TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
We’ve been for a walk, when the sun was out it was lovely, but when it went in it was cold. Not good for June.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I'm glad you posted that Gloria, I thought it was just me as I sat in the partial shade of the trees on my bench yesterday.
Yesterday was an afternoon when the overcast won the day, we had no late sun. At 20:00 we had heavy overcast. This morning first thing it was calm, cool and almost clear. Since then it has become overcast. The glass has fallen to 2020mb and the forecast is for an overcast day with possible light rain early in the morning. The constant west wind is light and we can expect a high of 15C, a low of 12C tonight and as much as -3C wind chill when the wind is strongest around Midday. The outlook is not summery, tomorrow will be wet and windy and the whole week is cooler. Definitely not Flaming June!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It was uncomfortable cold Stanley.
Yesterday was better in parts, got my washing dried, this morning is clouded over, no sunning, so going to be cool again.

Gloria, we were promised a shower about now, instead of that we have weak sun breaking through the overcast.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
A few days ago I thought of posting an ironic / sarcastic thing along the lines of "it can't be long now before we are told that May 2024 has been the warmest since records began". I dismissed the idea as just not funny - adjusted the 'snuggie' and put the electric blanket back on the bed.
Guess what - it has just been announced. . . .
The UK had its warmest May and spring since records dating back to 1884 began, provisional Met Office figures show. While it was a wet and dull season for many, the Met Office said May's average mean temperature of 13.1C (55.58F) for the UK beat 2008's previous record figure of 12.1C.
A Met Office spokesperson said: "While it may not have felt like it for many, with sunshine in relatively short supply, provisional figures show May was the warmest on record in our series back to 1884. "This warmth was especially influenced by high overnight temperatures, with the average UK minimum temperature for May 1.2C higher than the previous record.
Victor Meldrew had it right - I don't believe it.

That takes even more believing 500 ft up in the Pennines David.....
Yesterday afternoon was overcast and at one point we had a suggestion of a shower. At 20:00 it was breezy and overcast but dry. This morning it is the same. The glass is down on 1011mb and falling, the forecast is for rain all day but with sunny spells this afternoon. The westerly winds are going to be brisk and gusts of almost 35mph can be expected. They give us a high of 13C and a low of 6C tonight with a wind chill of -3C all day. The outlook is for this cool showery weather to persist all week. Deep Joy!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
There was a lull in the rain just before 10:00 so I went to do my shopping at the Co-op. Nicely timed, it started raining just after I had got back.... Since then I don't think it has stopped for more than five minutes.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon improved to become dry and sunny. At 20:00 we had late evening sun. This morning it's calm and clear and the heating is on. The glass has risen slightly to just below 1007mb and the forecast is for showers and sunny spells but it's dry so far. Today's west winds will be brisk and gust to almost 35mph giving a high of 11C and a l,ow of 7C with as much as a -4C wind chill this afternoon. The outlook is for more of the same all week.
Later at 06:00 we are still dry! No sign of the forecast rain. And there are reports of snow on high ground in northern Scotland.

We have sunning and bits of cloud dotted about. The en-suite radiator, which is set on frost at the moment, had kicked in first thing this morning, none of the others in the house had.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It's stopped raining now in Barlick and the heating is off but only because the house is warm after the spell of heating earlier this morning. Even the Met Office admits it's cold for June.... Remember it's snowed in Scotland!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was much drier than was forecast, there was a nasty hail shower at 10:30 and some light rain after that but the afternoon was mainly sunny and dry and we had late sun at 20:00 when I went to bed. First thing this morning it was overcast but dry and just starting to spot with rain. We now have light rain and the CH has come on. The glass has risen to 1010mb and the forecast is for heavy rain until 07:00 and then sunny spells with occasional showers for the rest of the day. The westerly winds will be moderate and give us a high of 12C and a low of 8C tonight with a wind chill of up to -3C so it will never feel better than single figures out there. The outlook remains the same as today, cool, sunny spells and showers. Deep Joy!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was better then the forecast again. The afternoon was dry and sunny but clouded over later. At 20:00 we had a little late sun coming in from the west under the overcast but not much. This morning we have a light breeze and it's overcast but dry. The glass has risen to 1014mb and the forecast is for an overcast but mainly dry day. The constant WSW wind is moderate and gusts to 35mph giving a high of 12C and a low tonight of 9C with a -4C wind chill at times this afternoon. Once again the effect is that it will feel like single figures all day. The outlook is for similar weather for the next six days. The CH has come on......

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Good to see that the word 'sunning' has gained regular use on the site, in the sense of the child like observation that that If you can have raining - you can have sunning.
Slight problem though - I thought it was new (nelogism?) but I've heard it before - though in a different context.
"While I was at home freezing they were in Spain 'sunning' themselves. "
Still like it. . .

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon was bright and sunny but that wind definitely had a -4C chill as promised in the forecast. By 20:00 it was heavily overcast and raining. This morning it was calm and overcast but not raining, just damp flags from the showers earlier in the night. The glass is down on 1008mb and falling. The forecast is for sunny intervals with 'heavy' showers. The constant WNW wind is brisk and gusts over 30mph can be expected. This gives a high of 13C and a low of 8C with a wind chill of -3C all day. The effect is that once again it will feel like single figure temperatures all day. Wrap up warm! The outlook is for more of the same but cooler! A long way from flaming June.

Lovely bright day for us today.
Our deciduous trees have dropped 99% of their leaves, it’s nice to see the shapes of their bare branches.
We have Autumn colours coming, our Nandina Domestica’s are wearing their burnt red leaves. Beautiful.
.
Hope you all get some sunshine

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon was a re-run of Friday, a bright sunny afternoon but with a savage wind chill and then heavy overcast until just before 20:00 when we got the treat of late sun coming in under the cloud. First thing this morning we had a light breeze, broken overcast and it was dry. Since then the overcast has become heavier and we now have spots of rain on the wind. The glass is steady on 1008mb and the forecast is for bright overcast with showers. The constant west wind is moderate and gives us a high of 11C, a low of 7C and a wind chill that once more will reach -4C at times taking us well down into single figure temperatures. The outlook is for the same weather for the rest of the week. Sorry Kids! There is a hint that it will start to warm up after this week.
Morning Cathy, I've just seen your post. Don't complain too much you are still warmer than us because we are having some unseasonably cold weather.
Later at 05:00. Surprise, surprise! The heating has kicked in.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon descended into heavy overcast and cold rain and only recovered briefly at 20:00 when we had a small flash of late sun under the overcast. This morning it's cool, overcast and dry. The glass is up on 1014mb and the forecast is just one word:- 'Cloudy'. The NW wind will be constant and light giving us a 'high' of 12C and a low of 7C tonight with a wind chill of -2C. The outlook is for an equally cold day tomorrow and then similar weather but with the temperatures slowly improving as the week goes on.
