coastal line, don't worry Tiz, Cameron will shortly proclaim a 'Western Powerhouse' and promise a new main line....
I don't know the answer to that question Maz.... But then I looked it up and found

When I arranged my fibre broadband online the other day I got confused with the plethora of offers and inadvertently signed up to a £5 a month service I hadn't meant to buy so I rang them. I ended up getting very angry with the woman on the other end who told me that she wasn't speaking too fast (she was) and kept trying to sell me additional services. It took about 15 minutes to get rid of her (free call thank god) but I can't get a credit for the £5 I have been charged this month.... I got the offending £5 charge removed though. I hate having to deal with these companies.... All they want you to do is spend money on additional 'services'.....

The fact that I started feeling a bit delicate yesterday afternoon. Couldn't get warm and shivering, full of small niggling aches. Feels like a mild version of the gastric flu I had in April so I'm going to look after myself, plain food and not much of it and perhaps a lot of time in bed between dog walks.... So if I vanish for a while be sure I'm looking after myself.....
I did BP reading at 05;30, 131/77 and pulse of 85, a touch on the high side bur I did it again an hour later after my walk and it's a normal 116/69. Gentle exercise is good for you!

Take it easy, Stanley.
Not sure if it made it over your way, but one couple ( I think they lived in Sydney?) woke in the night aware that there was more than just them in their bed. Turns out a drunk/drugged Irishman climbed in through a window they had left open for their cat, stripped naked and climbed into their bed where he promptly fell asleep. ( he was arrested at the property). Wonder what he thought he was doing?!
You would be pretty cross about it, but I think the fact it was an Irishman would diffuse the situation somewhat...they can be scallywags...and I do love the accent. A Scotsman would be a different kettle of fish.

Felling much better this morning, whatever it was that attacked me succumbed to 14 hours sleep and minimal food.... I think I'm back on track but will be careful....

It's a possibility Tiz and I hadn't thought of it! My hearing must be going as well because I often have to ask people to slow down and repeat what they said....
Phone call this morning, my new varifocus glasses are here, picked them up, crystal clear so I shall not wear them in the shed around the grinding dust!
