I thought I'd update you. I decided to give my arm a really good rubbing with old fashioned embrocation and shave my head. I feel a lot better with the hair off and my arm is much better. Old fashioned white embrocation is wonderful stuff, lots more mobility in it now. But I'm not going to get carried away.... an easy day for the lad. I'm reading the book about Welbury Holgate the Earby confectioner who excavated Hare Hill. It arrived yesterday,

I'm sorry to hear that Stanley and Richard have both suffered injuries - Richard came of worst but then he was up on a roof! Get well soon, both of you. (Richard, you must stop doing that "Look at me, I'm Superman and I can fly" act, you know it only ends in tears!)

Add my best wishes to both of you after your falls. there but for the grace. . .

What caught my attention - the amazing lengths to which people will go, to avoid paying 6p for a plastic bag (for life), at ASDA today. Arms full of shopping - most of it wrapped in plastic.

Stanley wrote:It seems stupid to me. Traditionally the cuts came with the Boxing Day and other post Xmas sales when prices were reduced to shift surplus stock. The general opinion is that price-cutting like Black Friday to grab market share is going to kill the value of the old post Xmas sales.
Justice Goddard's first statement about progress with the enquiry into CSA. She seems to be keeping a low profile and getting on with the job. I get the feeling she is a competent person and a lot of people will be getting quite worried.... Good!
The 'Black Friday' Day / Weekend / Week is a way of shifting out the new products that were released earlier in the year at inflated prices, reductions just bring it down to a more normal price, apart from some retailers/manufactures looking to clear excess stocks , often of stuff that didn't sell in expected quantities last year, on-line offers of 'free delivery' if one spends x amount are also ways of tempting in buyers. The January sales meant that 'last season' stuff could be sold off for space ( mostly in sizes too small/too large for anyone to wear, tech stuff that is no longer the current model / has a compromise specification to build to a price/ is Christmas related so time dated) , or was the 'Special Purchase' of manufacturers 'seconds' -pulled thread on the nighty, a mild misprint on a dress, wobbles on painted plates and so on. Often bought, but strangely in many households never used.

Wendy, I read it yesterday. Apart from being an eye-opener about the Holgate family it confirms my long held theory that within the confines of their technology and knowledge, Neolithic and EBA people were a lot smarter than we have previously given them credit for. You'll enjoy it I think. Keith has done a good job.
Thanks to you all for your concern, I was lucky I hit a flat surface.... As for the peripheral effects, arm is getting better and I had a good night last night, six hours sleep.

Fast asleep on Friday night / Saturday morning when the house alarm went off at 3am. Frightened the life out of us. Dennis got up and went out with the flashlight but couldn't see anything. The next morning it was very obvious what had happened. Someone had wrenched one of the shed roller doors off it's tracks and pulled it outwards. When they rolled under the door, to see what they could pinch, the alarm went off. They took off without taking anything (their ears were probably bleeding by this stage).

We were the lucky ones. 6 houses in all were burgled; next door lost his work van with all his tools, one across the road lost a mig welder and a lot of other tools. All houses or sheds sustained some damage.

A bit creepy to think it can happen without you knowing.

Unfortunately the houses with security cameras were left alone so they obviously did their homework. Surprisingly ours was the only one with an alarm on the shed. Apparently there were 2 bikies outside our gate during the week so they were obviously checking the places out. The houses are all on between 1 and 6 acres so not all the houses are visible from the street. They obviously couldn't see our alarm from the street or I'm guessing they would have left us alone. The neighbours with 2 very sturdy dogs were left alone.

Sorry to hear about that Liz. It's not so much the monetary loss as the violation of your security...
I know how that feels. I once went into the workshop at Hey Farm and found I had been visited by someone who had wrecked the place. I felt sick.... Then I realised that it wasn't an intruder but a set of shelves on the wall I had been adding to for years, it had just fallen off the wall scattering stuff all over the floor. Even so, I remember that feeling of violation.

Can't have too many posts from you Liz.....
Sat here doing the site and heard an intermittent beep. Battery low in smoke alarm at the top of the stairs. Went up, got the ladder out, removed the battery and put it where it would remind me to get another, it's a 9volt one so I had no spare. On the way downstairs it beeped again. That's right, it was the CO2 alarm in the front room! Put three new batteries in that and I'll get a new one for the smoke alarm anyway.....
