Not really used here Stanley as they were only any any good for local VHF reception where there was a very local TV transmitter. Much more prevalent over in the USA. Here in the UK for terrestrial TV we had a much more organised system of main high power transmitters and smaller local relays working from them that covered most of the UK on UHF. You were on a hiding to nothing before that with VHF coverage which still required roof mounted arrays, in most cases more than one if you wanted ITV as well as BBC. Band 1 Ch2 for the BBC (a large crossed single element dipole) and a separate channel 9/12 antenna (usually 2x bayed short Yagi arrays) for ITV. All changed with the advent of UHF, everything went onto multi element, (and variations of) Yagi design aerials. All change again with the advent of satellite TV, one dish antenna which got considerably smaller as the technology developed.
